Sometimes maturity comes from the pocket. If you like sms logic tells shift to gsm lots of sms like flash sms and animated sms are not available on any handset of reliance and there are more gsm players which give free sms and sms at 30ps and there is a lot of inter operator compatibility in gsm to gsm than say gsm to cdma. If you use r-world to the max then your battery life will automatically come down be it any color handset then how can you expect not to be worried when you get a call. It is better to use r-world with charger (set your priorities straight). Regards Ananth

Saurav Find someone who will buy the handset for a good price ( around 4-5k ...... i know it is a big loss since you bought it for 12k but there is no other go ) and later buy a new handset of your choice and swap the numbers ------ it is posssible with mutual understanding at rww i have enquired. Hey Guys Looks that no one is satisfied with GTRAN. I take a contarary view ------ it has got all the features that i need for a mobile that is 1. Making and receiving calls ***** ( i have never had any problems till date) 2. GOod Ring tones from PC sync software *** 3. Great display and good looks (though its exterior may have been better) **** 4. Mobile banking and checking mail (rediff) ** 5. Sms (though it may have been better one gets used to it but it hardly matters to me now since making a call is cheaper than sending sms and other operators have made it costlier to send sms to reliance atleast in karnataka) * As far as missing r-world applications none of those are of really much use since i dont need to make rail reservation or m-coupons etc. My only greivance is against the battery life but fortunately it lasts a day for me which is enough. I would rather keep this great handset which fortunately works for me than change my handset and later realize that the new handset has got bugs and crib about it (which is inevitable since no handset is perfect without bugs) Regards Ananth

HI everybody, Here are a few tips given to me by the webworld guy as well as my own experience of the GTRAN handset for the past one month ----------- please correct me if i have said anything wrong---- * Charge your battery only after it gets fully discharged. * Charging with the travel charger is a better option. It takes longer to charge but i have noticed it definitely gives more power. * If your present battery isnt giving good life then follow the following steps --- let the phone discharge completely --- then charge it with travel charger for full 12 hours ---- repeat this for atleast 3 times (this suggestion was given by webworld guy and it really helped even after 20 days of usage!!) I always do the following ----- keep it all night long for charging with the phone off --------- some people told me that it hurts the battery life -------- but it is just the opposite for MY GTRAN it markedly improves the battery life. Earlier the battery indicator used to show no sticks at the end of the day but now-a-days it shows around 2-3 sticks (out of max 4) with these methods. NAV 2004 professional is good but it utilizes too much system resourses and really slows down the computer. However it doesnt detect spyware and you have to use adware removers like adaware to remove spyware ---- this is really irritating. Just for info - nav pased the above test. Regards Ananth

Hi all I learnt this fact a coupleof days ago. When i was about to charge the phone with the travel charger the battery fell off suddenly and the phone continued to work!! This is a really weird ------ and totally useless fact since it takes the meaning out of the word 'mobile'. Just wanted all you guys to know this absurd fact. Thats It!! Regards Ananth

I tried it only once to know the standby time. It says on the manual that stnadby time is 90-120 hrs but the actual fact is it is less than half of that. Yeah you are right we should enjoy all the features of the phone and not worry about the battery life. The battery of gtran is lithium standard ---- is there any difference between lithium standard and lithium ion battery ??

A few more complaints to the chairman and these too will be sorted out --- especially MMS which seems to be on the cards after icici bank ------ as far as ringtones are concerned none of the ringtones in rworld are good and it is possible to save latest ringtones through he pc sync.

Hi all This is regarding icici bank on gtran --------- it is finally here!!!! One less complaint against GTRAN -------- and one of the most useful feature needed by me on rworld!!! I have no more complaints about rworld on GTRAN and the handset in general since the feature which i wanted is finally here. My only complaints now are against the billing of relaince!!!! (hope this too is rectified soon) Maybe this feature coming on gtran is thanks to concerted efforts of complaining to the chairman by the unofficial moderator of this forum saurav. Thanks a lot!!! I tried to use lg 2030 without battery in a travel charger but it gets switched off as soon as you press the yes or no button. One cant make calls effectively without battery ----- i guess thats one advantage of GTRAN over LG 2030 !!!! I wonder why it doesnt work for LG 2030 ??? Is it the same with all the LG2030 or is mine the only exception??? Regards Ananth

