  1. I am looking out for Gingerbread for Incredible 2.

Hetal has advised me that OTA may not be available in India, and I may have to download and install. I came across this link

    http://www.androidpolice.com/2011/07/13/download-exclusive-official-htc-droid-incredible-2-gingerbread-ruu-2-18-605-4-same-as-the-official-gingerbread-ota/

Has anyone tried it? dkaile thinks it should be Ok. Also, androidpolice - how are they?

Also, I have never used to RUU route so can someone elaborate on it.

  2. It is pretty simple to do it directly on their site https://incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in/portal/index.do

    1. Register your PAN. You need the PAN number and date of birth for it, if not already done.

    2. Login at the site with PAN and password.

    3. Select and download the correct form. For salaried it will mostly be ITR1. The form will be an Excel spread sheet.

    4. Make sure you have all the data with you.

    5. Login and check your Form 26A. You access it through My Account > View Tax Credit. If there is a discrepancy them watch out. They will only allow what is on the form. Save the form and log out.

    6. Hopefully sec 5 will throw up no discrepancy.

    7. Open the spreadsheet enabling macros.

    8. Now fill up the form.

    9. You can Validate to check each page.

    10. Now 'Calculate Tax'. The last page will show up the refund or payment if any is due. If payment is due clear it up. You should be on Zero or refund.

    11. Assuming everything is fine. You can print out the pages. I prefer this route to the 'Print Option'.

    12. Check once again and then 'Generate'.

13 Log in once again and then you can upload your form (XML file from above).

14 Now download and print out the Acknowledgement (ITR-V)

    15. Sign and post one copy as instructed. Print using a Laser or Deskjet printer. Dot Matrix will not do since the 2D Barcode at the bottom has to be read at their end. Sign in Blue.

    16. Post in an A4 envelope (no folding) the the address specified. Hopefully you will have the acknowledgement on e-mail in 2-3 weeks. If nothing then post again.

I am no tax consultant but find this straight forward. If you have a digital signature then Step 16 is not required. Registration and Uploading will be a slightly different.

  3. Just heard one thing. TakaSky transponder is full, this is the reason they are unable to give ESPN-HD. The new transponder is due only in about seven months.

My son is looking for something similar. He has narrowed down to Airtel and TataSky+. The former is probably more advanced, have the option of a 120cm dish, but service is hopeless. TataSky by and large have the best service. Take your pick?

  4. this site has a bug in the tax calculation system

It calculates "advance tax penalty" for the amount paid as self assessment tax . Usually the self assessment tax is paid at the time of filing the returns by the salaried people. Since its paid in the month of June / July , the system considers it as late payment and calculates penalty.

Otherwise its a great system . I used it , filed returns and got an acknowledgement receipt too

You have to pay 30% advance tax by September (is it 15 ot 30 I am not sure0, 60% by December and full by 15 March. So interest may be chargeable. Also, the Ack you got should have been ITRV. You have to sign it (in blue) and post it without folding to the Bangalore address within 90 days, and wait for the e-ack, unless of course the return was digitally signed.

  5. @Genius; Switch off assisted dialling. Settings>Call>Assisted Dialling. My phone was fine for a couple of days, and then I must have switched on Assisted Dialling and and sms with a '0'prefix would not go. I installed Handcent and was editing out the 0 manually (sms goes without the 0 prefix wherever). Then I contacted Hetal and he advised me to switch off Assisted Dialling. You have to do a Restart to clear the cache.

    Please send me the link.

@dkaile: I am doing precisely that. There is no auto checking option. I am checking through both WiFi (IITK) and 3G (Reliance)at least twice a day. I am stock, unrooted.

    Added on 20/07

@Genius; Thought I had fixed it. Till yesterday it was taking +91 also. Then packed up no sms to a number with any prefix 0 or otherwise. Now again working both ways. I suspect Reliance are having network problems. Yesterday, Karnataka was 'busy' but sms'es were getting through. Even that stopped for some time. Could be nationwide problems. I suggest you install Handcent (Free is file). It lets you edit outgoing phone nos. for sms.

Still waiting for the link. No luck with OTA check today as well. Was hanging for ages though.

  6. Obviously these things can be done using CDMA workshop or something like that.

My question is - What are the codes for putting the phone(s) into the Modem mode. I understand that these may be:

##8778# for Epic 4G. Then select USB Modem

##3424 <call> for Incredible then quickly select PC to Phone mode.

Please confirm. Also, codes for other phones. We are not all Guru's like you guys!

  7. Matrix take possession of your credit card for security purpose where as in Reliance Passport no such security & best part the card is yours for life time so every time u travel ur no. remains the same unlike in Matrix u get new no everytime.

They cannot take over your card. They just take authorisation for Rs.5000, but billed me only 550. Never asked for the card except to swipe for the authorisation.

  8. We are moving a bit OT into services other than EVDO.

I must add that I find Tata EVDO excellent. Typical data rates in excess of 1.5Mbps, stable connection, etc.

I think a move to GSM is on the cards. They have DoCoMo which is considered by many as the world leader in 3G. Despite the loss of customers in droves they are still not permitting non-Tata Smartphones (no MEID registration). So all the signs are the same.

Despite all problems with Reliance we still find their network excellent, and due to 850MHz their signal penetrates into many buildings where the 1800/1900 MHz does not! It may be worthwhile to get the no. of new subscribers every month, in addition to the port-outs!
