No 3G while national roaming?

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I have been suffering from the same problem with national roaming for 3G services for several weeks now.
I am living in Bhubaneswar and I have a prepaid reliance mobile sim card for my Apple iPhone 5 with the following 3G pack activated: 1GB for 30 days at Rs 255 (http://www.rcom.co.in/Rcom/personal/3G/HTML/PrepaidDataPacksUSB.html)
It works perfectly while I am in my home town, Bhubaneswar (Orissa). However, when I am outside of Orissa, my 3G is not working, although calls and text message are no problem at all. My phone shows the following notification while trying to access internet: " Could not activate cellular data network. You are not subscribed to a cellular data service." I do not understand why I get this message, as I was told my 3G pack is supposed to work all over India!
I have had this problem while travelling to Visakhapatnam, to Mumbai and to Delhi, all outside of my home state (Orissa). I called with the Reliance customer service several times already. They told me every time it is supposed to work without any problem.
Last week while calling to the customer service, they told me I had to change my APN in my internet settings from smartnet to rcomwap. That might have been the reason for this problem, so I agreed to try that. However, that wasn't a solution to my problem either. I tried with different possibilities for the APN: leaving it blank (like I use it while at home in Orissa), smartnet, rcomwap and rcomnet. None of them was working, so this wasn't a solution to the problem!
So now I would like to have a solution for this problem. Does anyone know what can be the reason that this doesn't work? Because it seems the Reliance customer service cannot help me with this problem..

Could it be related to the fact that my activated 3G pack is focused on "Broadband on USB Data Cards"? And could it be possible that this problem can be solved by recharging with a 3G pack that is focused on "Broadband on Mobile Phone / Phone-as-a-modem"?

I really hope someone can help me with this! Thanks!!

If reliance has 3G licence in the roaming region which you are visiting then 3g will work. but 2g is working or not. just tryfor 2g by changing the APN

I suppose Reliance has licence in Mumbai and Delhi?

However, nor 3G or 2G was working with every possible APN I tried!

Reliance GSM on Odisha is provided by RTL. In Mumbai and Delhi its provided by RCL. Different company. But try the APN : RCOM.NET or RCOMNET - should work. I have a 3G RGSM SIM in Delhi and have got 3G in Kolkata and Mumbai.

:previous:

I tried RCOMNET and that one didn't work. However, I haven't tried RCOM.NET because I didn't know that one was supposed to work too.

Are you sure it is only a problem regarding the APN??
