RIL, R-ADAG deny rumour of RCOM deal

MUMBAI: Mukesh Ambani's RIL and younger brother Anil Ambani's R-ADA Group, on Friday , strongly denied any possibility of the control of Reliance Communications (RCOM) going to RIL as speculation.

Despite these denials from both groups, speculators had a field day, jacking up the stock price of not only RCOM, but also the stocks of other R-ADAG companies. As stock prices jumped in late session, there were rumours that the announcement could come as early as Sunday, although December 28 is the date most speculators are betting on.

Dealers said the talk in the market was that RIL Group could take a controlling stake in RCOM and the announcement could come on December 28, which is the birth anniversary of Reliance group's founder Dhirubhai Ambani.

During the day's session, RCOM stock on the BSE jumped to an intra-day high of Rs 144.40, very close to its high in the last one month and closed at Rs 142, up 10.5%. Turnover in the counter was at 64.5 lakh shares, a four-fold jump compared to the last two weeks' average daily figure of 15.3 lakh shares in the counter.

Among other stocks from the group, Reliance Infra closed 3.4% higher at Rs 815, Reliance Power gained 4.8% and closed at Rs 155 and Reliance Capital gained 2.8% to Rs 654. As a result, shareholders in all the R-ADAG companies were richer by nearly Rs 6,000 crore as the combined market capitalisation of the six companies jumped to Rs 1.1 lakh crore.

Compared to the R-ADAG stocks, RIL ended flat, at Rs 1,060, up just 0.1% while Reliance Industrial Infrastructure ended nearly 2% higher at Rs 708.

When contacted, a spokesperson for RIL "strongly denied" the rumours, while a spokesman for the R-ADAG termed it all as market speculation. While the rumours have been there in the market for the last few weeks, RADAG stocks rallied on Friday with the expectation that an announcement will be made soon.

MDA has CASH, more importatntly he has the Vision needed to tap fulll potential of telecom

There is nobody to beat MDA, as far as project implementation (read 4g rollout)

He is the only one who can commoditise premium telecom services, so that it reaches everyone. Will be able to dictate terms to vendors due to the sheer size of the business he will be offering

Last but not the least ,knows how to deal beurocracy and get laws amended

I think MDA will take control of RCOM Towers(It is already a separate company)...

Cash will be used by ADA to reduce debt of RCOM...

LTE enabled data cards are already in the market, US operators like Verizon launched two of such devices! With bulk order from Infotel & more mainstreaming of LTE prices will be dropped! Motorola already rolled out LTE smartphones!

May be tablet PC will be Infotel's main USP with bundled data plans, but it does not mean they will not launch usb dongles & wireless routers!

the blame is not entirely one sided - our govt and security agencies prefer the lazy way to handle tapping issues.

since its an unfunded mandate, they can come up with any arbitrary requirement [can you say blackberry?]

that is not required by the govt of any other major democracy [obviously china is out]

its not like america does not need security or access to communications but they have the infrastructure in place to fully capitalise on intercepting communications which we don't

can any one name a single terrorost caught ONLY due to blackberry or 3g interception?

there is always some supporting evidence that is incriminating...

blocking technology rollout on security grounds is like saying since terrorists can use car bombs, we should ban the sale of any more cars unless GPS tracking is installed for 'security' reasons on ALL vehicles in the country!

Dear Friend, Out of valid anger on our public servants, it's not good to conceal/overturn the truth.

The fact is

PSUs have been asked in the past to stop their 3G services till security agencies were able to monitor the services on real-time. PSUs made arrangement for it and were allowed to resume services.

Govt. has clearly mandated to all service providers to start any service(2G or 3G or 4G or any G)only after it has proven to security agencies that those services can be monitored on real-time.

The current 3G security issue is purely because of inclination of private corporates towards easier method of bending laws through bribing rather than difficult method of respecting and implementing the law of land