Good idea saurav. Here are a few more tips ---- 1. Reduce the contrast of sub-lcd (external lcd) to as low as possible 2. Disable call connect/call disconnect and service alerts 3. Reduce the ringtone volume as per your preference 4. Reduce the contrast of main lcd display 5. Disable key tone with these tweaks i could stretch my battery life to a maximum of 44 hours on the trot ------- this maximum was acheived with all the tweaks above along with minimum use of the phone. I tried this only once with my 3 month old battery---- i havent yet used the other battery yet. Regards Ananth

Hi Saurav first of all thanks for standing up to reliance !!!! they already have started makin changes now --- 1. they have removed the mms section in gtran ( mostly it is gettin upgraded) 2. they have started icici mobile banking services As for distorted sms problem ---- i just hope they rectify it when they get a software upgrade Regards Ananth

Hi saurav Its really great that you are trying your best. Initially i was also really frustrated with the non availability of applications like icici bank and games on r-world. But after i complained to rcc they said that icici bank will be made available in a few days --------- i am still waiting. Anyways there are atleast ( just a wild guess) 20000-40000 (maybe more) subscribers of GTRAN and reliance cant afford to ignore this group. I dont think there can be any solutions to the distorted sms (one has to get adjusted to it i guess) but applications in r-world and mms hopefully will be made available. I really want to use icici bank services on r-world and will complain to the chairmans office in a few days. Meanwhile i had a few other complaints to the chairman which were resolved amicably. My bill after handset upgradation got deducted Rs 8651/ ----- an amount which i had already paid ----- it didnot get rectified even after 2 bills ---- so i complained to the chairmns office and in reply i got an assurance that everything will be sorted out (i just gave a jist of my bill problems i dont think anyone wants to hear the whole story). i guess reliancehas a way to trick honest subscribers and reward the defaulters. I use Norton Antivirus 2004 professional and a software called Ad-aware 6.0. This software removes all the bugs,spyware and adware quite efficiently. It is available for download at cnet download section. It is really popular and quite efficient.

My battery gives me around 1 - 1.5 days max. Am really not happy with it since my old phones (lg 2030 gave 2 - 2.5 days and nokia 3310 gave 3 - 3.5 days)------------------- some people use both the batterys given together with the GTRAN (keep one for chargin on the desktop charger when the other battery is in use)-------------- but i didnt want to do so hence i keep it for chargin every night. Also GTRAN charger is not available everywhere like the nokia chargers --------- hence one cant take the risk of not chargin everyday unless one carries the charger around everywhere or carries the charged spare battery along.

HI everyone, I just saw a link on r-world new arrivals today which showed icici bank! Its great to have access to your bank anytime anywhere and also pay your utility bills as well as your rim telephone bills through your mobile phone. Earlier they had started the same service for HDFC bank but its great that icici bank has started the same service. I just hope this service is provided free of cost Regards Ananth

No way GTRAN owners wiil be regreting after seeing the phone ----------- GTRAN is a way better phone and i am fully satisfied with it. LG 5130 is a good phone for its price------------- but like lg 2030 it has only 3 downloadable tones and no PC sync ( except bitpim)

Hi tanveer Recently even i dont get the fully charged sign on my lcd------------- maybe it is bcoz i keep the phone power ON while chargin and my battery is not discharged fully b4 keepin it for rechargin again. But when the battery is fully discharged AND the phone is kept OFF while chargin on the travel charger only then the battery gets fully charged after about 6 hours------ this is what i have noticed on my phone. Hi saurav A travel charger is the one you connect the phone terminal/port which doesnot have the indicator it only shows up on the phone lcd that it is fully charged------------ a desktop charger is one where you have an indicator (green) where you can keep the battery without the phone. So if you connect the travel charger it takes longer to charge ( atleast 4 hours after battery is completely discharged) ------------ my advice is that even after the phone shows that it is fully charged keep it for a full 8-12 hours and see the difference. This is possible if you keep the phone for chargin at night and disconnect in the morning. Regards, Ananth

What are CSV Files?Setu_garg, I was facing a similar poblem when i used r-connect on LG2030---- I have Windows XP professional SP1, each time i connected after about ten to 15 minutes the message appears " this system shutdown has been initiated by NT authority", and it says there is some problem with "remote procedure call service". I have so far not encountered any problem with PC sync on GTRAN and i havent yet tried out r-connect on it. Regards Ananth
