Reliance Communications To Launch Gsm Service By Fiscal Year (2008) End

Recommended Posts

My guess is that even if Reliance introduces GSM, it is going to be only post paid connections initially. Only later will they start the prepaid connections as I am 100% sure that many CDMA users will take this as an exit route to embrace GSM technology where the main advantage is that one does not have to be locked to one handset.

And friends, if any of u have hopes that Reliance might introduce free calls(to all networks), like they had introduced in 2003 during the launch of Reliance Infocomm, then forget it. This is practically impossible. Especially considering that during the launch of Reliance Infocomm interconnect was just a mere proposal and was not yet implemented. So now if Reliance gives free calls, it has to pay the other operators from its own pocket which is IMPOSSIBLE!!!!!

^^ Reliance is already providing prepaid services in GSM in 7 circles. So what prevents them from launching prepaid in other circles initially?

Reliance is lanuching both prepaid and postpaid at the same time. Am in Tamilnadu, they have given both for their employees for testing, they are going to come up with onnet calling free when they launch, currently for employees they have given free as given below

Postpaid:

800 free offnet minutes

2000 free onnet minutes

Prepaid:

250 Free offnet minutes

Unlimited free onnet minutes

They might launch free again in onnet calls as it is not necessary for them to pay interconnect charges between GSM/CDMA, which is going to be an awesome offer. Lets wait and see for the commercial launch.

Reliance GSM Service Launch on Course

95857_matter.jpg

Targets 7 million handsets sales

CDMA major Reliance Communications (RCom) is expected to roll out its GSM services across the country early 2009. The company is currently in talks with handset manufacturers including LG, Samsung and Motorola to acquire the handsets.

The company has set a target of 7 million handsets, which it intends to bundle along with its service and sell mainly through its 2,500 retail stores across India. According to sources, RCom has earmarked approx. Rs 15,000 crore for its GSM services.

The Department of Telecommunications' dual technology policy allows existing CDMA players to also operate GSM services within the same licence. Apart from RCom, CDMA operators Tata Teleservices and Shyam Sistema are also in the race to launch GSM services.

The Indian telecom market is projected to reach 700 million subscribers by 2012 from the present 325-million plus.

^^^

I had a talk with somebody in the LTO recently. He told me that it may take 1 to 2 months or more for commercial launch in TN/Chennai. And we will not get our existing 93 series numbers on GSM. Maybe after MNP is in force, we may be able to use our old 93 series numbers. This may be one of the reasons for delay in commercial launch. MNP will be in force hopefully from June 2009.

As now signals are avilable in many circles when we do manual scan of our mobile as IND 3,10 etc for reliance GSM.

Please check official web site of reliance GSM and see thier call rates are high in all areas where

they have sevices like Orrisa, Bihar & Assam etc.,only we can see little competitive rates in Himanchal Pradesh. There is a rumour that their GSM sevices are being launched by year end or latest by January.Give your comments about thier plans after visiting following web site
