  1. Plz suggest a GSM phone with

    Minimum Specs of :

    1 GHz

    1 GB RAM

    4"

    Android 2.3

    Looking for around 6k.

Difficult to get 1Gb ram at this price range.

You could try Karbonn S1 which is about 8k on flipkart.com and presently there i a offer on flipkart.

    spec

    1.2 GHz Quad Core Processor

    Dual SIM (GSM + GSM)

    Android v4.1 (Jelly Bean) OS

    4.4-inch Capcitive Touchscreen

    1Gb ram

I think you are right, I am not able to find anything because of 1GB. I think, probably I have to settle for less RAM. Is there any option for the similar specs but RAM about 512 MB ?

  2. Guys Lenovo A820 comes in 3 variants

1.A820 - GSM/WCDMA (WCDMA =3G GSM Global Standard) operator China Unicom

2.A820T - GSM/ TD SCDMA (TD SCDMA is also GSM 3G Technology Developed by china ) operator China Mobile

3.A820E - GSM/CDMA 2000 (CDMA 2000 is Data enabled CDMA network the one we use here ) operator China Telecom

The E at the end in the Lenovo Denotes EDGE thats what i think as i have seen many Dual sim Gsm / CDMA handsets like A600E , A765E , A365E and all are GSM + CDMA Dual sim Phones

For many Brands you will find 3 variants in china one for each operator

and none of the phones made for china market have Google play store or any Google services pre installed

    hope this clears some confusions

    Good to know this.

Has anybody actually tried the A820E to confirm this ?

I checked few Lenovo phones at Raghuleela mall at Borivli but the shop keeper infromed that no Lenovo phones were CDMA+GSM.

  3. ^^^^^

Not like that... They havevery strong EVDO coverage in circles where they misssed 3G license (incl MH, TN, etc) and they are also going to introduce the same plan in EVDO too..

But that will be only through CDMA.

For the circles where Reliance does not have 3G licenses, it is a free hand given to A Vo Id.

We still do not have real affordable CDMA+GSM handsets which can run jelly bean with proper speed. To take advantage of the new price war on 3G, we need only GSM handsets and EVDO will not be usable on it.

  4. @nellorian, i would definitely send u the process. However the rom ismore than 100 mb and its extremely difficult to download without any understanding of chinese language. I would upload the file somewhere. Give me some time. Currently busy on a project, will mail you in a week's time

  5. The rom that i m using is official version for china telecom.

It is in chinese at the setup but from langiage setting, can be converted to English. This is stable and now i m using for last 15 days.

It does not have a problem of caller id. However, instead of the name of the network provider it displays the number. Which i dont think has anything to do with performance or usability.

The major problem is - now it doesnt go to EDGE, it remains on GPRS. However, EVDO works petfactly alright. Also, Milestone Overclock doesnt work with 2.2 so cant overclock now. I tried using some other app but that messed up the speed. Need to rollback.

The major advantage is, more apps are now compatible with it. And i m enjoying it.

Let me know if more info is required.

  6. Starting a new thread to get and make the information available on different 3G plans.

I feel the requirement because now I feel that I would switch from RCDMA to some other GSM provider which provides competitive rates for 3G services.

For last 2 years of so, I am using Idea and RCDMA with Motorola XT800. The voice requirement is served with idea and EVDO is from RCDMA. On RCDMA, I am on Zero Rental plan and pay only for data when I use. I dont have any add-on pack for it. At the max I get 20 Rs. of the bill per month. Because I also have 100 MB of data free on Idea. I keep the data always ON on my phone. For calling on viber, Kakao, skype I use EVDO. For other surfing purposes, EDGE is sufficient.

But now, purely from the reason of having better and affordable handset, I want to move to GSM+GSM. So even though having the best association with RCDMA, unavailability of good and affordable CDMA+GSM handset, I would make a move. It would be sad to leave RCDMA's association which is now almost 9/10 yrs old.

I would like this thread to provide information on different data plans (Only 3G - GSM).

I got this info so far -

    RGSM - Rs. 123 - 1GB

    Airtel - Rs. 252 - 1GB

    Aircel - Rs. 198 - 1GB

    BSNL - Rs. 250 - 1GB

    Idea - Rs. 250 - 1GB

    Docomo - Rs. 93 - 600 MB + 500 mins.

    Vodafone - Rs. 250 - 1GB

I would search for pay-as-you go rates and update here shortly.

    Edit: Updated with direct links

  7. Finally upgraded to Froyo.

After using this phone for a year and a half now, I felt sever desire to upgrade it. Searched a lot for 2.3 ROM, found three but I was not confident enough on their stability. But during that search I found 2.2 ROM. Finally upgraded it 2.2, root it and also able to use link2sd. Few apps like Wunderlist and Line they were not compatible with 2.1 are now compatible with my phone.

All in all a good experience with this phone.

  8. Source : http://www.moneycontrol.com/news/business/reliance-communications-hikes-voice-call-prices-by-20_865286.html#toptag

"Reliance Communications , India's third-biggest mobile phone carrier by customers, said on Monday it had increased voice call prices on some of its plans by about a fifth and cut promotional offers and discounts on some others by up to 65 percent.

The move comes as mobile phone companies in India, burdened by heavy debt and facing huge payouts for airwaves, are cutting discounts to customers, effectively increasing call prices.

Easing competition after several smaller carriers either shut down or scaled back operations is also helping the bigger carriers to be aggressive on call prices, which are one of the cheapest in the world.

The stock has more than doubled since April. "

Not sure whether this is for CDMA/GSM, Prepaid/Postpaid, or across the board.
