DoT Allows Prepaid Roaming in Assam and North-East

Recommended Posts

According to an article in telecom talk DOT has permitted prepaid roaming in Assam and North east. Its a very good move and i hope it will be done for J&K also in coming time.

In an attempt to provide greater benefits to mobile users of Assam and North East telecom circles as well as In-Roamers in North East India, The Department of Telecommunication (DoT) has asked Mobile Service operators (CMTS/UAS) to lift the ban on Prepaid Roaming Service in Assam and North East.

Now prepaid mobile subscribers of North East including Assam, Arunachal Pradesh Meghalaya, Manipur, Tripura, Nagaland and Mizoram can Roam all across India except in Jammu & Kashmir circle.

According to DoT circular No. 800-14/2011-VAS, the Prepaid mobile subscribers from other circles across India (except J&K) also can enjoy seamless Roaming in Assam & NE telecom circles.

Earlier the prepaid mobile service users of other telecom circles of India are not allowed Roaming facilities while visiting seven North Eastern states including Assam, Arunachal Pradesh Meghalaya, Manipur, Tripura, Nagaland and Mizoram due to security reasons.

Definitely required move, for far too long the NE has been treated as stepchild with disastrous consequences, alienating the NE has only increased security issues instead of solving them.

It was long due. Terrorism has long been subsided owing to better administration. The law & order situations are much better now and the central Govt. is also promoting tourism in north-eastern states and J&K.

Really a very good move.....

It's important to integrate NE & JK as normal states in our union instead of treating them with special lens just due to security reasons.

Special treatments only alienates them instead of bringing them together with rest of our union.
