Reliance Infocomm introduces first ever auction facility on Mobile phones through R World

· Tie-up with Bazee.com for mobile bidding

DAKC (Dhirubhai Ambani Knowledge City), Navi Mumbai April 23, 2004

After Reliance Infocomm's successful M-commerce initiative for the RIM Bill payment from the mobile phones, Reliance IndiaMobile phones will now facilitate the country's first mobile auction bidding services through R World, its mobile data application suite. The company has tied-up with the popular online e-commerce site - Baazee.com to provide mobile bidding. Baazee.com will display a new showcase of products, exclusively available for Reliance IndiaMobile subscribers on their mobile.

"Our mobile commerce application of RIM Bill Payment through R World has received a tremendous response, with the number of subscribers paying the bills from R World growing by the day since its launch three months ago. We are confident of the success of Mobile Auction with Baazee as it offers a wider reach, with anytime, anywhere access compared to the web medium," says Mr. Mahesh Prasad, President - Application & Solutions Group.

The process is simple, just requiring RIM subscribers to select 'Auction' through R World menu. Customers need not register with Baazee for bidding on mobiles as no login information is necessary with the authentication being effected by Reliance Infocomm on behalf of the user.

"We are very happy to partner with Reliance Infocomm in this unique initiative. The mobile platform will definitely offer an expanded reach for a range of impulse products. All information regarding the bid item, bid price, item description, bid increments, start and end time will be provided by Baazee. The logic of deciding the winning bid will also be provided by Baazee," said Mr. Gautam Thakar, Chief Marketing Officer Bazeee.com.

The simplicity of the application prompts a user to select a particular item, view details like the current price, start bid price, start bid time and end bid time along with the bid increment and bid value, before actually bidding for the item. With a few clicks, users can place a bid. The user can also go to the 'My Bids' option and view the details of the bids submitted. A user can bid again, if outbid by another.

At the end of the bid cycle, details about the winners will be passed on to Baazee, who in turn will forward it to the seller and ensure the closure of the sale arising from the bid.

With over hundred data applications, the Java-based R World has become a treasure house of knowledge, information, entertainment and commerce - unique to any wireless service in India. R World offers a wide range of multimedia applications including news updates in eight languages, high quality video streaming, downloadable multilingual ring tones, seasonal updates including election updates, festival specials, city & TV guides, exam results, astrology, banking and stock prices. Designed for better productivity, convenience and infotainment, R World continuously launches new and contemporary applications.
