  • Very slim design, and amazingly lightweight
  • Android never felt faster!
  • Good camera
  • Excellent battery life

Cons

  • Plasticky build is a huge disappointment
  • TouchWiz 4.0 UI isn’t feature rich or polished like the HTC Sense

HTC Salsa - the Facebook phone - now available online in India at Rs. 20,399

Looks like HTC is continuing its trend of releasing phones in India soon after their global launches, with the HTC Salsa, one of the two famous Facebook phones from the company, now officially available for pre-order on the online retail site - Letsbuy.com. Customers can expect delivery in 4-7 working days, at the time of writing.

Once called the Facebook phone, along with the yet missing QWERTY HTC ChaCha, the HTC Salsa offers one-touch options throughout the interface to post/update/check information on Facebook, all to allow for ‘instant sharing’ as HTC calls it. All this with the Facebook button, visible below the screen, in the image below...

Priced a little too high at Rs. 20,399 (bundled with a 2GB microSD card), the HTC Salsa has a 800MHz processor (not the 600MHz config we were expecting), 512 MB of RAM, and should come with at least Android 2.3 Gingerbread onboard – when we’d last officially heard of the device, it was supposed to come with Android 2.4, or another name for the almost mythical and still unseen Android Ice Cream OS. Of course, HTC Sense UI is skinned over the OS. The Salsa has a 3.4-inch capacitive touch screen with 480 x 320 resolution, as well as a 5MP camera with auto-focus and flash. Prices will hopefully fall to Samsung Ace levels soon after the phone hits retail shelves.

Other specs of the phone include a weight of 120 grams; 3G (HSDPA 7.2Mbps, HSUPA 384Kbps)/GPS (with A-GPS)/Wi-Fi (802.11 b/g/n)/GPRS (with EDGE)/Bluetooth (v3.0) connectivity; 512MB of storage expandable to 32GB via microSD card; a 1520 mAh battery rated to deliver up to 585 minutes of talktime, and 456 hours of standby time; a VGA front camera; g-sensor, digital compass, proximity sensor, and ambient light sensor.

Nokia aggressively prices the E6 at Rs. 17,999, lists it for pre-order

The Nokia E6 business phone is a Symbian Anna-based QWERTY device that also has a touchscreen, one that has a pixel density of 326ppi, far exceeding that of the iPhone 4’s famous Retina Display, albeit on a smaller 2.46-inch (640x480) display. It has an 8MP camera with dual LED flash and an EDoF sensor (capable of 720p HD recording), the same as the Nokia E7, 265MB of RAM and 1GB of ROM, 8GB of internal storage, and, a massive 1,500 mAh battery that promises up to 14 hours of talk time. For now however, no processor details are known about the device.

After the cost, the other dis-advantages are Lack of Hardware_Soft_Keys and LCD_Touch (NOT AMOLED) screen... Otherwise this phone is ok-ok type with VGA screen (640x480), 1500mAh battery, slim and beautiful, Comes with JoikuSpot_Premium (first S60 phone to come with) for WiFi tethering..

Samsung Galaxy S II versus HTC Sensation: battle of the dual-core droids

well still after that comparision chart SGS 2 seems better ahead of htc's sensation, better overall configured handset to own at approx 30K price range.Super Amoled screen, better front facing camera, better battery life. One thing i have heard from few owners from other forums is the plastic quality which would be better for the price they are paying.

Samsung to launch new low-cost dual SIM QWERTY device - Ch@t 222

Samsung has announced it will be launching the Ch@t 222 dual SIM QWERTY phone in India, at around Rs. 3,500. Very similar to its predecessors, the Ch@t 222 has the same 2.2-inch screen and QWERTY layout as the Ch@t 322.

Pricing the non-3G phone so low, Samsung has decided to do away with the Ch@t 322's 1.3MP camera, and provide a VGA camera instead (video recording available). The phone has no EDGE connectivity either, and gone is the optical trackpad. There are some advantages however - the addition of FM recording, and up to 16GB of microSD storage, instead of 8GB.

