GUWAHATI: Cellular service in the North-East is set to take a big leap. Reliance Telecom Ltd, the oldest cellular service provider in the region, is planning to expand its service beyond Guwahati and Shillong, the two cities it is currently operating.

An official informed that RTL would use the optical fibre network of Power Grid Corporation, Railway Telecommunication and Oil India for expanding the service.

“We have already struck a deal with Power Grid. Discussions are on with Oil India and the Railways for this purpose. The optical fibre backbone is already there in some major towns of the region. We want to use that,” the official said.

Yeh, it makes much more sense to use the existing infrastructure of Fibre Optic Cables and that too in a region like NE.

Anyways, this is abt Reliance Telecom ... This is not Reliance Infocomm!

So strategies might be a bit different!
