Virtual SIM?? In any case it wont be like a real SIM of GSM, because

1. Reliance has to register your handsets ESN on thier networks.

2. Unlike TATA indicom, MIN is not your phone no. , so even this has to be registered.

In other words, reliance is simplifying Handset exchange, but it will still involve the painful experience of WW, and the after mid night *228 agony.

it might be that they will be giving you an activation no ( printed on a card) and you will have to enter that no after dialling *228 to activate the mobile

Reliance is planning to delink direct handset sales with connection.

So on experimental basis, they are planning to launch this option most probabaly from Dec onwards.

It's really a revolutionary idea from a CDMA operator.

Well but if they delink direct handset sales.. we may not get these highly discounted models. We got to pay the price as decided by the manufacturer, isn't it?

But then we can always move betn cdma operators and also new connections(no change) from the same operator.

Ya Seems Revolutionary . but depends on how they implement .. easy to use with keeping security in mind.

Adds another dimension to CDMA. ;)

Virtual SIM seems to be a card with some hidden number to be scratched out from the surface. That no. may be used to program the h/s as they do incase of selling a new h/s. All the sets are not RUim compatible, e.g. Nok3105. Handset instalments may be waived for a lucrative sum... May be?

The concept of virtual RUIM will be applicable only to transfer your existing number to RUIM or to a non RUIM based handset.

Till date companies are manufacturing non RUIM based handset just because Reliance purchases handsets in bulk.

The companies like Nokia, Motorola and GTran have already working with RUIM based handsets. They will never introduce non RUIM based handsets in open market jus for 1 company.

So in coming days I expect RUIM based handsets. This will also increase the competition b/w the CDMA players.

I think Virtual SIM is much more advanced thought as there is no Physically Removable Card yet the job gets done. Logical accessing concepts based on the Settings available with Handset reduces the chances of physical damage to the H/S and steps up to the level of digital programming. I remember ONIDA has launched TVs in India with built-in digital network inside sets which could be repaired/reconfigured with the remote in more than 60% cases!

RUIM is better than the existing system used by Reliance.

RUIM or SIM system is preferred all over world and even Reliance knows this but to keep the customers hooked non RUIM system is better.

Recently there have been many complaints regarding the use of same number on two handsets. That is two people sharing same number and same bill. Some did knowingly but some suffered loss in this. Even police cases have been registered.

Don’t ask how this is possible because it’s illegal to discuss such things. But one has to be super master to do this.

RUIM and SIM based handsets are free from such bugs. Be careful when you give your handset to ASC or to your friend.

if they move towards virtual SIM, the RUIM system will be completely redundant and useless... but as long as they are able to give me the desired flexibility its great :)

Nokia 2280 doesn't have a preinstalled RUIM for RIM. So RUIM enabled handsets are also capable of being programmed for vSIM. These kind of handsets are the best option as they offer both.

Definetely not free of bugs. Its easier and more common in the GSM world to have two phones with the same number. Point 2, ok, we have a virtual SIM, so thats a scratch card with a number.

If you enter this no. onto a phone, then that phone carries your phone no. What if someone gets hold of this no, can they program thier handset with your phone no. then? Is it " Cloning for Dummies? "

Just talking about the security issue here :confuse:
