Karbonn releases 3G-enabled low-cost Android phone at Rs. 6,999 - Karbonn A1

Source.

Karbonn has launched its first Android-based handset in India, the Karbonn A1. Priced at Rs. 6,999, it joins the ranks of low-cost Android handsets from companies like Micromax, Spice, and Huawei. Like the Huawei Ideos U8150 and the new Micromax Andro A70, the Karbonn A1 comes with a capacitive touchscreen.

The Karbonn A1’s most remarkable features are its connectivity options, which include 3G (7.2Mbps HSDPA) and GPS, as well as Wi-Fi hotspot functionality, apart from Bluetooth. Running Android 2.2 Froyo, the Karbonn A1 has a 2.8-inch display (resolution unknown), a 600MHz processor, a 3.2MP camera, a 3.5mm audio jack, and expandable microSD storage up to 32GB.

Also onboard is SWYPE text input functionality, as well as various bundled apps, such as Bollywoodji, Saavn Music, and Tune Wiki.

Karbonn is looking to get behind the popular Android platform in a big way in India, and apart from strongly promoting the A1, it intends to launch three other Android phones shortly. Let us hope it manages to deliver usable and well-built devices at prices that trigger even greater adoption of Android in India, providing choice in a still rather empty low-cost market.

Huawei's Vision coming to India in December.. With Cloud Computing..

Source

Besides Android Gingerbread 2.3 OS, Huawei Vision will feature a 1 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, a 5 megapixel camera, Bluetooth 2.1, WiFi and a 3D interface.

2275_1.jpg

Huawei, a network equipment and handset maker, will launch its cloud computing-based Android smartphone this December in India. The smartphone, called Vision, will have a 3D user interface and carousel animation display.

"Huawei vision will be launched in the fourth quarter in India and we have still not finalised its price," Anand Narang, marketing director of Huawei Devices, told 'The Mobile Indian'.

Huawei Vision will run on Android Gingerbread 2.3 and will be supported by a 1 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon MSM 8255 processor.

The cloud computing feature of Vision will allow users to download applications without the need for much storage space on their devices as data would be stored on servers rather than on the mobile memory, and will be accessible over the mobile internet or WiFi.

Anand further said, "Vision will not come locked with any telecom operator. Instead it will be bundled with free data usage plans from multiple operators. By this we plan to encourage Indian consumers to experience internet and data services on mobiles."

Vision has an aluminium alloy uni-body in rose, gold, silver or charcoal, and a curve touch design. It supports 720p video recording and features a 5 megapixel auto focus camera with LED flash.

On the connectivity front it has Bluetooth 2.1 with A2DP, WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, and messaging capabilities including SMS, MMS, email, push mail and IM.

Huawei Vision has a 3D mobile phone interface that bundles handset features into 3D panels on the home screen. The interface allows you to select any panel of the home screen with one swipe and makes it easy to prioritize the application view.

The device will come installed with popular games — Angry Birds, Asphalt 6: Adrenaline, Order and Chaos Online, and Guerrilla Bob HD.

On the availability of Huawei phones in retail outlets, Anand said, "As of now we have tie ups with 10 multibrand outlets in India and by the time we launch Huawei Vision we would have tied up around 35 multibrand outlets across the country."

RIM unveils five new BlackBerry 7 handsets, launching with 225 partners worldwide

Canadian mobile giant RIM has announced its latest line of BlackBerry Bold and Torch smartphones, introducing a total of five devices that will all be powered by the company’s latest BlackBerry 7 OS.

The smartphone vendor will roll out two new BlackBerry Bold models – the 9900 and 9930 – each sporting a large keyboard and touch display.

BlackBerry-Torch-9810.jpeg

The BlackBerry Bold 9900 will be RIM’s thinnest BlackBerry yet, with a thickness of just 10.5mm, and will be the flagship device to combine a keyboard with a touchscreen display inside BlackBerry’s Bold unique design.

The Bold 9900 and 9930 will launch with full support for Near Field Communications (NFC), which will allow smartphone owners to pair their accessories, read tags and make payments in the near future. Both will combine a keyboard and touch display, with the 9900 including a brushed stainless steel frame.

RIM also unveiled and three BlackBerry Torch models – the 9810, 9850 and the 9860. The Torch 9810 sports a 3.2-inch high-resolution display, a slide-out keyboard and launches as a small upgrade to the Torch line. However, the new BlackBerry Torch 9850 and 9860 smartphones will include the biggest screens ever on a BlackBerry device, shipping with a 3.7-inch touch display.

The devices are optimised for web use and social interaction, as well as delivering powerful gaming experiences. They will also supports HD recording at 720p, including A 5-megapixel, zero-shutter lag photo camera.

BlackBerry-Torch-9850-and-9860-smartphones.jpeg

All devices will be powered by a 1.2GHz processor paired with 768MB of RAM.

