Samsung Z Tizen

After several delays, Samsung has finally launched its first Tizen-powered smartphone, the simply named Samsung Z.

The Samsung Z comes with a 4.9-inch, 1280x720 Super AMOLED display, 2.3GHz quad-core processor (probably the Snapdragon 800), 2GB of RAM, 16GB internal memory with microSD card support, 8 megapixel rear camera, 2.1 megapixel front camera, LTE, NFC, IR sensor, 2600mAh battery and version 2.2.1 of Tizen.

The Samsung Z also has a fingerprint sensor in the home button and a heart rate monitor on the back, which first debuted on the Galaxy S5.

There doesn't seem anything particularly new or appealing about the Tizen OS as of now but Samsung does promise fast performance, quick multitasking and high quality web browsing experience. The UI is somewhat similar to the one on the new Galaxy S5.

The phone will initially launch in Russia in the third quarter of this year, and will make its way to some of the other markets later.

AndroidOne - Low cost Nexus???

Google announces Android One to revolutionize low-end smartphones

NEW DELHI: Google has announced Android One, a design reference platform that will enable manufacturers to build ultra-cheap smartphones with much more ease. The move could see Indian mobile device brands up the ante with stable entry-level smartphones powered by Android mobile operating system.

Delivering his keynote address at I/O 2014, Google's annual developer conference in San Francisco on Wednesday, Sundar Pichai, Google's head of Android and Chrome platforms, said Android One will in fact let phone-makers pool in resources to create a reference platform for smartphones, thus saving time and costs in launching new models.

The software powering these sub-Rs 6,000 smartphones will be stock Android, but manufacturers and telecom carriers can differentiate their products by adding a few of their own custom apps without diluting the Android experience like bigger players Samsung, HTC, LG and Sony etc already do.

Like Nexus and Google Play Edition products, Android One smartphones will get software updates from Google. Pichai said that these smartphones will get a list of recommended apps from 'Play Auto-installs'.

Google will begin the programme from India and announced that it has already roped in Micromax, Karbonn and Spice as initial partners. Interestingly, Microsoft is also trying to capture this segment by working closely with Indian brands like Micromax, Xolo and Karbonn to launch cheap smartphones that run on its Windows Phone 8.1.

In the keynote, Pichai gave the example of an Android One-powered Micromax smartphone, which will have a 4.5-inch screen, dual sim functionality, microSD card support and FM radio priced under $100.

Google has revealed that Android is used by a billion users and the Android One initiative is part of its aim to reach out to the next five billion smartphone users. Currently, only 10% of India's user base possesses smartphones and Google's move could lead to a proliferation of affordable Android-based smartphones reaching many more hands.

Smartphone sales in India remain high at the bottom end and the sub-Rs 10,000 segment has seen sales surge with the launch of Moto E. Various manufacturers are looking to tap into this demand with ultra-cheap smartphones even with the latest version of the Android.

Though there are a few $100 (Rs 5,000-6,000) Android smartphones in the Indian market, but they are restricted by low-end hardware and generally deliver a poor user experience. If Android One devices are able to deliver good performance without breaking the price barrier, Google will be able to turn feature phone users into smartphone buyers and increase its own user base.

However, on the price front, Mozilla is working on undercutting even Google. It has partnered with Spice and Intex to bring Firefox OS-powered smartphones to India for less than Rs 2,000, but its app store remains nascent compared to Google's Play Store marketplace.

It also remains to be seen how far Microsoft will respond to the development. On one hand, it has Nokia X, Asha and entry-level Lumia phones in its arsenal, and on the other it is trying to closely work with the same set of manufacturers to launch cheaper Windows Phone handsets.

Is easy to root this phone and add gapps.

It is important to note that while the Xiaomi phones don't come with the Play Store and Google apps in China, they will support them in India.

I think this will be like the Singapore model with international miui supporting gapps. Rooting still will need to be done and warranty not sure if it would get void

So, GApps are also coming with Mi3... So the last reason to not buy this phone (for General Public) becomes invalid now... Further flashing custom recovery and rooting is straight forward, afaik as its coming with unlockable BL. Even heard that Mi3 in some markets is coming with root ready...

Second important thing to do after buying this phone is use Nova Launcher to escape the uselessly flashy UI...

But the MAIN PROBLEM will be that, the phone will be available for sale for few seconds only and buying the same will be like a jackpot...

I have been using this phone for about few months its a really awesome phone I am using the global variant on Cdma Sim card the battery life is very good

As far as rooting is concerned you can install the Dev ROM which is updated weekly from official site it has the option to enable root & you won't even void your warranty

Xiaomi has not launched the cdma variant with 64 gb yet only 16 gb is available for the Cdma let's see they launch the cdma variant officially in India or not

Asus ZenFone 4, ZenFone 5 and ZenFone 6 Launched in India

Source: NDTV

asus_zenfone_6_india_launch.jpg

Asus has launched three new smartphones in India, the Asus ZenFone 4, ZenFone 5, and ZenFone 6. The company also announced the refreshed version of its voice-calling tablet, the Fonepad 7 (FE170CG).

The ZenFone 4 comes in two variants, with the 4-inch (A400CG) model priced at Rs. 5,999, and the 4.5-inch (A450CG) model announced without a price. The ZenFone 5 (8GB) has been priced at Rs. 9,999, while the 16GB storage variant pricing has not yet been revealed. The ZenFone 6 (seen above) on the other hand has been priced at Rs. 16,999 for its 16GB storage variant.

The Asus ZenFone handsets include the new ZenUI skin on top of Android 4.3 Jelly Bean (all three devices will be upgradeable to Android 4.4 KitKat). According to Asus, ZenUI is built with simplified, easy-to-access icons and menus, select themes to match the device colours, and a What's Next feature to keep a track of a user's daily schedule.

The Asus ZenFone 4, ZenFone 5 and ZenFone 6 also come with a 'PixelMaster' camera technology that includes a set of features such as Selfie Mode and Depth of Field Mode, Low Light Mode and Time Rewind to deliver what Asus calls an enhanced image capturing experience.

(Also see: Asus ZenFone 4 vs Asus ZenFone 5 vs Asus ZenFone 6 vs Motorola Moto G)

The dual-SIM (Micro-SIM card) Asus ZenFone 4 sports a 4-inch WVGA (480x800 pixel) resolution display supported by a 1.2GHz dual-core Intel Atom Z2520 processor with Hyper-Threading Technology (implying 4 threads) and 1GB of RAM. The smartphone also features a 5-megapixel rear and 0.3-megapixel front-facing camera optics. The phone features 8GB of built-in storage that can be expanded via microSD card (up to 64GB).

The Asus ZenFone 5 (seen below) features a 5-inch 720x1280 pixel IPS display, and is powered by a 1.6GHz dual-core Intel Atom Z2560 processor with Hyper-Threading technology (implying 4 threads), coupled with 1GB of RAM. ZenFone 5 (First Impressions) sports an 8-megapixel rear camera and a 2-megapixel front facing camera for video chatting. The handset's storage memory is also expandable to 64GB via microSD card. The ZenFone 5 is available in Charcoal Black, Pearl White, Cherry Red, and Champagne Gold.

With similar expandable storage features as ZenFone 5, Asus ZenFone 6 includes a 3230mAh battery capacity and measures 166.9 x 84.3 x 9.9-5.5mm, while weighing 196 grams.
