ZTE Lead in Tata Teleservices EV-DO Network Test

ZTE, the leading global provider of telecommunications equipment and network solutions, today announced that it has emerged as the leader among the vendors who were invited by Tata Teleservices to do EV-DO Rev.B test in their lab.

Dr. Ghosh, Chairman & Managing Director, ZTE Telecom India Pvt Ltd said that The main objective of the test was to check the EV-DO Rev.B network solution to be deployed by Tata Teleservices, Indias second largest CDMA carrier. Both ZTE and Tata Teleservices took the EV-DO Rev.B test seriously as it would later impact customer satisfaction.

Mr Ghosh also added that The test that we conducted in the Tata Teleservicess lab was a great success. Our reverse and forward rate was far better than our competitors. The perfect testing results proved that ZTE CDMA is the number 1 in the field.

According to ZET, The EV-DO Rev.B test not only included equipment testing, but also involved a frontal PK process. ZTE forward rate was more than 6.2 Mbps and reverse rate was 3.6 Mbps. In addition, ZTE proved its efficiency in the following three carrier frequency tests too.

In a closely related development, TTSL asks DoT to spell out precise nature of problem with Chinese gear

Tata Teleservices whose CDMA network is mainly run on equipment supplied by Chinese telecom vendors, asked the DoT to ascertain the exact nature of the problem with these equipments or vendors from the government.

"As a Tata company, it goes without saying that we are committed to protect national security and hence, we seek your guidance as to what is wrong with these equipment or vendors and what needs to be done by us or by these vendors to remain compliant with the requirements of national security," said TTSL in its letter to DoT Secretary P J Thomas.

The company said that due to the delays in granting clearance for essential equipments, the company’s network and quality were greatly being impacted. It also said that equipment being provided by some of the European vendors was also manufactured in China.

"We need to understand that many European brands are also getting their network equipment manufactured in China, what is going to be the policy of DoT as regards such equipments," said the company.

Anil Sardana annouces launch of TATA Photon ++ (EVDO Rev.B (3 carriers))in partnership with Olive.

After months of earnest speculating regarding launch of 3G-enabled services, services are slowly being rolled out by the lucky winners of the 3G auctions. Among them, TTSL has just announced a tie-up with Olive Telecom for the launch of two new products in India, the Olive Genie V-ME150, and Olive Nexus V-R9.

While the Olive Nexus is a pocket travel router with in-built longer lasting Lithium Ion battery, with multiple connectivity options like Edge, 3G, 3.5G, 1x, EVDO Modems or ADSL, Ethernet and Wimax, allowing the user to create a personal Wi-Fi hotspot which allows connectivity for 5-10 users at a time and is technology agnostic, usable on GSM/3G GSM or CDMA networks, as well as future EVDO and HSPA, the Olive Genie is a palm-sized multi-purpose modem, that goes a step ahead of the regular Tata Photon Plus, having a mobile-broadband access-enablility, a hi-capacity memory chip which expandable memory of up to 32 GB, FM, in-built dictaphone and a digital audio player.

Olive Telecom which recently released India's first low-cost hybrid mobile phone,Olive Wiz, a dual-power, triple sim, touchscreen and querty keypad, is now the first to launch an FCC-approved 3G-embedded EVDO wireless solution, and will be exclusively marketing it under the TTSL brand, as an extension to the Tata Photon Plus, soon to be available at all Tata Indicom outlets.

Talking about the reason for choosing the TTSL platform at the launch, Arun Khanna, chairman of Olive Telecommunication said, “Having seen the unmatched connectivity offered by Tata Photon Plus, and the wide network availability of the Tata brand, we decided to work with TTSL to develop a product that would be a better extension of the Tata Photon Plus, that would be compact in size, and offer enabling not only for 3G, but for all future networks that include 3GPP, HSPA, EVDO.”

With an incremental CAPEX for 3G of less than Rs 1000 crore. Anil Sardana, MD, TTSL, remarked, “With a 50% market share for data, the partnership with Olive will definitely be instrumental in helping us to leverage 3G, as we believe that usage of mobile will move from ears to eyes . As we see it, in the future voice will be used on the GSM platform, and increasingly CDMA will be used for data, being empowered with HSPA or EVDO through a dongle. Thus, as a step to being future-ready, we are also partnering with Olive to soon launch Tata Photon ++, which will offer speeds of up to 9.6 Mbps. We chose Olive because of their constant innovation and ability to meet the fast-changing requirements of a future-connected world.”

With a mushrooming of vendors today, offering a step ahead in mobile applications and innovative features, there are indeed very few which have been successful internationally and then set up base in India, operating out of the country. Olive is one such brand, which has done this, seeing great potential in the Indian market. In keeping with the promise to launch 2-3 new products every month, Olive will soon be launching six Querty EVDO-powered CDMA phones, as well as dual network (CDMA-GSM) phones in the Indian market, with Android products to be available in two months from now, with a 100 days replacement warranty. Olive expects its annual sales volume to reach US $ 1 bn by 2012.

TATA is racing ahead in data market with faster speed and newer technologies.

It clearly indicates that their 3G deployment is in EvDO and may not be in HSDPA.

We've to see what route they'll take for 4G.

Let Tata first launch Photon+ first in main cities atleast (let alone Photon++) In ROTN, Photon+ is NOT EVEN available in MADURAI.. They have launched Photon+ services in two or 3 cities only in each circle, let alone semi-urban areas..

The picture is dismal in case of West Bengal, in fact it is the worst in whole of India. There isn't a single city in ROWB circle having EVDO coverage. There are quite big cities like Bardhaman, Durgapur, Asansol, Malda, Baharampur or Siliguri where Photon+ can easily be a sucess. It's still a mystery what is holding TataIndicom back to launch EVDO in big cities here. They have launched it in much smaller places in north-east states and at least few cities have been brought under EVDO net in other states.

On the other hand MTS is making hay while the sun is shining.

TATA is not offering EVDO in Orissa , West bengal , Most parts of Bihar etc etc.

From what I was told by a TATA employee in Okhla Office is that equipment deployed in those areas cannot be used for EVDO

and that they have not been able to deploy the backbone for the data traffic.

But I could not understand why, and technically he was not able to explain convincingly.

@Santanu, you are an old corporate subscriber of Tata Indicom. You must have connections at the higher level of the company. Please try to convince them to consider potential subscriber base of Photon+ in large cities of West Bengal, Bihar & Orissa. This will be of immense help for the general subscribers like me.

with their plans as well as billing issues, photon plus shud be going down the drain and upon that, the network reach is pathetic...still m hoping better buisness sense prevails upon tata ppl....with aggressive expansions thy can be a better option to relince...

It is wireless and experience varies place to place... In my area MTS EVDO is very good. Photon+ is so-so and Reliance NB+ is worst than dial up ! :)

But surprisingly BSNL has no EVDO coverage here and BSNL 3G inspite of downtime and ping & DNS issues offers 350+ kBps ....
