MTS deceiving customers by telling wrong package validity dates

I received 100GB data package with a new connection 91367xxxxx with my new MTS Mbalze 5.0 mobile. This 100GB data pack is valid for 12 months with 197Rs data-carry-forward recharge every month or Rs351 Recharge every 2 months before the expiry.

I had refilled it with Rs 351 data carry forward pack on 12 Feb and confirmation SMS showed that the carry forward data is valid till 13 April 2015.

I have been checking the data balance throughout these two months and it always showed that carry forward data is valid till 13 April 2015 (When I checked last about three days back, I had more than 72GB data remaining). Check Screen capture.


Before refilling the data carry foraward pack of Rs.351 today, I checked the data balance. I was amazed to see there was no data balance in my account.


I called the customer care at about 07:07PM and I was told by the agent and supervisor that the data carry forward package of Rs351 should be bought by the last day of validity. and I was told that it expired last night at 0000hrs (intervening night of 12 April and 13 April 2015).


The logic cutomer care agent and supervisors presented were nothing less that ridiculous and illogical in all senses. He told me that if MTS says 'valid till 13 April 2015' it means '13 April 2015 0000hrs', just the moment 13 April starts. I asked him "right now its 7:40PM. Is it 13 April or not?" He said "yes". I asked "then why that data package is not valid at this moment if its 13th April?" He didn't have an answer. He was just repeating that for MTS 13th April begins and ends at 0000hrs.


I asked your customer care agent and supervisors to raise a complaint about this matter. They refused to raised a complaint in this matter saying that they can do this. I told them that this complaint is necessary so that I can later prove that I wanted to carry forward my balance data before the expiry date of 13 April 2015 but I couldn't do so because of wrong information provided to me by MTS. In the end they agreed to give an interaction reference number.


This is an example of callous behaviour MTS customer care can treats its customers.


No other service provider ends a package at 0000hrs and calls it valid on that day.



I have written email to MTS appellate authority and waiting for their reponse. Will keep updating this thread.

Use that reference interaction number and Lodge a complaint on pgportal. It does yield result many times. Also, it is always a good idea to record your call when handling such cases.

The same problem happened to my fried also. The customer care executive told him that he should recharge at least 24 hours before the validity ends. Hearing his experience I am recharging 2 days before the expiry of validity.

I received a reply from them, informing me they will correct the date/time format.

But no word about recovery of data volume that I have lost.

I have written them back reminding them to restore the data.

In case no positive action is being taken, I have decided to bring them to consumer court.

Believe me those GBs of data are far less important than your peace of mind and time wastage. Moreover, even if u win the case,which m sure u will, they will continue fleecing others the same way. No gain

For MTS, the validity format for all the voice/ data/sms/vas packages is 'the validity date they mention minus one day' This is for cheating on innumerable customers who lose balance in the process. The suffering is the most when the validity for data package ends subtly and the consumer goes on using data, in the process loses huge amount from main balance.

Drag them to consumer court.

my case is slightly different... i recharged for 150+15=+80= 380Rs.. then send message as " buy stv351" to 51230 ... received message like " amount deducted successfully " .... but when i checked data balance, it is reset to zero .. contacted cc ... same answer what you got ... then closed complaint and gave me appellete mail id ... sent mail to that mail id... but got same ans .... they cant refund my money also .... so i lost data balnace as well as 351Rs ...

problem is they have 2 format for validity ... one is midnight nd other is 24hr format.... i recharge 52Rs ( 5000 min mts to mts free 28days ) ... validity ends in midnight format ( my current pack ended yesterday night 12)

data pack ends exact 30day from recharge time ( you can check when you get message after you disconnected data )

Even if you approach consumer court.Even if you win the case

Actually you will lose

you will lose your valuable time ( may take years to complete the case)

you will lose your money( may be in thousands but calculate the value of time you spend)

OVERALL YOU WILL LOSE YOUR PEACE OF MIND

NOTHING MAKES DIFFERENCE TO MTS even it loses

Penalty it pay is peanuts to MTS does not make any difference in its finances

It has dedicated lawyers to fight such cases without involving extra time

It gets its peace of mind from customers by charging extra

Over all MTS will not stop doing such stupid things of wrong charges wrong plans but may be in different way

I am not diappointing anyone from approaching consumer court.But before moving ahead be prepared for the above outcomes.

I myself have have the experience of winning 2 cases in consumer court but acually lost in terms of money , time and peace of mind despite winning the both cases i did not gain any thing not the company did not lose any thing

This is how our court are and this is how they are penalised.

From my experience people who are lawyers can file the cases in conusmer courts.Or who have friends or relatives as lawyers can file the case where lawers will take care of every thing and we need not attend the court every time

I will also the request the courts to fine MTS double the amount they could have looted using this method.

Which ministry / deptt should I choose to lodge complain against MTS?

Deptt of telecom?

then there are three sub-options: BSNL/MTNL/Telecom.deptt.

Even though being lawyer, i won't file case, unless I am regular practice in that court. You are correct, the value of time spent for that case more value than we lost.
