Installing The Android Apps Directly On SD Card?

Recommended Posts

Can someone tell me is there any way I can install the Apps directly on the SD card in Froyo?

I know Programs like App2SD allow me to move the Applications from Phone to SD card but I need something which will allow me to install the Apps Directly on SD card since I have less Phone Memory.

ok, googling says u can do that only with a rooted phone.

this link explains 1 trick rooting http://www.addictivetips.com/mobile/how-to-root-android-devices-with-universal-androot-app/

it shows as working for my phone model as well but I am little scared.

any repercussions of rooting ? can we unroot it back incase of any warranty issues ?

@nitink

Apps2SD used to perform that function on Eclair2.1

That was a long process, including rooting & partition of SD card.

Apps2SD :- Please read This and This.

Rooting MileStone :- You already found that

Unrooting :- Read This, This.

I think, rooting can be reversed by flashing the stock rom, for all android phones though different ways of doing the same.

I don't think it should work fine for all devices.

It may do the job for some specific devices, but not all.

Just check This & This, this method is outdated & unsupported.

Its always good to use device specific root/unroot method.

I installed ROM manager but still facing issues. My sd card is 16gb class 2 and it seems ROM Manager Works on class 4 onwards only. Any other solution?

mine is an official version.

used this http://www.addictivetips.com/mobile/how-to-root-android-devices-with-universal-androot-app/

it roots and unroots with just one click. had a hearty laugh when after rooting, i unrooted and the message read - now u r again a slave of ur phone" implying the warranty is back and u can no longer feel the power of android ....ha ha

i just found out an app called Root # All Data2SD card.

https://market.android.com/details?id=rappsd.v1&feature=also_installed

Its free and moreover it states "this tool creates an embedded EXT2 partition to your SD card (no manual formatting/partitioning required) and then it mounts it"

so u don't have 2 worry about creating a partition, the app itself does it...

Auto mount problem with Root # All Data2SD in Incredible

Needs manual mounting at every reboot.

Uninstalled and reverted back
