Tutorial: How To Change Sprint Banner To Reliance On Motorola Photon 4G

Recommended Posts

Guys,

I'm a Photon user and I was facing few problems related to Banners / Carrier Name on my photon like even after flashing NAM/PRL, it only shows "Sprint" as Network Name and not "Reliance".

Did so many R&D on this and finally I've made a file for the same which shows Reliance.

How to:

1. Your phone must be Rooted.(If not Google on How to)

2. Download the attached zip file & extract it.

3. Copy & Paste the eri.xml (attached) file on Internal Storage

4. Open Root Explorer or any other file explorer you use.

5. Copy the eri.xml (attached) file.. (Long press on file and select copy)

6. Paste it in "/data" folder of Root of your file system.

7. Now long press the eri.xml file and tap permission and select all check boxes. Give it full permission.

8. Exit the Root Explorer

9. Restart your phone

Voila.. Your phone will now show... "Reliance" as Carrier Name

nJoy...

It will work but Will show Sprint as well...

As Photon 4G is Sprint branded, it picks Carrier name from Local file and from PRL/NAM

You can see in Network Selection Mode it shows

1. Sprint only

2. Any CDMA

3. GSM

4. Automatic

As of now CDMA-UIM are not properly working on Photon so we have to use it with flashed NAM/PRL. And that carrier name will be picked up from local resources only...i.e Sprint

Ok guys,

I'm back with some new tweaks and tricks.

As far as I know, people who are using Photon on Reliance might get "MIP Error 67 - Registration Resonse Error" on their photon programmed by Gurus.

I've a simple solution for this.

How to:

TURN AEROPLANE / FLIGHT MODE ON

1. Your phone must be Rooted.(If not Google on How to)

2. Download the attached zip file & extract it.

3. Copy & Paste the libmoto_ril.so (attached) file on Internal Storage

4. Open Root Explorer or any other file explorer you use.

5. Copy the libmoto_ril.so (attached) file.. (Long press on file and select copy)

6. Go to System / Lib and rename the existing libmoto_ril.so to libmoto_ril.so.bak

7. Paste the copied file in/System/Lib and set the permissions rw- r-- r--

8. Reboot and enjoy

TURN AEROPLANE / FLIGHT MODE OFF

Now Error GONE... ;)

build.prop Edits

This will significantly increase battery life by stabilizing data connection.

ro.mot.eri.losalert.delay=1000 (or simply play with this value for best results )

Update these lines

persist.ril.uart.flowctrl=20

ro.ril.gprsclass=32

I'm stock firmware and using the same settings...

Soon you'll see these settings on future ICS/JB builds for photon.. as I'm working with Th3Bill on JB Builds for our beloved Photon 4G.. :)

Thanks for the tutorial!!!

Saw it as soon as you had posted it, but felt lazy to work on it. Today I once again saw your latest tutorial and then thought, let me take the plunge.

All Done, but the carrier name now says, "Roaming Indicator Off"

I have followed your instructions to the T, something else I did wrong?

My mobile is rooted, I used ES File explorer to extract, copy, paste eri.xml to \data and mark all the 9 permissions (6 of read and write were already marked, I had to tick the remaining 3 of execute).

Any ideas?

All operations are normal - voice, data, sms, mails, browsing etc

P.S.: in your new tutorial, MIP Error for me shows 98 - missing_home_agent. I have not put into effect your guide so far as you have shown MIP Error 67.

And yes, are the gray lines also to be done by us? Or are you referring to the tutorial? If we do have to go the gray and the red lines, procedure?

Finally Congrats and All the Best for Th3Bill on JB Builds for Photon4G.

I had the same issue of Roaming Indicator Off... its problem of eri.xml is not detected property ...

Try to do it once again after a fresh reboot...

I'm using it since beginning without an issue..

Okay, here I am with some more info

For those who wants to use Indian market without unlock market code

Add/update these lines in build.prop

ro.cdma.home.operator.numeric=40000(I'm using 40506 for gujarat)

ro.cdma.home.operator.alpha=Reliance

Clear market data

Reboot

Run market

Enjoy

But always keep a copy of your build.prop before modifying

As you might have to revert back for OTA as it might fail your OTA updates.
