  1. Indecent Sms From Net

There is two solutions to this:1st if you friend has a java based phone she can download the Kaspersy antivirus for mobile. It has antispam filter so certain numbers can be blacklisted whose sms's r directly delted. It is free as it is in Beta testing phase.I am using it.Also check out the site getjar[dot]com. If the 1st solution is not possible just ignore those messages and delete them without opening. You can also approach the service provider about the complaint rather then rediff, because every phone number has box like <mobilenumber>@serviceprovider.com eg 984512345@airtelkk.com accociated with it.They can stop sending messages forwarded to the box to the phone. I completely advise against going to the police. This may be a harrasment fo the victim, but for the police or for that matter for the court, they dont value harrasment, they will value only if there is physical harm or monetary loss. So,it will be of no use.
  2. Effective R-Connect Speeds

You will get only dialup speeds.I used to get 30Kbps average one year back. But,the point is RConnect is preety costly. Bals have rightly said that there r many other operators in bangalore with better plans. In fact I am using a AIRTEL offer plan in which I pay 1000 Rs Per month and I get 128Kbps unlimited internet with 525 Rs talktime free with 1.10 per pulse. So,effectively I pay only 475 for unlimited 128 internet. In rconnect there is a 40 Hour plan 20 night and 20 day at Rs 400.You can make out the difference in tarrifs.
  3. Airtel Broadband

All IT services of AIRTEL are manged by IBM.In fact it is a 10 year deal. AIRTEL has one of the worst web sites. The contents are hardly updated. They have all old info.I guess this is what happens when u have 10 year deal and everything is taken for granted.
  4. Laptop Discussion

Just one suggestion, dont go for Toshiba,Dell, lenovo etc, simply for the reason that they dont assemble their systems in India so the cost is much higher for the same features as they have to pay higher import duty. I came to know this from a friend in Dell. Go for Acer,Compaq because they assemble their systems in India as so they r much cheaper for the same features.
  5. Planning To Buy A Pocket Pc

Go through the specifications of the pocket pc and ensure that 802.11b/g standard is specified. If there is support for 802.11b is specified you can ask any computer dealer to get you SMC router for 802.11 b.Make sure with the dealer that you can return if it doesent work cause interoperability can be a problem. It is available in ebay for 1500 last time I checked. In fact my linksys router came with a software which did the whole job and it was very easy to use. The router has many feature for wireless security (i)MAC address filtering.(ii)WEP which uses a static key for encrypting data(iii)WPA for dynamic key encryption. So,the whole thing is pretty secure.Setting the router to allow for only the MAC address of ur pc will prevent other user connect to the network.
  6. Planning To Buy A Pocket Pc

If you are ready to spend 1800 rs you can get your house Wifi enabled. The Wifi router can be used with any connection.Actually there are two types of routers as wifi comes with 3 standards 802.11 a,b,g. a and g support data rates upto 54 Mbps,a works on 5Ghz range,b on 2.4 Ghz range.b supports 11Mbps. There are two types of routers generally available one supporting b+g and othe other only b.b+g routers are costlier around 4500 .b routers are available at approx 1500 to 1800 Rs.b routers are more than enough for india as it supports 11 Mbps. One router i can recommend is linksys or SMC.I am using linksys. As you have spent a lot of money on the pc,i advise u go for the WiFi router.
  7. Pune Plans To Be World's First 'wirefree' City

I think to go for a wirefree city with Broadband type of speeds,a combination of WiMax and Wifi has to be deployed.Cause the range of Wifi is limited so for coverage of wider areas WiMax will have to be used. But,somehow I think the effort of the Pune Corporation is misplaced. The are spending loads of money on a furustic project where as basic infracture is being ignored. The first level of broadband penetration should be along the way of reusing traditional telephone lines(POTS) for brodband through DSL.or reusing cable TV for internet.Cause those who require limited mobility in their premises can go for a WiFi router in their homes. For greater mobility the existing cellular infrastructure + WiFi Hotspots can be used.In fact as 3G networks are introduced, they will support broadband speeds. I think the whole thing of providing services and telecom infrastructure should be left to telecom operators. The city corporations should only try to meet their minimum requirement for maintainig the city which they have failed to.
  8. Suggestions are required for Gsm Mobile

6600 is available at Rs 9145 with some dealers like Vinaka Teleliks in Marathalli,Bangalore with bills. I guess in the grey it will be much cheaper and can just come within your range. I recently saw a phone Moto Razar V3i. It is now available only for Motorola employees at Rs 12k,will be out in a months time in the market. In looks it is way ahead of any phone in its class. The phone is too good: (i)It has ipod interface with itunes and all. (ii)256 external memory free (iii)Regualr bluetooth,ir,gprs, video recording (iv)1 MP camera (v)USB charger so that u can charge using laptop during travelling. (vi)Hands free and leather pouch free. (vii)the body is supersleek, the speaker is very loud. The processor is so powerfull that it can do other activities while the mp3 player is still on.
  9. Anti-virus

