Recommended Posts

Wow Rajan Ji... Wire Trick is really tricky. But I was successful after 5 attempts.

:)

Going to be on ICS shortly.

Nothing would happen. But if you try to S-OFF after you are on ICS, you will loose everything. Everything would be reset to Original including the SPC.

Thanks for the prompt reply kapil ji...so now if I do the s-off everything will be as it is? Also want to know can I downgrade to GB easily incase I don't like ICS?.

Depends on which hboot you are. If you are above 1.40, than data would be lost in all cases.

S-OFF @ hboot 1.50 & 1.58 is really tricky and might result in bricking of phone.

took the latest OTA to ICS on a rooted evo 3d running mean rom.....since there are contradicting reports on XDA on howto get back to stock and take the OTA (especially there's lot of confusion whether to write secureflag or not), thought i would share my experience of how I did it

I was rooted s-on hboot 1.5 and on the mean rom

1) ran 'fastboot oem lock' by rebooting to bootloader from adb

after this was not able to android boot, always booted to the bootloader which showed 'relocked' with 'security warning'

2) connected device to pc on fastboot mode and ran the 2.17 RUU, which completed succesfully

3) on reboot everything was working , nothing was reset like spc or data settings

4) after this just went to system updates and took the OTA, which got me to the latest ICS build and hboot 1.58

I am on HTC official Dev unlock S-OFF, how about updating? any problem

Let me clarify about S-OFF first ---

HTCdev Bootloader unlock --- Its unlocked S-ON. Means you can flash recovery, system, data & cache partitions. Can not modify boot, hboot.

Revolutionary S-OFF / Engineering S-OFF --- Its S-OFF. Means you can flash recovery, system, data, cache, boot. and normally hboot is not updated since the version number is engineered hboot is much higher than hboot of ROM.

XTC Clip S-OFF / Wire Trick S-OFF -- Its true S-OFF. Means you can flash recovery, system, data, cache, boot. and hboot can be updated and will remain S-OFF. Version number of S-OFF hboot remains the same. Hence the best.

3) on reboot everything was working , nothing was reset like spc or data settings

unlocked S-ON does not change anything nor does the ROM flashing. Do the wire trick S-OFF and see for yourself.

Running Negalite_BluRom 2.0 >> http://d-h.st/lbq

Base is official OTA ICS update + It's having latest Anthrax Kernel by Chad Goodman.

Chad is one very talented kernel dev. This kernel also has linaro toolchains which perhaps explains insane benchmarks.

ROM is fast & smooth. Look at the Quadrants!!! Particularly 2D and 3D. 2D is 1270 which is usually much less than 500 on Stock!

Everything is working, USB Mass Storage, WiFi Tether, 3D..

Some apps are excluded which can be flashed separately >> http://d-h.st/jXJ

Nothing wrong brother. Actually I did not mention how I did S-OFF. I just mentioned S-OFF.

Wow Rajan Ji... Wire Trick is really tricky. But I was successful after 5 attempts.

I had used an unbended UPIN instead of wire. Felt is keeps hands more steady.

BTW i really like the whacky messages which keeps on flashing in Juopunutbear's command window while the process is on..

"Entering Bar"... "One More Beer"...

Yeah right... some consolation when the heart is in mouth knowing that essentially phone is getting bricked and alive again!

Also want to know can I downgrade to GB easily incase I don't like ICS?.

I tried reverting to MeanROM Gingerbread after flashing Official ICS firmware/kernel but gives bootloops. I guess the new firmware/kernel in OTA ICS won't allow gingerbread to work properly. But some guy was able to revert to gingerbread nandroid backup successfully which he took earlier.

S-OFF will still remain in new HBOOT 1.58. Flash official ICS firmware/radio/hboot from here in Step 1 >> http://forum.xda-dev...d.php?t=1808150

Copy the PG86IMG.zip to root of SDCard and reboot to bootloader. It will flash. Don't forget to delete it once you boot in ROM else it will again start when you go to bootloader.

Then flash MeanROM ICS 2.6 which is based on official ICS OTA >> http://forum.xda-dev...d.php?t=1645211

Don't forget to flash Official ICS 2.89 Kernel which is in MeanROM-ICS folder after flashing the ROM as this ROM has old 2.17 kernel built in.

Now on MeanROM ICS (Based on Official ICS OTA). Flashed Chad Goodman's kernel separately.

It's giving awesome battery life while sleeping. Just 1% drop in 14+ hours last night.

Battery life is also awesome on some other functions.

Downloaded 432 MB file on mobile EVDO. Battery % went off just from 56% to 47%.

Not so awesome battery life in other functions like browsing, calls but it's OK.

Guess will have to try & play with different CPU Governer.

First almost full featured CyanogenMod 10 - Android 4.1.1 - Jellybean has arrived. >> http://forum.xda-dev...d.php?t=1873926

This won't boot if you're on latest 1.58HBOOT. Downgrade to one of the older HBOOT.

If you're S-OFF, you don't loose that by downgrading HBOOT.

Newts Awesome Sense 4.1 ROM RLS 2.0.1 released 2 days back. It's based on Evo LTE.

I have enjoyed his past ROM's and they are very good.

You need to be S-OFF for a trouble free experience. This is probaby working on even old bootloaders.

This is an amazing Jellybean ROM for EVO 3D.

The ROM size is just 87MB!!!

Very fluid, responsive and with tons of tweaks & controls.

Rajan ji what a surprise... From last 5 days I am reading various posts on xda to root my evo3d so tht I can use custom ROM.

Unfortunately I have updated to ICS without S-OFF and now only way I see is Wiretrick :-(

I believe I will loose all the things and all the parameters I have to programme again. RIght??

I dont have A-Key. :-(

But your post is tempting me to go ahead :-)

Yes. Phone programming parameters will be wiped & will have to be re-programmed after doing S-OFF through wiretrick.

Now base ROMs appear to be slimmer but after installing GAPPS, it goes to ~200 mb.