Samsung has also promised a rather large battery life, with the 1000 mAh battery rated to deliver up to 12 hours of talktime, and 550 hours of standby time - all of which is perfect if you are the chatty type. The phone, like its Ch@t brethren, will come with a variety of IM, social networking, and email widgets onboard. The Ch@t 222 will be available on shelves soon.

previous.gif A "chat" phone without even EDGE?? It will simply be really frustrating. And removed the trackpad too, which was an important advantage. Nokia X2-01 seems a better option now.

Sony Ericsson announces Xperia Ray, Xperia Active

Source

First in line was the Sony Ericsson Xperia ray, which previously had leaked under various monikers, like ST18i, Urushi and Azusa. This one has a whiff of the Xperia arc, since it is pretty thin, at 0.37" (9.4mm), and very light at 3.53oz (100g), and also sports the same 8MP Exmor R camera sensor and LED flash with a 1GHz Qualcomm chipset.

The Xperia ray brings the screen down to 3.3", though, with the pretty good for this size 480x854 pixels of resolution and Mobile Bravia Engine shenanigans. The phone is running the latest Android 2.3 Gingerbread and will be available in select locations in Q3 of this year in black, gold, white and pink. Good thing is that it also sports a front-facing camera, unlike the arc, and it comes with a 4GB microSD card in the box.

The second smartphone piqued our interest, though - it is called the Sony Ericsson Xperia active, and, as the name suggests, is targeting the outdoorsman in you. It's a 3-incher, with 320x480 pixels of resolution and scratch-resistant display (aren't they all) that is allegedly able to accurately track your fingers even when wet. This hints at the biggest added value of the Xperia active - it is waterproof up to three feet (1m) for up to 30 minutes.

To complement the water- and dustproof sealing, the company throws in a couple of extra sensors like compass and barometer, as well as apps like iMapMyFitness, Personal Trainer, Pulse Watch and Pedometer plus "torch functionality". The cool thing is that а 5MP camera capable of HD video with LED light found its way in the waterproof housing as well, so the Xperia active will capture those 720p videos under water you've always missed on the Motorola DEFY. This one also comes with Gingerbread and will be outed in Q3, with white or orange band, and black battery cover. There is a replacement soft-touch white battery cover in the box, 2GB microSD card, and it also comes with a wristband and arm case for all the joggers out there.

Huawei Glory Coming To Cricket Wireless, Brings 1.4GHz And Gingerbread For Under $300

Source

Normally, when we think about prepaid carriers, one thought comes to mind: low-end devices. Most manufacturers reserve their higher-end handsets for the Big Four, so those who don't want to empty their wallet each month on a wireless plan end up with very little to choose from when it comes to decent phones. However, that is all about to change with Huawei's upcoming Glory phone, which is set to land on Cricket Wireless this November.

01425i262029sz100_thumb1.jpg01425i262024sz100_thumb.jpg

The Glory packs a pretty hard punch, especially compared to its prepaid competitors: a 1.4GHz Qualcomm MSM8655T processor, 4-inch 480×854 TFT display, 8MP camera, and Android 2.3 – all for under $300. To add to the allure of this phone, Huawei has only tweaked the stock Android UI a bit – adding custom animations, some custom widgets, and a slightly customizable app drawer.

The goodness doesn't stop there, however, as Huawei also made it a point to note that the Glory will be upgraded to Ice Cream Sandwich in 2012, though we'll have to wait and see if that actually happens.

Sony Ericsson Txt social networking QWERTY phone announced for Q3 2011

Source.

Sony Ericsson also announced a new QWERTY device, the Txt, along with its Gingerbread-based Xperia Ray and Xperia Active phones. Meant for social-networking and instant messaging fiends, the Sony Ericsson Txt bears a 2.6-inch display without touch, and is based on a proprietary operating system.

Though it is not part of the Xperia range, SE says it has some features inspired by them, and from what we can see in the image below, some of the UI flavour has certainly been carried over.

For now, Sony Ericsson has not revealed too many details about the Txt. It will be available in Q3 of 2011, supports Wi-Fi, and has a 3.2MP camera. An optical trackpad might also be part of the deal.

SE has visibly also added a SMS Shortcut key to the keypad for quick messaging. A native app called ‘friends’ will also be available, which will allow users to track and interact with five contacts on Facebook and Twitter. Based on its specs, the device should hopefully be available in the sub Rs. 10K range when it releases.

Nokia announces new dual SIM, Series 40 Touch and Type devices

Source.

