I do not understand. We need to pay just 1/- for lifetime validity?

Is this the end of the road for monthly recharging paradigm?

Not really... Aircel launced 1000 Rs plan with 1000 SMS + 75 Rs topup for 1500 additional local and national SMS in mumbai. Airtel does not really plan on countering that :D

I think all this new found love of operators to give lifetime connections for nearly free is something to do with MNP, which will make people on lifetime connections more difficult to change operators.... this is just a hunch....

^^Exactly!

I recently received an SMS on my Tata Indicom Mobile saying "Do you use any other landline or mobile of another company? If yes, send Y to XXXX to receive special offers"

And the sender is "Retention1"!!!

XXXX is some number which i don't remember.

So in the coming months, we can expect much more good offers for existing customers also! iam sure Vodafone is going to loose many subscribers(me for sure) if they don't modify their GPRS tariffs..!

Reliance GSM is no less either. It has introduced a plan giving free prepaid GSM sim card with lifetime validity and a talktime of Rs 20 in Delhi. There are many other and interesting schemes for reducing call rates.

My airtel validity was supposed to expire yesterday. But it has been extended to April 2012 without paying anything.
