  1. I completed port out from Rcom to Jio but got zero balance (no data or voice balance) though I paid Rs.650 to the gallery fellow. Is this normal? I called up Jio cc at 198 but they said they couldn't find any recharge in my number and that I'll have to recharge again. If so, what was that 650 for? Confused

    Airtel is insisting on port out only to their postpaid plans. Has anyone had success in porting to an Airtel prepaid plan? So far, I've ported out one number to Jio. I have another that I want to port to Airtel but the insistence on postpaid is a deal breaker. Vodafone comes across as desperate to acquire new customers but non-committal on specifics. Idea, I'm not sure if it's a good option for Mumbai circle.

    Has anyone been able to port out their postpaid RCOM number to a prepaid number of a different operator, and activate the same on the new network? I was asked to pay an inflated bill (almost double of what I usually pay) before the initial port out was done. But so far, it's been 5 days, and I'm still on RCOM. I haven't got any sms regarding the port out status. I'm in Mumbai circle.

    Did you have to download the Jio app for it (to get the coupon code) or did you directly go to the Jio store to get the number ported to Jio? I tried the MyJio app but am not able to get this coupon code. It seems you need some Jio ID for the same, which I don't have. So I'm looking for the best way I can migrate my Reliane GSM prepaid number to Jio. I have the Aadhaar card but getting stuck at this coupon code part. Any specific advise in this regard would be helpful. Thanks!

    Has anyone recently ported out from Reliance GSM to Jio? A few months ago, I wanted to port out but Jio wasn't accepting port out requests from Reliance. Has the situation changed now? I'm in Mumbai circle.

    I'm on a postpaid Reliance connection. If I port out to a different operator, can I do so to a prepaid connection or do I have to take a postpaid connection with the new operator too?

    I agree with this 100% Ever since I migrated from CDMA to "4G" voice clarity has been terrible. Whenever I get an incoming call, I have to tell the person on the other side to repeat what he's saying. Voice sounds muffled. Very bad and embarrassing. Data is good but Voice is a big failure.
  8. Can anyone confirm which is the best Reliance dongle to buy right now? 4G Wi-Pod looks expensive at Rs 3000... Pro 3 / WiPod is Rs 1199 but the Rcom website describes it as supporting CDMA bands, so I'm confused if it will work. For those who are migrating from Netconnect, which option should I go for now? Thanks in advance for your help.

    I upgraded my CDMA dongle to 4G and have been trying to order the 4G WiPod at the discounted price but I keep getting errors and timeouts. Most of the time, the page doesn't even load. Total lack of planning by Rcom.

    We have to return the dongle? I didn't know that. You mean, they won't give us the 4G sim for the data card unless we return the old dongle? Please clarify. Thanks.

    Yes, it's a huge difference in quality specially when I compare my CDMA experience to this new GSM/4G hybrid. I've used Reliance CDMA for 10 years and all through that, the voice clarity was superb, even during rains. I could hear the sound of a pin dropping or a crow cawing in the background on the other side. Now, post migration, I'm hearing my own voice during calls If this is the network condition in Mumbai then only god knows how bad it's going to be in remote areas. Curiously, my dongle is working quite fast though I know CDMA is going to be officially shut down by tomorrow. However, the 4G dongle is not yet activated.

    For the last 2 days, whenever I do a refill into my 4G-migrated prepaid sim, I get an error that says (sic) "Recharge Types doesn't exists!" This error happens only on prepaid mobile recharge. No such errors while recharging dongles. Also, post migration from CDMA to 4G, I'm noticing 3 issues with my postpaid connection: I'm hearing an echo while making calls. That is, whenever I make a call, I can hear an echo of my own voice along with the voice of the person I'm talking to. There's a delay of around 10 sec in sending sms (i.e., when I type a message and press send, the message doesn't get sent immediately. I see a 'sending' notification for about 10 sec before the message finally gets sent). While making calls in the afternoon, I have to try multiple times before I'm connected.

    Yes, I'm facing the same issue as well (Mumbai circle). I migrated 2 prepaid numbers from CDMA to 4G. Migration proceeded normally but now, when I try to recharge from the Rcom site, I get an error message like "Recharge values don't exist".