I am using Zonealarm Security suite for the last 6 months.Overall it is good as a security suite compared to other vendors like trend etc. Your question was whether the antivirus is good enough?.Actually Zone Alarm Security suite uses Computer Associate's Antivirus .Zone alarm does not develop its own antivirus.Just for info,CA antivirus is not popular and it is being given free for 1 year to home users by CA. My comp was infected by a vrus by the name alcan, now that was long back when the virus was not so wide spread.CA antivirus was not able to detect it,I detected the virus using Trend online antivirus scanner.I checked norton also, they had definitions for the virus, but not CA.ofcourse CA updated their definitions with alcan after 2 months!! I still use Zone larm Secutity suite cause i think it is good overall compared to other suites, but dont trust the antivirus. If you dont have memory shortage(i mean you have atleat 512MB of RAM),go for ZA firewall,AdWatch and norton antivirus.all of them are best in their respective fields.
  10. Vsnl, Tata Oppose Broadband

Just to show how big a a** h*** this tata indicomm is.They have introduce unlimited 256kbps in Bangalore at 1600 p.m and unlimited 128kbps at 900, http://www.tataindicombroadband.in/access/...el-che-ban.html whereas their competitor AIRTEL is providing the same at Rs 999 and Rs699 respectively. This defies common sense. This speak volumes about the competence of their mangement.
  11. Reliance Hacked?

There is no need to be paranoic about security.Only a few procedures should be followed. (1)Have the automatic updates on in Windows. (2)Always work with a limited user account. For installing softwares you can always use Runas command. (3)Install Zone Alarm Security Suite which includes Anti virus Anti Spyware(realtime-it will prevent spyware entering the system),it also includes a triple protection firewall. (4)Also install Ad-Watch(Realtime version of Ad-Aware) as a second line of defense. I think this is enough to surf the whole of the net. This is more than enough to prevent Script Kiddies. And,hackers have better things to do than hacking your system. Also use FireFox or Avant Browser with Java Script disabled. In Avant also disable ActiveX.
  12. Airtel Broadband

The Data plans of BSNL doesen't make much sense. For that matter the data plans( either download or time) of most of the operators with limited plans also does not make sense. In BSNL they give 1GB download at 256k for 500 Rs.For every additional MB of download a subscriber has to pay Rs 1.20 ,so it makes for every extra GB of download you have to pay 1200 Rs.So,basically they are penalising the customer for using more, whereas it should be the other way round. They are not subsidising us for broadband. So,why the hell are they charging us such exhorbitant rates for additional download?.This is a problem in areas where BSNL is in a monopoly situation where there is no alternative like AIRTEL. All the telecom companies have failed to meet the target of TRAI for spreading Braodband for this year end.It is all beacuse of these illogical Revenue models. I did not take BSNL presisely for this reason. Most of the people take Broadband for Downloading and Streaming not for simple surfing. The telecom companies other than Airtel have somehow not realised and have failed to come up with viable unlimited plans.
  13. Airtel Broadband

I also have a connection of 128kbps at 699 p.m .I get speeds of around 128kbps most of the time, sometimes more(around 18 KBps) also while using Bitorrent clients or P2P like Limewire.I had thought this to be a problem with my clients which showed inaccurate download speeds. But,the suspense was solved when I talked with a Airtel engineer. It seems they release 160kbps per user for people opting for 128k connection. This is to ensure a good quality of service. So,if your house is close to the exchange or a repeater is connected near your house, you are lucky. Regarding the BX220 it is better to use it in the Ethernet mode for other reasons also.If you use it in the ethernet mode one USB port will be free else a USB port will be engaged. This is definitely relevant for people with 2 ports.
  14. Need All Of Your Suggestion

FWP with Unlimited STD in Prepaid is still available.
  15. Credit Limit On Reliance Postpaid Subscribers

I had taken RIM 6 months back.I had paid 3400 upfront for Samsung SLIM with NewJOY499 plan.I was told in the Webworld where i purchased the connection that I will be given a credit limit of 1000 as I was not paying any deposit. I saw them filling up a credit ratings(with points for vehicle, house, creditcards etc) form similar to creditcard verification form.Later on I was called from reliance and was told that I have been given a credit limit of 2400. Initially I ran bills upto 6500 and I always paid my bills on time. But,that did not increase my Credit limit. My understanding goes that they take into account the Credit rating of the individual during the time of taking of connection(similar to how credit cards give credit limit) and the initial upfront payment made by him
