I feel the government will step in and stop both HSIA(TATA Indicom) and Reliance Netconnect Broadband+ .

This is Reliance's stunt to stop the popularity of TATA's Photon.

Only BSNL has right to start the EVDO and not private players.

This is against government rule to start EVDO till auctions for 3G is over.

Reliance anyway has to sell EvDO modems and upgrade their network to 3G after auctions.

So Reliance will not lose any money but users will be forced to revert back to CDMA 1x n/w till Govt. auctions 3G in the high price modems.

So friends please be careful. Wait for reactions from GSM players.

well yesterday on tech guru i saw them reviewing this evdo data card ...

it was been tested in mumbai ...

he was getting on an average 600 kilobits/s

and his avg download speed for 70kbps

it is practical spped for EVDO rev A.

even verizon n/w in US give same 600kbps(75KB/S)

thats pathetic, we get that much download speed on 512 Kbps connection....

512kbps means (6+4KB/s) hwich is lower then evdo

But practically wirelss speed faltuate and wireline gives stable 512kbps

Today i tried to book it online from Reliance site http://www.rcom.co.in/Communications/rcom/...buynow_bb+.html after selecting online it took me to this site http://offers.connectindia.in/reliance/broadband.jsp

When i fill the form and paid the amount 3500/- from my icici account it failed :NOTriste:

They deducted 3500/- from bank account.

Please find attached image as my screenshot.

i already sent a mail to support@vriti.com let see when i get my money back :(

Don't worry it will be retun to ur account in 34-working days.

as trancation was made thru Trusted site. VERISIGN symbol is present below it.

defenitly...Wireline Broadband tariffs will fall ...

Yes see BSNL and came down UL900 plan to UL750

I read (From Business Line) that only software updations were done on existing towers to launch EVDO. No additional hardware needs to be fitted. If that is the case I think we can expect it to be launched in more cities/towns shortly

I have seen BSNL BTS, where they were installing EVO hawrdware, so relinace must had installed h/w+upgrade s/w to work evdo

and forfet about rural EVDO covarage for atlest 1year

Technically EVDO wihout Vioce service (particularly through a Datacard) is not 3G mobile service.

Its a wireless internet service provided by an ISP.

Reliance holds an ISP licence in addition to a Mobile service provider licence.

i think this is a good thing for the road warrior... someone who needs to stay online more than download... it would be an instant hit with most... specially those relying on the stupid netconnect and datacards till now... i just hope it works as promised...

Not really......... 3G is all about data and not about voice.

voice doesn't need 3G.

EvDO is all about providing extra and independent bandwidth for data without disturbing the voice bandwidth provided through CDMA 100x

The devices are allotted phone numbers and not IP addresses.

Not allowing voice at this point of time is just a gimmick to fool Govt.

Just we'll wait and watch how Govt reacts to this.

I tend to agree with kesav's views. The GoI will definitely take some action, the COAI also has already pleaded to stop sales of such 3G services. If GoI does not act, the COAI will approach the courts. Buyers beware.

Reliance bets Rs 600 cr on high-speed Net

Mumbai, March 15, 2009

Hindustan Times

Reliance Communications has invested around Rs 600 crore in establishing a hybrid network for its ‘Netconnect Broadband Plus’ product, which it claims is India’s fastest Internet service.

“The company has upgraded the software in its existing CDMA network to make available high-speed Internet,” said Mahesh Prasad, president of Reliance Communications on Thursday, while launching Broadband Plus. With a downlink speed of up to 3.1 Mbps (megabits per second) and a separate uplink speed of upto 1.8 Mbps, the Broadband Plus service will be available in 35 cities from early next week.

Sources close to the development said that RCOM has invested around Rs 600 crores to establish the pan-India hybrid network for its data business and has a technical tie-up with Alcatel-Lucent to roll out the network. The investment includes the cost of USB modems, the value of the bulk order of which is estimated to be around Rs 300 crore. An RCOM spokesperson declined to confirm the figure.

RCOM is believed to have placed a bulk order for over one million USB modems with two global communication equipment suppliers, Huawei and ZTE.

The Broadband Plus is launched in two USB modem variants, catering to laptop and home PC users separately. The card will be available at Rs 3,500 and users can choose from service plans that range from Rs 299 for pay-per-use to Rs 1,750 for unlimited usage. The company will be retailing the product in 12,000 retail outlets in the country, in addition to 2,300 RCOM outlets.

Establishing a hybrid network is a part of RCOM’s strategy to drive Netconnect subscriber base in India. When a user connects to the hybrid network, the modem will first latch to high-speed data (HSD) network, if available. If HSD is not available it will automatically switch to CDMA telephony. This switching over and back would happen without disconnecting the data call.

The FUP clause is very disappointing. I'm considering Tata Photon.

Pros

1) No FUP

2) New Unlimited Plan is now 1250/=

Cons

1) Rev 0 (the website info is wrong: router and modem are both 2.4Mbps.

FUP is a deal breaker: Reliance please reconsider fast.

A lot of people here have concerns about government stopping this EVDO service. We must not forget that our netas (read chors, gundas and murderers) are busy in preparing for upcoming elections. So they may not have time for trivial stuff like EVDO and internet.

if u open http://auspi.in/search-subscriber.asp

this page and search RCL subsciber then u will find that

in jan the addition is only (Sub in jan=55550421-sub in DEC52065510), 3.4 million, so they are quaoting wrong result of 5mn. and if u analyse thr cdma growth is 2-3mn per month so GSM adiition in jan would be 1-2mn only.

+subcriber from RTL which is not more than 50-60thousand

so total adioon would be appox 4mn and gsm would be 2mn(including appox60thosand from RTL)

and same is case in feb too

just 2.9mn inluding cdma+gsm subcriber

http://auspi.in/news/subs-feb09-dot-report.pdf

these are official figure anounced by rcom to

But Reliance 3.1Mbps service is crap unless there is no FUP.

Second thing is there is Bsnl too , but it's speed is limited to 800kbps but worth ,

Tata Evdo not here in Punjab ,

Last thing, Is Reliance capable of providing Evdo at good speed considering , there is crunch in their CDMA spectrum , and there is no chance of getting addition spectrum in near future ,
