Tutorial for rooting & enabling hotspot on droid RazrM (even after jellybean update)

ROOT METHOD

The method of rooting is pretty simple:

1 First make sure you have the current Motorola USB drivers installed from here.

2 Than download one of this files and extract it

root ICS with superuser download http://www.mediafire...ppqe4yrdpy3x2z6
Root ICS with SuperSU download http://www.mediafire...dlpmf73qlax8aqj
root JB with superuser download http://www.mediafire...d1pz1xfnxni26go
root JB with SuperSU download http://www.mediafire...3ellso8gnb3w83m

3 Double click on adb.exe

4 Connect your phone to the PC and click on the "run.bat" file that you extracted.

5 It is important to follow the instructions in the PC program, as it will ask you to press a button combination of the Volume UP and Power at the same time

6 If you have to wipe data and cache, go into stock recovery by pressing and holding volume-up and down and power at the same time for about 15 seconds, than you will get a droid dude on its back with a caution sing, you have to hold volume down and tap volume up to get to the recovery menu. This is different than pressing both volume buttons at that same time.

Enabling hotspot

Now comes the tricky part on enabling wifi hotspot on our razr M as many of us are missing this wonderfull handset because verizon has disabled this feature specially if you are on jelly bean even foxfi wont work.

Install sqlite editor from playstore its paid version but you can get it for free if u know how to google it

open SQLite Editor and navigate to:
"Settings Storage : com.motorola.android.providers.settings" (the icon is a red and white hammer and wrench)
then:

"settings.db"

then:

"settings"
then:
_id 67 "entitlement check"
Once there, change "value" field from "1" to "0" (this is the only step different from the original process, where the _id was 150).ion will

Now restart your phone and your inbuilt hotspot application will work flawlessly

(do it at your own risk and make sure you dont change any other settings other then "entitlement check" location 67 may change if you are on ics)

This method for enabling hotspot should work on droid razr, razrr maxx.droid 4 only the entitlement check location is different.

What is the right sequence of step 5 n 6(rooting) ?I mean can we need clear cache n wipe data before starting the rooting process or we should do it after step 5?Is it compulsory to do wipe data n cache clean step?

:previous:

Thanks for the clarification. But Cache clean n data wipe should be done before starting the rooting procedure or just after the step 5?
