Aditya Birla Group company, IDEA Cellular, on Monday announced the lowest tariff for mobile users in the city offering all local calls for 40 paise per minute for a period of one year, and STD and SMS at 50 paise per minute, on any mobile and landline network.

The existing IDEA pre-paid subscribers can recharge with the new special tariff voucher priced at Rs 47, and validity of one year. The new pre-paid subscribers of IDEA can avail the reduced call rates from the first recharge itself, a release said.

However, regular tariff will apply for the first minute of the day. Subsequently, the special call rate of 40 paise for local calls and 50 paise for STD calls will be applicable.

This plan will be available at all retail outlets and My IDEA showrooms in Mumbai.

The company believes that the new offer will enable over a million IDEA subscribers in Mumbai to call and SMS their friends and family members across the country at low rates for a longer duration of time, the release said.

Idea introduces per-second billing option

Press Trust of India

October 10, 2009

Idea Cellular today introduced per-second pulse rate for its subscribers in Himachal Pradesh and Rajasthan, intensifying the already existing tariff war among operators.

The 'Super Second' plan will allow customers to make local and STD calls on any network in India at the rate of 1 paise per second.

Idea cellular becomes the first operator after telecom regulator TRAI suggested earlier this week that per second pulse should be made a mandatory option along with other tariff plans.

The move could lead to differences among the GSM operators as a section of old service providers have opposed making per-second pulse option mandatory saying tariffs are under forbearance and should be left to market forces.

Idea Cellular has also lowered rates for local and long distance calls to any network for its customers in Himachal and Rajasthan.

Under 'Super Saral' local calls will be charged at 40 paisa a minute and STD at 60 paisa a minute.

To avail of the tariff plan, existing prepaid subscribers will have to buy a voucher at Rs 26, and new subscribers for Rs 48, an Idea release said here today.

"This is yet another 'first from Idea' to offer world class and affordable telephony services to mobile consumers in the region," Anish Roy Chief Operating Officer-Idea circle for Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Rajashtan and Jammu said. The new tariff vouchers will be available at My Idea Showrooms and Idea Points in Himachal.

I feel Reliance scheme is still better. Reliance has local calling packs which give you 200mins on a recharge of Rs. 80 which effectively works out to 40ps/min. And all this without the hassle of first call at standard rate etc. Added benefits like roaming and sms too :)

Idea Cellular enters Kolkata, West Bengal market

Kolkata : Idea Cellular, an Aditya Birla Group company, launched its GSM mobile services in Kolkata and the rest of West Bengal yesterday.

With this Idea became a pan-India player with 98 pc

coverage of the telephony potential of the country, claimed the company.

In keeping with the recent brand campaign, Idea brand ambassador Abhishek Bachchan came in 'Walking and Talking' to the launch ceremony here, in a symbolic gesture to flag off the services.

'The launch of our services in Kolkata and West Bengal marks near completion of our mission to become pan-India operator by 2010. Idea is the fastest growing mobile operator in India and I am confident that our high quality network and services will enhance mobile experience for the 'City of Joy' and the rest of the state,' said Ambrish Jain, Director-Operations, Idea Cellular Ltd.

The under-penetrated region of West Bengal with mobile penetration of just 24%, in contrast to the highly competitive market of Kolkata metro with a high mobile teledensity of 73%, has been identified as a strategic market by Idea.

According to Jain, Idea's initial network of 1,150 cell sites will progressively grow to a network of over 2,800 cell sites to cover more than 8,200 towns and villages by the end of March 2010.

Idea's 2.75G EDGE enabled network will cover 8 major districts-Hoogly, Burdwan, Murshidabad, North and South 24 Parganas, Nadia, Bankura and Purulia, during the launch phase, and will be expanded to cover 22 districts of West Bengal and Sikkim, before the end of current financial year.

'We have made an investment of Rs 600 crores in the current fiscal for the Kolkata and West Bengal chapter, and will invest Rs 1,200 crore in the next 3 years to strengthen our GSM services here,' Jain said at the launch.

As per the company plans, the Idea service network will comprise of over 29,000 retail outlets and 156 showrooms across the state by March 2010.

Idea is also introducing two billing plans for its subscribers.

'We are the first operator to offer billings as per customer choices. Subscribers can choose either 1p/min or 40p/min billing for 365 days without paying for any power vouchers or tariffs,' a company spokesperson said.

Idea Cellular has a subscriber base of over 51 million across the country. The company has recently launched services in Jammu and Kashmir and will soon launch operations in Assam and North East, thereby making its presence felt in all 22 telecom circles in the country.
