Anyone tested EVDO Rev B it in Chennai?

I saw the commercials for MTS Ultra and Tata Photon Max and at first it seemed to me that they are using Rev. B but now I am a bit confused. Tata Photon Max(with inbuilt WiFi) is giving a maximum down rate of 6.2 Mbps, exactly double of Rev. A while MTS Ultra is somewhere around 9.8 Mbps. As far as I know Rev B is supposed to provide 14.7 Mbps down rate. So what kind of technology are these two using? And will Reliance follow suit?

With Rev B Phase II each 1.25MHz spectrum channel can offer speed upto 4.9Mbit/s downlink. So using 3 channels operators can offer upto 14.7Mbit/s.

MTS uses 2 channels, hence 9.8Mbit/s on their 3GPlus network. They put their 3rd 1.25MHz channel for voice calls.

Tata uses Rev B Phase I technology, hence 3.1Mbit/s x2 = 6.2Mbit/s downlink.

Reliance Communication Brings Mumbai, Pune & Hyderabad under Pro 3 Network:---

Reliance Communications has silently expanded their CDMA Rev B phase II services, Pro 3 to three new metros – Mumbai, Pune & Hyderabad. Initially the service was limited to Bangalore & Chennai.

Unlike MTS (Ultra offers up to 9.8Mbps) & Tata Docomo (Photon Max offers upto 6.2Mbps), Reliance Pro 3 is using 3 carriers to boost the downlink upto 14.7 Mbps.

Rcom was the pioneer of CDMA technology in India, they launched Rev A based Netconnect+ – first 3rd generation mobile broadband in India. However that was during Mukesh Ambani’s leadership. Later Ambani brothers split & broke up the Reliance empire. Younger brother Anil took the charge of Rcom.

Rcom entered into GSM segment in 2006-2007 and following that their CDMA business was heavily compromised. It’s good to see that Rcom is pushing data over CDMA platform too.

Benefits for EVDO Rev. B Users:

> High Data Rates – Downlink speed up to 14.7Mbps and Upload speed upto 5.4Mbps

> Very Low Average Latency – Increases connectivity between browser and web page server

> Data Traffic Regulation – Base Station Towers can handle more users along with exciting REV. A in particular Cell

> Advanced QoS – More packets can be transferred with in particular limit resulting increasing download speed by 2x
