  1. This was bound to happen. There are millions of customers who do not recharge for months but enjoy incoming facility and telcos are burden with maintaining service to them without single paisa coming in. Due to extremely low plans, nad eroded margins, they can't afford such connections.

The problem will be for those in lower income groups as only one connection is generaly used for outgoing and rest for incoming. It will be hard for them to maintain all connections.

 :confuse: :NOTriste: :surprise: Looks like, Jio is determined to kill the total competition... :bash: Whether this will be good or bad, only time will tell. Till then we have to digest the call drops, congested network, slow speeds, NIL voice clarity, even if we are ready to pay more for quality...

Since Jio starting making money, now they are going all out and Jio is aware of the fact that network issue persist for all the operators. These prices are insane and now God bless us as service will further deteriorate.

There is a big 'Price war' in telecom sector while trying to pull more customers. As far as 'Quality of service' is concerned, it needs more money to maintain it and cannot be achieved using handful of customers with 'High pricing' but can be achieved by increasing the number of users on board and the marketing heads of Airtel, Idea & Vodafone are well aware of it. As I said before, Mukesh Ambani is here to do business & not charity but by its liberal pricing policy has been successful in achieving targets (increasing its subscribers) in a very short period of time as compared to other operators in India.

But the problem now is, there is NO such quality operator due to race for cheap tariff and UnLimited calls. Clarity of Voice calls in Airtel Network used to be great even in 2G network and HD calls on DC-HSPA network was as good as Jio to Jio HD calls during launch days. But now?? Forget call clarity, it is like a boon to complete a 3 minute voice call without interruptions / cracking sound / call drops, in any network --- all thanks to Unlimited calls.

We are going off topic as this thread is for Jio offers and I am also part of it.

I am not sure, how long Airtel or other service providers will be able to provide quality if they also start to engage in tariff war.

Moreover they can never compete with regarding tariffs. So they should concentrate more on quality.

This is what even I argue. They are trying to attract more customers at the cost of service and quality. They should concentrate on QOS and customers will opt for them and even at high price.

  5. Jio always said that they will be 25% cheaper than AVoId and this what now they have done. But this tariff is killing the service. In my area, Khetwadi Mumbai 4, the speed is around 100Kbps on Jio while others have little higher speed. But call quality and network availability is worst for all. Can't make or receive calls even on road and if you are inside building, then forget about using a mobile.

  6. All these operators have some sort of capping on no of minutes used and on no of unique numbers called. I don't think such capping is there on Jio. Even though it should suffice normal users, they should highlight them.

    Vodafone T&C:

    1. Customers using more than 1000 minutes (local +STD) in any period of consecutive 7 days, will be charged at 30p per minute for rest of 7 days period (eg if a customer consumes 1000 mins on 2nd day),he would be charged for rest of the five days).
    2. Customers using more than 250 minutes (local+STD) in a day will be charged at 30 p per minute (local +STD), after consumption of 300 minutes for the rest of the day till midnight 0.00 hrs.
    3. Customers calling more than 300 unique numbers in any period of seven consecutive days will be charged at 30p per minute (local+STD) after 300 unique numbers, for the rest of validity of recharge.

    Idea T&C:

    1. Customers using more than 250 outgoing minutes (local+STD as per Unlimited Pack benefits) in a day will be charged at 1p/sec (local +STD), after consumption of 250 minutes for the rest of the day till midnight 0.00 hrs.
    2. Customers using more than 1000 minutes (local +STD as per Unlimited Pack benefits) in any period of consecutive 7 days, will be charged at 1p/sec for rest of 7 days period (e.g. if a customer consumes 1000 mins on 2nd day , s/he would be charged for rest of the five days).
    3. Customers calling more than 100 unique numbers in any period of seven consecutive days will be charged at 1p/sec (local+STD) after 100 unique numbers, for the rest of validity of recharge.

I completed port out from Rcom to Jio but got zero balance (no data or voice balance) though I paid Rs.650 to the gallery fellow. Is this normal?

I called up Jio cc at 198 but they said they couldn't find any recharge in my number and that I'll have to recharge again. If so, what was that 650 for? Confused

This is generally done by agent or third parties and not from Digital stores. My friend who did it through agent paid 650 and break up is ₹ 459/- plan charge, ₹ 100/- Prime membership and ₹100/- service charge or whatever you want to consider. I ported 3 nos to JIo from Digital Xpress and they didn't charge anything while porting. They asked me to pay after numbers are ported. Visit the gallery and ask them. Did you get any receipt?

Just recently ported to Jio. For last few days, data speed has drastically reduced to 2-3 Mbps from 15-20 Mbps. Contacted Jio call centre and their standard reply was that the current speed is considered as good and they would take my feedback to erect more towers in the area !! RCom 4G speed was above 15 Mbps consistently.

Subscriber base of Jio has increased drastically without similar increase in infrastructure and that has resulted in pathetic speed. Actually we all should fight for good speed and voice calls rather than low cost.

I've also checked my 40 Mbps plan with Ookla and it barely reached 24 Mbps speed ... very disappointed now ..

Is there anyone at all who has reached the craving speed of 40 Mbps?

The speed for V-Fiber depends on distance between your premise and exchange. I had received an offer from Airtel long back. But the filed technician informed that since my office far from their exchange, I will get max. 8Mbps. While one of my friends in different area is getting aroung 40Mbps speed as he is closer to the exchange.

  10. After Idea-Vodafone, now Tata and Airtel are in talks for merger for telecom & DTH.

    Source: Economic Times (Mumbai edition)

NEW DELHI | MUMBAI: The Tata Group and Bharti Enterprises have held exploratory talks to evaluate a mega alliance involving their telecom, overseas cable and enterprise services, and direct-to-home TV businesses, several people familiar with the matter said.

Discussions between both sides have revolved around a possible merger between unlisted Tata Teleservices and Tata Sky and the listed Tata Communications with the Sunil Mittal-owned Bharti Airtel, which includes its wholly owned DTH arm, these people added.

A Tata Sons spokesperson declined to comment while the Bharti Enterprises spokesperson did not respond to ET’s emailed questionnaire.

The discussions are still at a preliminary stage and there is no certainty that this will lead to any deal.

But if the alliance does fructify, it will consolidate the Indian telecom market still further, and narrow the field down to three main players: Idea-Vodafone, Reliance Jio, and the Airtel-Tata combine.

The merger will enable Bharti Airtel, the bigger partner in the alliance, to close the gap between Idea-Vodafone both in terms of numbers of subscribers as well as revenue market share. Airtel has nearly 280 million mobile phone users in India while Tata Teleservices has around 48 million. Airtel will also get access to a ready network including 4G bandwidth in the much-sought-after 800 MHz band.

For the Tatas, the merger will provide an opportunity to fold their loss-making telecom business into a bigger company and become minority investors. The Tatas have been looking to exit the business for the last few years and in the past had also held discussions with Vodafone. The over-Rs 30,000-crore debt and its dispute with former partner NTT Docomo had, however, made any progress on this front difficult.
