G'Five to launch 3G handsets, smartphones in Q1 2011

5 Jan l The Economic Times l New Delhi

Hong Kong-based G'Five Mobiles on Wednesday said it will launch its portfolio of 3G handsets and smartphones in the first quarter this year to strengthen its presence in India.

The company claims to currently have about 300 models in its existing portfolio in the price range of1,400-6,000.

"We will introduce about 4-5 new 3G handsets and smartphones in this quarter to tap the market. This is a new segment and we will introduce these handsets at competitive prices," Ar**** Pathak, Managing Director of Kingtech Electronics India (a group company of G'Five International) told reporters here.

G'Five, which manufactures most of its handsets in China , also plans to set up a unit in India. "We are in talks with the administration regarding incentives offered for setting up mobile phone manufacturing units in India," Pathak said declining to comment on the timeframe or investment details.

G'Five had a 10.6 per cent market share in terms of shipment for the quarter ended September 30, 2010, according to research firm IDC . It sold 10 million handsets in the year 2010.

The company, which is firming up plans of setting up a research and development unit of 10-20 people, will also introduce devices like tablets and netbooks in the coming days, Pathak said.

I agree GFive is going strong with second position in India and other stuffs.. But their main plus as well as minus is the CLONED DualSIM HANDSETS... GFive E71 is a clone of E71.. Similarly for BB devices and so many phones...

Samsung held the No.2 slot for last 9 months and was displaced by Gfive in the last quarter. I presume, it is some short term fluctuation and that Samsung will reclaim lost ground real soon.

And I was thinking that the MD's name contained profanity and hence cens***d :D
