TATA Teleservices Rebranding: TATA Indicom Users To Be Migrated To TATA Docomo Brand; CDMA Network Upgrades

October 19, 2011

The Hindu

Tata Teleservices Ltd. Wednesday said it will start marketing all its telephone and internet services under the "Tata DoCoMo" brand name from Thursday.

The parent of Tata Teleservices (Maharashtra) Ltd. added that all of its 90 million users across technologies and services will now be moved to the Tata DoCoMo brand.

It said it has consolidated all organizational assets--such as spectrum, retail outlets, digital footprints and consumer franchises--and that the unification of all of its brands will push growth and unlock synergies.

Tata Indicom’s CDMA, GSM, 3G and Photon platforms will now be available under the unified brand Tata Docomo, which makes an entry into the CDMA space with this move, senior company officials told a press conference here on Wednesday.

“Our new business approach gives TTL new strategic direction in the ‘access, content and solutions’ spaces, enabling the company to offer compelling propositions to customers in a market that has been witnessing far-reaching changes in terms of usage trends and customer preferences,” TTL Regional Head (South) Yatish Mehrotra said.

TTL said it is planning significant investments to upgrade its CDMA network to deepen and widen its existing footprint.

TTL also unveiled Photon Max on Tata Docomo, the latest addition to its Photon family of high-speed mobile broadband access products on the CDMA platform, which works on the REV.B platform and offers “extremely fast surfing speeds.”

The company clarified that the migration of services to the unified Tata Docomo brand would happen in Delhi-NCR at a later date. This would not impact TTL’s Indicom, Photon and Walky consumers in Delhi, as they would continue to get the same quality of service as in the past, it said.

The company will migrate all Tata Indicom customers to Tata DOCOMO. The migration is nothing but rebranding and any Tata Indicom subscribers need not to anything to move to Tata DOCOMO.

Mr Deepak Gulati, Executive President, Mobility Business, Tata Teleservices Limited, said, “These are exciting times at TTL and mark the Company’s evolution from being just an access provider to a multi-platform telecom applications and solutions organization, with one single brand—Tata DOCOMO—for customer connect, ease and delight. This is the birth of Telecom 2.0. Our new strategy will unify our brands and unlock the synergies across the CDMA, GSM & 3G platforms. We are pleased to welcome our Tata Indicom customers into the Tata DOCOMO family, offering them a new world of telecom and lifestyle-impacting experiences.”

As a result of this unified branding now all the products of Tata Teleservices will be available through a single retail network. Along with this TTL also announced that it will upgrade CDMA network to unlock next level of data usage. The company will also come up with new CDMA phones, including smartphones.

now the actual war with relince will start....coz tata's gsm arm is much better placed than rgsm......which gives it an edge over the less placed cdma part whr tata was lacking in competiton to relince...on the whole this move can make tata much better than any service provider but internally the cdma wing willl hv to hv a different managment otherwise the cdma part will go as bad as the rgsm is now.....

They are doing it to save Indicom subscribers because Mobile stores have stopped keeping indicom top ups

Now they are forcing Docomo dealers to sell Indicom Top ups and recharges

Cdma and GSM under same umbrella mean greater confusion for customers. Tata docomo is no better than tata.

@kshah; How did you expect Docomo label to be any better. The monkeys on the ground have the same DNA and may (and now will) be the same.
