How to update Samsung Galaxy S4 SPH-L720 to 4.3 MJA

Recommended Posts

I have updated to 4.3 by following the link below.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r1iYdjtIjq0

GSM unlock works with this update. New icons, lot of new things. Will update in next post.

If you are in custom recovery, download stock recovery (recovey.img) from the link below

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=40850611

Use this recovery.img to flash using mobile odin lite from play store.

Remember the update has to be placed in the external sd card.

Use stock recovery, install update from external sd card, flash. Will take around 20 mins.

IMPORTANT

if you have any MODS installed, please uninstall it then flash MF9 firmware and only then update to MJA.

IMPORTANT

if you have any MODS installed, please uninstall it then flash MF9 firmware and only then update to MJA.

4.3 also has KNOX SECURITY, So if you want to root make sure you are rooted before updating.

Updating from rooted 4.2 to 4.3 won't lose root. For some reason you won't see superuser app in menu. You can find it only in Applications menu under settings.

Warning

Please flash at your own risk. The New Knox SECURITY won't allow to go back to MF9. For some reason I lost root while trying freeze the Knox apps. Lot of people have reported bricking of their S4 on XDA.

[GUIDE]How to safely root MJA 4.3

This post also has a script which is flashable through custom recovery which completely removes Knox security. Both the author and I have flashed this script and completely removed the Knox out of firmware.

I updated my S4 by following the procedure posted by XDA member Ingenium13 on XDA. The best part of updating by this way is; you will not lose any of your current data and settings. Also your phone will be updated with complete firmware i.e. bootloader, radio, stock recovery and OS.

Following is the link for complete guide :

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2509605

You dont have to uninstall/Install anything. Remember the Joshm way of updating our Fascinate via ODIN :smartass:

1. Make a complete backup of your phone via your current recovery.\

2. Download all the required file as specified in above link.

3. Place MJA update file on your SD Card. (Remember not to put in Phone memory)

4. Start ODIN in your computer and load the stock MF9 through PDA. Make sure re-partition is not checked in ODIN

5. Power off the phone completely and then go into download mode by holding VolDown+Home+Power button together.

6. Connect your phone to computer. (See if ODIN has detected it? In my case I had to connect the phone first and then start ODIN.)

7. Load the stock MF9 through ODIN. Reboot to check that your Data is not lost. Now you are on stock MF9.

8. Reboot to stock recovery by holding down VolUP+Home+Power button together.

9. Select Install from zipcard and navigate to the stock MJA file you put in your SD card in step 3. Flash it.

10. After Flashing you will see that you are on stock 4.3 and all your data is still intact.

Now you can root your phone by using Chainfire’s CF-auto root file. Just download the auto root file and flash it through ODIN. Complete rooting procedure is here:

Freezed Knox via ROM toolbox Lite. I saw somewhere on XDA the procedure to remove Knox. By the way what is the use of removing Knox at present? I am able to do everything in my phone.

The first post was posted in Oct. It's a OTA update. No loss of data. The hotpot mod that's mentioned in your link does not work on Non Sprint activated S4 Unfortunately. Other than that you can follow your heart as of which one to flash in the link you mentioned. Make sure you read the post properly and only then go ahead.

Hello all,

I am fairly new user with the rimweb and need some help from experts.

I am using Samsung Galaxy S4 (SPH-L720) with reliance, from couple of days I an getting an update notification from Google Play that the update has been downloaded and ready to install. I am not sure if that update would lose the connectivity with Reliance on my phone, however I would like to update my phone to the latest version.

Any help or guidance in getting the phone updated would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.
