Samsung Galaxy Golden Android flip phone launched in India at Rs. 51,900

galaxy-golden-launch-big.jpg

Samsung has finally launched the much-awaited flip phone in the Indian market, the Galaxy Golden, pricing it at Rs. 51,900. The device doesn't seem to have it store shelves yet however, and Samsung has not announced precise availability.

Flipkart is taking pre-orders for the smartphone however, at a price of Rs. 49,900. The South Korean giant first introduced the flip phone for the Korean market in August this year and said then it would be released in other markets soon after.

The Samsung Galaxy Golden sports two 3.7-inch Super AMOLED displays, on the inside and the outside of the top-half. The phone is powered by a dual-core 1.7GHz processor (unspecified chipset) along with 1.5GB of RAM, and runs Android 4.2 Jelly Bean. The phone also includes FM radio and will come in Champagne Gold colour. Connectivity options include Wi-Fi, GPS / A-GPS and Bluetooth.

For now, there is no official word on 3G connectivity, though third-party sites do list it, and at the price, we can assume. The Galaxy Golden comes with an 8-megapixel rear camera and also includes a 1.9-megapixel front-facing camera. It includes 16GB of inbuilt storage which is expandable up to 64GB via microSD card. It packs 1820mAh battery, with no word on talktime and standby time.

The Samsung Galaxy Golden also comes with features such as Easy Mode, which features large fonts and icons that enables the users to access and search apps, and Hidden Receiver, which allows users to take calls without opening the flip phone.

Commenting on the launch, Vineet Taneja, Country Head, Samsung Mobiles and IT said, "At Samsung, we are committed to making lives easier and smarter for our customers and GALAXY Golden does exactly that. With its innovative dual display and premium golden finish, GALAXY Golden brings together the best of touch and type experience on a smartphone. This specially crafted device is aimed at consumers seeking seamless integration of stunning classic design and functionality to make their lives more efficient."

May be since Sammy has given two screens, two cameras, dual core processor in this phone, it has also priced it twice its worth...

Thank god they have been using plastic in their flagship phones, else the price of s4 and note 2 will be around 99000 and 89000 respectively (if the gold like appearance is the reason for the premium price of this mid range phone)...

HTC UK has just announced the Gramohorn II, an unusual 3D-printed speaker dock for the HTC One. This audio enhancer looks like a modern art interpretation of the classic gramophone speakers used in the past. It was created by the British designer Justin Wolter during HTC's “Here's to Creativity” campaign, which celebrates the company's 17 years of "innovation and breakthrough in the mobile industry".

MOTO G (from Motorola) @ <15000/- (soon to be launched)

source (full article)

Motorola is promising that Moto G will be unlike any other smartphone in the market. The key feature of the phone is its low price. TheIndian price is expected to be less than Rs 15,000. But in terms of hardware and software features, the phone is ahead of similarly-priced Android or Windows Phone devices sold by companies like Samsung, Nokia, LG, Sony and HTC.

Moto G has a 4.5-inch screen with 720P HD resolution, a quad-core processor running at 1.2GHz, 8GB internal storage (16GB version also available), 1GB RAM, 5MP primary camera and a 1.3MP front camera. Punit Soni, Motorola VP for product management, claimed that Moto G will be faster than Samsung Galaxy S4, a premium phone, in many tasks because it runs a largely unmodified version of Android.

"Moto G costs less than one third of the price of Galaxy S4 and Apple iPhone 5S. Yet, it outperforms these devices in many tasks," said Woodside.

If its true, then it will surely force Sammy to bring the prices of its mid-end phones down a bit, imho..

It's a great relief to see Google led Motorola bringing the winds of change, where every other key player is only attempting to raise price of upcoming device by increasing hardware specs. HTC one mini and iPhone 5c could have done this but.........

Moto g will force others to rethink their product/price strategy as this is challenging even to fast growing Chinese major Lenovo.

linux OS in phone?

Winocm could run linux on iphone 4 using openiboot, but this is not the best thing ever.

But the only useful thing you can boot with openiboot is on the supported devices (iPod touch 1g, iPhone 2g and iPhone 3g)

Now I can get booting Ubuntu 9.10 and Openmoko SHR on my old iPod Touch 1g

Official Declared by APPLE

Apple iWatch to be launched in October 2014

Apple is one of the companies that still doesn’t have its own smart watch. While it has been rumoured for quite some time now, seems like the company is finally going to announce its smart watch next year.

According to reports based in China, the long rumoured Apple iWatch is currently under testing and is expected to be launched in October 2014 possibly alongside the new Apple iPhone 6. The company is apparently testing two different prototypes of the smart watch, both of which are equipped with a 100 mAh battery, which is comparatively very small.

Sources believe that the Apple iWatch would support wireless charging from a distance of up to 3.2 feet. But nonetheless, given the complaints received for Samsung’s 315 mAh battery in the Galaxy Gear smart watch, it’s hard to imagine what a small 100 mAh battery could provide. And recharging the battery every now and then (even wirelessly) is not a comfortable option.

Everyone is raring to go for Moto G but i would suggest to wait a while for official india launch in january which is supposed to have a Dual SIM variant also. One will surely want to appraise price/benefit equation of that model. If one can't wait, then avoid Shopyourworld as the reliability / reviews of their service are not that great.