Of course with the five new smartphones comes the release of BlackBerry 7 OS. The platform has been upgraded to deliver faster web browsing, deliver Liquid GraphicsTM technology with each smartphone coupling a dedicated graphics CPU and processor to deliver smooth graphics.

BlacBerry Messenger gets an upgrade, incorporating BBM within third-party applications, updated social feeds and a new Facebook client to allow smartphone owners to keep up with their friends in real time.

RIM adds:

BlackBerry 7 OS also includes a number of other pre-loaded applications and integrated functionality for increased productivity and collaboration right out of the box. The Premium version of Documents To Go is now included free of charge, offering users powerful document editing features as well as a native PDF document viewer. BlackBerry® Protect is also pre-loaded**, offering customers the peace of mind that personal data can be backed up and secured in the cloud. BlackBerry® Balance (announced May 2, 2011) is now integrated in BlackBerry 7, allowing users to enjoy the full BlackBerry smartphone experience for both work and personal purposes without compromising the IT department’s need for advanced security and IT controls. And further, the popular universal search capability has been enhanced with support for voice-activated search, so users can now simply speak to begin searching their device and the web for information.

Each device is expected to become available later this month, helped by 225 carriers worldwide.

RIM launches BlackBerry Bold 9900 smartphone in India at Rs. 32,490

Source.

RIM launched the BlackBerry Bold 9900, also known as the Bold Touch 9900, at a conference in New Delhi today. Priced rather extravagantly at Rs. 32,490, the Bold Touch 9900 is the first of the three new BlackBerry smartphones we saw last week, all featuring RIM’s latest operating system – BlackBerry 7 OS, as well as a speedy single-core 1.2GHz processor, and 768MB of RAM.

At that price, the BlackBerry Bold 9900 competes with other top-end phones in the market, from the Samsung Galaxy S II and HTC Sensation to the iPhone 4. We wonder if all the new features will sway Android and iOS fans the BlackBerry way. The phone’s touchscreen plus QWERTY form factor gets the best of both worlds, featuring RIM’s famous BlackBerry keypad, and a 2.8-inch transmissive display that is touted as a 24-bit high res display, with a resolution of 640x480 pixels – working out to a super dense 287 ppi.

The Bold Touch 9900 comes with a 5MP camera onboard capable of 720p HD video recording, 3G/Wi-Fi/GPS/Bluetooth/microUSB/NFC connectivity, an optical trackpad, a document editor, 8GB of built-in storage space, and a 1230 mAh battery capable of delivering nearly 13 days of standby time, and 6.5 hours of talk time.

At a glance, the BlackBerry Bold Touch 9900 is quite similar to the Nokia E6, with an identical form factor, and a high-resolution display. While the price difference is quite massive, it will not be fair to compare the Bold Touch 9900 and E6 in terms of cost, with the former in a different league of hardware configurations. But has RIM still made a mistake pricing the Bold 9900 so high?

Called slim and stylish by Motorola, the three feature phones bear Motorola’s proprietary operating system, not Android, and support dual-SIM of the GSM-GSM type. All three phones are available at select outlets in select cities in India.

Motorola EX119: The biggest difference between the EX119 and EX109, is that it bears a 2.4-inch capacitive touchscreen in addition to the QWERTY keypad, similar to the Android-based Motorola Charm. iPhone 5 on Sprint in mid October

Rumors on the net about it..

It appears that Sprint, one of the “big four” carriers in the USA to NOT have gotten their hands on any version of the iPhone thus far, will be amongst those lucky 3 (T-Mobile still not included) that are able to sell the next-generation device come October. It’s the Wall Street Journal that’s reporting their sources “familiar with the matter” that Sprint will be supplied with the iPhone 5 (or whichever iPhone is the most current at the time) alongside Verizon and AT&T. Meanwhile Sprint stock has jumped considerably today (see image inside post below) in light of the news.

verizon-iphone-4-review-24-slashgear-580x326.jpg

The Wall Street Journal article has a bit of information that contradicts a story from earlier today in which Rueters reports a September launch for the next-gen iPhone. According to the Wall Street Journal’s sources, a mid-October launch will be “later than expected”. Either way it appears that several name-brand sources are reporting SOME sort of iPhone upgrade inside 2011, and sooner than later if we’re lucky.

That same Rueters report sends word that Asian suppliers to Apple are gearing up for a brand new version of the iPhone 4, one that this time will be slightly less expensive out of the gate because of its lowered 8GB internal storage. Could this be the Sprint version, or does it make more sense to you that this version would be released alongside the full-sized version like all other devices are marketed? We’ve also got word this morning that the iPhone 5 could be a dual-mode GSM/CDMA world phone – this on top of the 4G LTE iPhone 5 story should just about round out our collection of every single different possible configuration for the device under the sun. Release em all!
