MTS To launch 14.7 Mbps - EVDO Rev.B

Recommended Posts

You will be astonished to know that per capita income of India is even less than that of Bangladesh and that of Sri Lanka.

according to the IMF, India is ranked # 142 while sri lanka is # 121

world bank has us @ # 123 & S.L. @ 109

CIA world factbook puts India = 147 ; SL = 127

but in all 3 bangladesh is below us at least:

# 158, # 146, # 165 respectively

its nothing to be proud of but we are not so badly off either!

this year I expect us to cross $100/month = $1,200 annually which is a small step in the right direction

if you consider 'middle class' as those whose incomes are high enough to pay income tax [e.g., over rs. 10 - 11k monthly]

the GREAT indian middle class is hardly 5% of the population or 5 crore

all this talk of a billion consumers is quite misleading

if you have no income, you can't really consume or buy much

Hi Kesav,

I have a question regarding EVDO. EVDO Rev A - 3.1Mbit/s on single carrier.

EVDO Rev B - 4.9Mbit/s on single carrier =14.7Mbps with 3 carriers.

Then how EVDO RevB can offer 6.2 or 9.3Mbps? Is Rev A works on single carrier? and Multi Carrier RevA is actually Rev B ?

MTS To Launch 14.7 Mbps Super Speed Mobile Broadband in India

May Become World's First EVDO Rev.B Network (If Not, Surely India's)

Source

MTS the CDMA Mobile and EVDO Data Services of Sistema Shyam TeleServices Ltd (SSTL), which nationally operates its telecom services with over 11 million wireless customers finally geared up to launch High Speed Wireless Broadband with speed up to 14.7 Mbps in India.

To Upgrade its present EVDO network, MTS India today gave the commercial contract to ZTE Corporation, the global provider of telecommunications equipment and network solutions. ZTE will setup world's first CDMA EV-DO Rev.B for MTS India.

ZTE has also won the MTS India's CDMA expansion contracts and EV-DO upgrade contracts for 10 telecom circles. The EV-DO Rev.B Phase2 commercial launch will commence in Rajasthan circle with speed up to 14.7 Mbps.

The commercial use of EV-DO Rev.B technology will greatly enhance the existing service speeds of mobile broadband for SSTL. Compared to EV-DO Rev.B Phase1, the Phase2 technology can further enhance the BTS cell capacity, spectrum efficiency and peak rate, achieving high speed rate as high as 4.9 Mbps in single frequency carrier and 14.7 Mbps in three frequency carriers bundle.

At the same time, ZTE's solution based on SDR Uni-RAN technology can realize the system upgrade by just changing the channel card and software, which would protect the investment of SSTL to the fullest.

Vsevolod Rozanov, President & Chief Executive Officer, SSTL said "We are excited to partner with ZTE Corporation for further up gradation of our telecom network including the CDMA EV-DO Rev.B Phase 2 roll-out. This would enable us to cater to the fast growing demand for high speed mobile broadband in the country. SSTL currently provides high speed mobile broadband services in over 150 towns across India".

ZTE and SSTL have been strategic partners since 2008. This win underlines that ZTE's CDMA technology, engineering services and other integrated capabilities have been fully recognised by SSTL, ZTE added.

"This contract will serve to further enhance SSTL's service offerings and strengthen the strategic partnership between the two companies. We will continue to provide world-class products and services to the Indian market and focus on enhancing our leadership position," ZTE India CEO Cui Liangjun said.

Dr sir... I heard a rumour that Tata is going to launch its EV-DO service in Raipur, within a month or two.. Paagal Tata, they already have 3GSM service running in Raipur and now going to launch EV-DO to become competitor of themselves...

RCom's policy of expanding EV-DO in circles they lost 3G license is best, imho as they can cover data customers in ALL circles... So as a result, no EV-DO from RCom in the near future, imho...

But I have NO INFO about MTS launching its EV-DO.. Please share if you have some...

EVDO Rev B with 3X Carrier on 800 Mhz Band is the ultimate in Data throughput.

Since 3.75 Mhz of available spectrum would be used up by EVDO alone, voice on 1X might suffer congestion as of now .

Till the time additional spectrum is made available.

Currently defence is sitting on some of it which will be freed and given to telecom operators.

MTS likely to succeed in a big way. I find EVDO to be more stable than 3G (GSM).

As of now I have never heard "network busy" with cdma voice calls on reliance, whereas I hear this frequently with gsm.

That is one huge advantage with cdma technology

Hi Kesav,

I have a question regarding EVDO. EVDO Rev A - 3.1Mbit/s on single carrier.

EVDO Rev B - 4.9Mbit/s on single carrier = 14.7Mbps with 3 carriers.

Then how EVDO RevB can offer 6.2 or 9.3Mbps? Is Rev A works on single carrier? and Multi Carrier RevA is actually Rev B ?

Exactly ... I was about to ask this question as I was reading this thread. RevB is actually NxRevA+voice capabilities (meaning a pure RevB network does not need to rely on 1x for voice), so coming back to NxRevA point, 3.75Mhz = 3x1.25MHz, which will give a forward link rate of around less thn 10Mbps & reverse link rate around 5Mbps. (So only way to say > 14Mbps with 3x carrier could be a marketing point by adding forward & reverse rates (upload+download rates in simple words) but could not be a reality).

Sorry to cross question pros :)

Also pls remember everyone, these are link rates, individual rates will be far less depending on simultaneous users, adjacent cells, backhauls etc etc etc... In DSL a 128K connection can give you a link rate of 100Mbps (local ethernet :P:D hehehe.. )
