Dual Mode 3G Handsets

Recommended Posts

After BB 9630/9650/9930, Motorola Droid Pro/Droid 2 Global, Ivio Twilight 7, HTC DROID Incredible 2/7 Trophy now I've to add Blackberry Storm2 9550 in the list...

Out of all the phones in the list, only Ivio Twilight 7 is OMH based....

Literally, RIM is running a crusade for dual-mode 3G handsets. If it adds OMH functionality to these handsets it'll be an icing on the cake.

Why don't mobile manufacturers provide CDMA & GSM handset dual in countries wherever these technologies are in use? There are lots of GSM handsets which aren't available in CDMA and we have to rely on Verizon (people like Hetal & sadik provide these handsets) to use these handsets. Lot of people have 2 SIMs now, and if the handsets are dual mode, we can keep on CDMA and one GSM SIM on one handset.

Any thoughts??

To add to the above list of 3G Dual mode mobiles, HTC released a new mobile recently on Verizon network, named as HTC Merge, it has a beautiful full QWERTY Physical keyboard, 800MHZ processor, 3.8" inch TFT Capacitive touchscreen. For more detailed specs go to the following LINK

It is nothing but a world edition of Atrix

Not exactly, Atrix has a 5 megapixel camera versus 8 megapixel, runs an older version of Android 2.2 and also features a bit larger 1930 mAh battery.

Ya... The camera is 8MPx, comes with GingerBread, battery is 1880mAh (still good)... Other differences include DualLED instead of SingleLED of Atrix, absence of finger-print scanner... But specs in GSMarena says it doesn't have 3GSM (Dora is the only option for high speed data) and doesn't have EDGE too... But it comes with VGA videocall camera :Equivocado: So I doubt, Gsmarena is wrong this time, else this phone doesn't deserves discussion in this thread...

My dear friend, unfortunately I've to reject the admission of your baby into this thread.

Reason for rejection::

Motorola XT882 is 2G-GSM and 3G-CDMA (similar to XT800) and not dual mode 3G phone...

Motorola Droid 4 and LG Spectrum Will Have Global GSM Roaming, Eventually

Source

Verizon has revealed that that its upcoming LG Spectrum and Motorola Droid 4 will feature global roaming capability through GSM / WCDMA support. Both phones offer LTE, so this makes them the first LTE devices to support GSM, CDMA and LTE alike — a potent triple combo that should give them top speeds essentially anywhere in the world, regardless of network Historically, Verizon has done a solid job supporting GSM global roaming, a challenging prospect when your network is underpinned by a technology supported in just a few dozen countries and territories around the world. CDMA / GSM hybrid handsets are easy to come by on the network's shelves, but the transition to LTE has complicated the issue significantly — any time you add a new radio to a phone, it takes another dose of engineering to get it working properly.

There's a catch, though: the capability won't be available at launch. Verizon says that it's working on "network enhancements" to improve roaming reliability on LTE devices, and it'll be turned on for both phones via software update later in the year, "likely" in the first half.
