How To Fastboot in Android For Flashing Custom Recovery?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I got Lenovo A820e from china this week. Its a CDMA+GSM.

The phone is from China Telecom and doesnt have Google Apps.

I have rooted the phone using Framaroot.

In oder to install Google Apps, I am able to get many zip files which can be flashed using customer recovery like CWM. However, to install custom recovery, I need to go to Fastboot. But my problem is that I am unable to get into fastboot.

By pressing Power + Volume Down I get to a menu where these options are listed -
0. Board Test
1. Current Test
2. RF Test
3. Test Flow
4. SD Update
5. Erase Userdata
6. Format Internal SD
7. Copy Pre-Source
8. Reboot

And if I press Power + Both Volume Buttons, I get the menu like below -
Android System recovery <3e>
Reboot system now
apply update from external storage
apply update from internal storage
apply update from ADB
apply update from cache
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache partition
backup & restore
mount & storage

Can anybody help me here on how to get into fastboot mode ?

Or is there any other way to install a custom recovery ?

Use command "adb reboot bootloader "

to enter fastboot mode and flash custom recovery

is evdo data working on your A820E

cos as soon as the evdo appers it gives a force close error & network bars dissappears

Thanks for responding quickly Jagjit Singhji.

When I try -

adb devices

I dont get the phone listed there. From resources on net, I found that the drivers get loaded when the phone is connected to laptop during fastboot mode. Since I cannot get there I am unable to load the driver.

Exactly when should I connect to laptop to issue the "adb reboot bootloader" ?

However, I managed to install most of the drivers. Only one node - "USB Device" remains yellow in Device Manager.

If you have the USB driver, I would install and try this.

I have not yet tried to connect using EVDO. Let me try right away. I will update soon.

connect the phone to pc it should show a cd rom install china telecom software

it will install all the required drivers

enable usb debugging

try adb devices first if it connects than try adb reboot bootloader

I tried for about 40 minutes. Unable to connect using EVDO.

I still have to try on EDGE.

Too much fight for everything. :(

But first thing first - I need to start Google Apps. For that I need to be in Fastboot mode. Plz. help.

I could have done this. But before I read this, I already gave the phone to a friend.

He used Flash Gorden and flashed a CWM Recovery. Now the phone is not moving beyond Lenovo Logo. :(

Also when booted into recovery, it still shows the stock recovery.

Then he wiped the cache and partition and restored the backup. It shows that the restore was successful but still on reboot the phone stuck at the logo.

Now wiping the partitions, shows error that it couldnt mount.

It seems, I am in a deep trouble. May be the phone is bricked permanently.

I would appreciate any help.

I was able to get back the phone to life.

Flashed a rooted ROM with Google Apps and everything is working.

Except-

Unable to switch on either Reliance or Idea APN. The phone is not connecting to internet except on WiFi.

Any idea, how to do this ?

Has anybody experienced foreign phones not connecting to network data ?

Is this related to XML file storing APN setting ?

Hi, I have also an A820e. Got to the same point. I've installed a ROM with GApps and got everything working except I can't get 3G data, only GPRS.

I think it's ROM related.

Have you been able to find a solution?

It seems that Lenovo A820e doesn't have the 2100 band which is required for 3G communication in Europe.

The way I was able to activate data in the ROM that has the google services is by introducing the following code in the dialer:

*#*#4763#*#*

After this a message telling me that the data has been started appeared and I was able to control.

Also before this I made a change in system/build.prop

to default the network to gsm. I've added:

ro.telephony.default_network=1
(Should be rooted to have access to this. I've used Root Browser)

Hope this helps.

When I dial *#*#4763#*#*, it allows me to toggle gsm data by showing a message on screen. But if I change the settings from Sim Settings to use gsm data, I get error - "Unfortunately, the process com.android.phone stopped" and then, signal of gsm and CDMA goes off in the status bar at the top. I must have to have CDMA data to use phone

What is the latest scenario regarding running fastboot and adb under Windows 8 (8.1 specifically). Have these been sorted out.

If yes, the sources / versions which are compatible.

Specifically, I want to get into my rooted htc One to unroot it. I hear that fastboot does not work.

I was able to sort out all the issues. Including Gapps and evdo connectivity. Using and loving the phone for more than 7 months now.

YourZgapps... Zip is the file that you should be able to find on xda. That would work for you. If not, I will try to send it to you

Edit : btw, the latest update is 130916. Why don't u use the latest one?