    Is CDMA network totally gone out in Mumbai? I'm seeing 1X/EVDO signals on my mobile but I'm not able to make or receive calls & sms. (It was fine in the morning but service went out around 12pm). I'm reluctant to try the 4G sim because the guy at the store specifically told not to insert the 4G sim unless the existing CDMA network completely goes out. Else the new sim will get deactivated. Is this true? What's the next step now since two of my phones are not at all functioning for the past 5 hours.

    Just parking some weekend thoughts here about this whole CDMA / GSM / 4G thing. Netconnect users (prepaid) would remember that recharge tariffs went up in late March or early April this year. For some years, I was able to recharge for Rs 797 and get between 5-10GB usage. Now, to get the same, I have to recharge for Rs 1299 or so (this relates to Mum/Mah circle, so your values may be different). Now remember that, in March/April, no one really had a clue that CDMA was going to be shut down or 4G was going to be launched "soon". In the former case, people were still buying CDMA handsets and news about 4G launch was still something that was several months away. Adding the two, it's obvious that something was cooking. Instead of telling us that CDMA was on its last legs, or that they were testing a new network for a "proper launch", the very first thing Reliance did was raise tariffs on data. Also, their emphasis seems to be more on pushing 4G handsets than talking about the 4G network. This is like putting the cart before the horse. In both cases, Reliance gets money, whereas we keep waiting for dates like 31 Dec, 30 Jun, 31 May, and then now, it seems like 24 May. Given this background, I remain sceptical about 4G. After all this hype and doubt, what if they finally pull the curtains to reveal something that says 4G on the box but runs more like 3G or 2.5G? If they're building 4G services by adding on to legacy networks then performance will be patchy. Moreover, in a professional launch, we usually see articles from independent beta testers and other qualified experts who are given a glimpse of network quality (pros, cons, progress, things like that). Add to that, all of the publicly available reviews are for handsets, not the network itself. So this whole launch process is running behind the scenes and all we're getting are bits and pieces of information from "dealers". Hopefully, by 24 May (or is it 3 Jun?) we'll get more clarity. Till then, I can just hope that CDMA continues to function and the migration is free of unwanted drama and suspense.

    Curiously, I'm getting messages from supposed rival dealers offering to retain my number on their network with benefits like 900 mins, 1000 sms, 1GB data. They all have spelling mistakes. My only doubt: How did they get my number? I'm guessing these are some kind of targeted messaging in bulk.
  19. Smartphones that will work on Reliance 4G

    Do I have to get a 4G phone post migration to the 4G network, or will a regular GSM phone work as well? My main use is only calling and sms (nothing else). Plus, I don't really like Android smartphones (I've been a dumbphone user for several years, so prefer those for utility). I was happy with my CDMA phone but since we are compelled to move now, I simply want to retain my existing number but don't require the extras of 4G. Just calling and sms is my sole purpose. Will any GSM phone suffice in this scenario?

    Firstly, I've learnt more about Reliance 4G from this forum than from official channels. Thanks for that. Secondly, some points to consider: Reliance revamped their online store to reflect 4G prioritization They put ads on TV promoting their 4G-enabled LYF smartphones They sent umpteen messages about CDMA shutting down and how 4G is inevitable In some circles, it seems that they've already shut down CDMA signals rendering phones useless They first said they'd be sending 4G sim by courier (I never got it) and then said to pick it up from the store (they didn't have it too) And after all this hullabaloo, they want us to go for GSM now? Was this all simply a marketing ploy to get more GSM subscribers because they were never sure of rolling out 4G in time? Or did they want to totally wipe off the existing CDMA base and start off 4G on a fresh note? Really annoying to see this happening and how badly it's being mismanaged. Calls to CC come up with vague and contradictory responses. It's like they couldn't care less because they don't know who's in charge of this whole fiasco. I also get the impression that if 4G does materialize (miracle!) then it will just be 3G made to seem faster. On a related note, I'm noticing that On-Net mode on my dongle no longer works (despite recharging for unlimited usage). On my existing CDMA phone too, the voice calls feel muffled and different. They have taken a great network and chopped it down to a mess. It's not 4G, more like 0G.
