Smartphones that will work on Reliance 4G

Recommended Posts

Now that it is almost final that RCDMA will be migrated to RCOM 4G, the next step is to upgrade our smartphone.

Many of us may be using imported phone which might work on 4G.

I request all seniors to suggest which phones will be working with RCOM 4G.

Currently I am using Droid Maxx which is a world phone acc to motorola. Will it work with RCOM 4G or I need to change this ?

Please choose a handset with ALL LTE (4G) bands and with built in VoLTE support (must). I chose Redmi Note 3. Even my Asus Zenfone 2 does not have VoLTE. Though people think VoLTE can be done via software upgrade in 4G compatible handsets, IMHO if it does not come out of the box it will be a difficult proposition later on. Kindly search the internet, there are lots of 4G+VoLTE handsets available in India but mostly in the higher price bracket - http://telecomtalk.info/list-rjio-volte-enabled-smartphone/147516/

lot of confusion (or you can i am a noob in this tech world)..

in the other thread some member post QA type which stated that "voice will be through fallback on 2G/3G network and data will be provided by 4G network",.

if this is true, is it necessary to have VoLTE enabled phone for voice ?

Will Lumia 550 work with LTE Band 5? If yes, it could be the cheapest alternative.

Microsoft website indicates following only,

GSM network: 850 MHz, 900 MHz, 1800 MHz, 1900 MHz

WCDMA network: Band 5 (850 MHz), Band 8 (900 MHz), Band 1 (2100 MHz)

LTE FDD network: Band 8 (900MHz), Band 20 (800MHz), Band 1 (2100 MHz), Band 3 (1800 MHz), Band 7 (2600 MHz)

It shows Band 5 but only as WCDMA (3G?). Also one of my cousin uses it with Airtel 4G in Kolkata but LTE Band 40 is not shown in Microsoft website.

I'm thoroughly confused.

Buy band 5, 40, volte enabled as most of us will ultimately port to jio later

Sent from my Redmi Note 3 using Tapatalk

Jio has pan india spectrum in band 40 - 2300Mhz.

It also has Band 5 - 850 Mhz sharing with Reliance.

It further acquired in auction band 3 - 1800 Mhz in some circles.

If Jio's 4G for Reliance CDMA upgrade customers is deployed on band 5, it will also deploy 4G in band 3 & 40.

Otherwise what Jio will do with spectrum in band 3 & 40?

My proposition is that a 4G handset with band 3 support should work in some circles & with band 40 support should work in all circles for data.

(VOLTE will depend on handset support).

Handset without VOLTE support should also work for voice as Jio has Pan India agreement with BSNL & Reliance Communication for 2G/3G voice fallback.

So the conclusion is,

All handset with particular deployed 4G band in respective circle but without VOLTE will latch on either BSNL or R COM GSM network for voice

All handset with particular deployed 4G band in respective circle but with VOLTE will use Jio data network for Voice & will switch to 2G/3G voice fallback where Jio coverage ends.

Is my understanding correct?

Yes. Also to add that even the existing beta testing volte is quite stable at least in Kol circle. A friend oversees 650+ sites alone and teething problems with fluctuations exist but they are being ironed out