Nokia-C2-03-615.jpg

Nokia has introduced three new Series 40 devices, all part of the Touch & Type C2 series – C2-02, C2-03, and C2-06. In terms of form factors and features, all three devices are nearly identical, with the C2-02 as the odd-one out, for not being a dual-SIM device.

The two quad-band dual SIM dual standby devices, the C2-03 and C2-06, have the same Easy Swap feature, or a hot swappable SIM card slot, as the Nokia C2-00. The only difference between the C2-03 and C2-06 is that the latter comes in a different colour scheme. As for the pricing, the C2-02 and C2-03 phones are expected to start at 75 Euros, or roughly Rs. 4,800, and C2-06 is expected at 80 Euros, or roughly Rs. 5,200.

Common features to all three Touch & Type devices, include a 2.6-inch 240x320 pixel 65K colour resistive touchscreen with handwriting recognition, a 2MP camera with QCIF quality video recording, 10MB storage with microSD expandability up to 32GB (2GB card bundled), GPRS/EDGE connectivity, Bluetooth v2.1 with A2DP, microUSB 2.0, FM radio with recording, and a 1020 mAh battery that’s rated to deliver up to 400 hours of standby time, 5 hours of talk time, and 37 hours of music play time.

The three Series 40 phones come with Nokia’s new browser, which compresses data to be faster and more cost-efficient; as well as new Nokia Maps, preloaded. Offline location search is also available on Nokia Maps. Check out a video below showing off the three devices:

Not sure where to post it but here it is, Samsung is on a roll.

Samsung breaks records with Galaxy S II, sells 3 million in 55 days

Source.

The Samsung Galaxy S II has been an immensely popular phone with both critics and users ever since its release nearly two months ago, and now, we are seeing some numbers to back up that statement. Samsung has announced it has managed to sell 3 million Galaxy S II phones in the 55 days that have elapsed since launch, going ahead and breaking Samsung's own product sale records. Doing some quick math, that comes down to nearly 50,000 devices being sold each day, the world over.

Talk about no supply problem and product shortages! Samsung also revealed that the most phones sold were in the European territories. All this, without the Galaxy S II being sold in one of the world's biggest markets for smartphones and Apple's primary target for the bestselling iPhone - the United States of America. Truly astounding...

We won't be surprised if the device manages to break the original Galaxy S phone's (and its family's) total sales records, very soon. Speaking of families, Samsung also recently introduced a low-cost version of the Galaxy S II, called the Galaxy Z, which is surprisingly well-endowed for a cheaper alternative.

Samsung Galaxy Z to arrive soon, the cheaper Galaxy S II substitute

Source.

Source.

Samsung%20Galaxy%20Z.jpg

With the same design as the Galaxy S II i9100, the Galaxy Z i9103 features near identical specifications, apart from a different, smaller display; a slower dual-core processor; less inbuilt storage; and a lower quality camera.

The Samsung Galaxy Z has a 4.2-inch Super LCD display instead of the S II’s 4.3-inch Super AMOLED Plus offering; comes with a Nvidia Tegra 2 1GHz dual-core processor instead of the 1.2GHz Exynos dual-core processor; features 8GB of inbuilt storage in place of the 16GB and 32GB offerings; and, has a 5MP 720p HD camera instead of the 8MP 1080p HD camera.

The device is also not as slim as the SII, wider at its slimmest by about 1 mm, at 9.5 mm. Not shabby at all for a cheaper alternative to the current-gen top-end offering, but of course, a price figure would help that assessment.

29mubno.jpg

As it has a Tegra 2 dual-core processor, we don’t expect it to retail at the Galaxy S i9003’s price level of course, but enough to become a serious option for potential i9003 purchasers. The Galaxy Z has been announced at an pre-order price of 3995 Swedish kronor (roughly Rs. 28,000).

However, while the pricing details haven’t been announced yet, we believe it will be very tricky for Samsung to price this phone perfectly. If they price the Galaxy Z around Rs 23-25k, then it’ll hurt the sales of the original Galaxy S (i9000), and make the S II look like an over-priced smartphone. If this one is priced anymore than Rs 25k, then the S II may just feel the pinch, since people may say that this one is almost as powerful for quite a bit less, let us buy it instead. Depends on which smartphone Samsung wants to see get hurt, more!
