Reliance Mobile has introduced BIGMaps service on its GSM network. This service allows search across business, directions, events and movies by organizing local information on a pan-India basis. The application is available on mobile through SMS, Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) and downloads. The company will launch the service over internet in some time.

Through this service, a user can search maps data across 15 zoom levels and landmark based routing. Reliance Communications is the first telecom operator to provide the service.

Once public beta is opened on web, the platform will allow rich mobile web experience leveraging on the maps and geocoded yellow pages information for India.

"This service will increase the usage of device based search and navigation. Business, event, direction and point and find search are for the serious users, while friend finder adds the fun element," commented Krishna Durbha, Head, VAS, Reliance Communications.
