All About Nokia 6265

Recommended Posts

I have used the Nokia 6265 handset for just about 24hrs but I have been able to check almost all features of this handset.I think its a good buy for the price between Rs15-17K.It has got many positives and hardly any negatives.Well I have tried tried to describe the features in detail :

1.Phonebook

It can store upto 500 names with 5 numbers per contact. You can also add Photos, email ids etc.Basic features like Speed dialling and Voice tags are also there.

2.Messages

You can store large amount of messages because it has about 24mb internal memory. The sub menus are the same as in Nokia 6255 handset. The only new thing is that you have the option to lock the messages to protect it from being deleted.

3.Call history

It records last 30 missed,30 dialled and 30 recieved call history. It also has the option of Minibrower calls history.

4.Camera

Well as described earlier it has a 2Mp camera with 4x zoom. The photo quality is good but not exceptional. It basically depends upon the brightness around. When you zoom in full then the photo quality decreases as was the case in Nokia 6255.Even the Video quality is satisfactory. The best thing is that it has digital zoom which means while you are recording a Video, you can zoom in and zoom out, which is really a good feature. There are options to change the Image quality from High>Normal>Basic. You can even change the Image size from 1600x1200 to 160x120.The Image&Videos storage folder can been changed to the memory card, hence you can record really long Videos and huge amount of Photos. As I have put a 1Gb minisd card,I have the option of recording Videos for over 2hrs with the best quality. It also has the option of Image sequence by which the Phone takes upto 4 photos in quick succession. It also has the Self timer feature. The Night mode is not that usefull and so is the Flash. The Picture formats supported are JPEG,PNG and GIF. The Video format supported are H.263, MPEG4, 3GPP & 3GPP2.I have posted 2 pictures taken by this handset so that you"ll can see the clarity of this handset.

5.Radio

You can save upto 20 channels. But I didnt find the Radio to be too clear. Its satisfactory.Offcource you need a headset to play the radio. It doesnot play with the Bluetooth headset.

6.Music Player

Well this is one of the most attractive feature of this handset. If you put a 1Gb card then you donot need any other music device.I think the Music player supports upto 500 songs depending upon the Memory. The songs can be played on the Bluetooth headset or even on the Loudspeaker. The sound formats supported by this handset are EVRC,AAC,MP3,MIDI,AMR.It doesnot support Rm files.

7. Settings

a.Display settings

Under Display settings also most of the menus are the same as in Nokia 6255 handset. But there are a few New options. There is a option of Sleep Mode which is a power saving mode and turns off the display during inactivity. You can also re-arrange the entire Menu of this handset according to your needs.Themes are also included.

b.Connectivity

There are 3 options Bluetooth,Infrared,Usb.The sub menus of all these 3 options are the same.Nothing new.

c.Security

Under this option you can set a security code for the handset and pin code for the UIM card. The security options are good. There are options to lock outgoing and incoming calls from particular numbers. There are options to lock the Phonebook and UIM card memory.

8.Organiser

Under this option are menus are the same.Like Alarm,Calculator,Stop watch.Countdown timer etc.

9.Extras

a.Games

There are 4 games pre loaded.Chess puzzle,Gilf tour,High roller casino and Snake 3.

b.Collection

There are 2 options-Converter 2 and World clock.

10.R-World

Mostly all applications are the same but a few important applications are missing like Phonebook transfer,R-surf etc.Again nothing new in R-world menu.

11.Wap

This is a good and important feature of this handset.I have accessed my Rediffmail via Wap.I have also opened Rimweb website using Wap.Some sites open and some have restrictions.Sometimes you have to try 3-4 times to open a particular website if any error message is shown. But overall the Wap experience is satisfactory.

12.R-Connect

This handset supports R-Connect also. You can access R-Connect via Data cable or Bluetooth.I am using the R-Connect using my Bluetooth dongle so its a wireless internet connection.

13.Memory card

This handset supports Minisd card upto 1gb easily. It may even support 2gb card.Unlike the Nokia 6255 handset you dont need to remove the battery to remove Memory card. The Memory card position is given on the top of the display.Good positioning.

I think I have mentioned everything about the handset but still If I have left out anything then please ask me anything about this handset.I hope this review helps many of you"ll.

The Nokia 6265 handset doesnot support Messages in Nokia PC suite. But you can install games and softwares which are series 40 capable in the Nokia 6265 handset using Nokia PC suite. You dont need to download any other software to install games/softwares in the Nokia 6265 handset. If anyone knows any good sites from where we can download free games and softwares for series 40 handsets then please share it with us also. :)

Congrats everyone who has got or getting this beuty!

Everthing good is being said about this handset, so let me tell the other side. I am not buying this handset, coz of following reasons:

1. Of course the price and the stingyness of Reliance of not giving Bluetooth/any good offer with the handset.

As per the features.

2. I'd really like the SMS and pictures/movies folder to be password protected, or a password protected folder should be provided to keep SMS n stuff.. Once the mobile is stolen or given to repairs, then all ur personal data is open to others. (I am not talking about phone locking feature, it is too much hessle to remove the password everytime to make a call.)

3. Radio. I really can't understand the reason for having to use the corded headset just for FM. Even the smallest of mp3 players are having FM inbuilt. If Nokia can place the chip in the headset, why can't it do something to make it inside the phone. So if you are FM fan, then you have to carry mobile + bluetooth headset + the corded headset. The bluetooth can't be used for listening for FM, which is sad. You'll have to switch the headsets if u want to change from listen FM radio.

4. S40 interface. For such a price, I'd really like my phone to be a smartphone. Paying so much for S40 doesn't make sense to my geeky mind, who always likes to experiment with high priced gadgets!

5. Besides these points, I am relly pissed of, because here reliance has all the cards in their hands, and we are like beggers for them. The start of this thread and actual launch date is enough to speak about these. They don't give a damn for customer demand, no care for any problems, no support for freedom of changing the service providers, and whenever they launch such good handset, their greed is so much more than providing good quality offers to the customers.

In fact, I am thinking to quit reliance just based on these points. I bet if u'd be buying GSM phone, u wouldn't have given a damn about 6265, especially at this price. And here, we are overjoyed over this irrationally priced handset, which is looking good just because the competiting handsets are ugly, and not because it is good in itself.

People, while buying this or any CDMA handset, please think that would you pay so much for a GSM handset, and is the handset giving you features and freedom you'd expect from a buy of so much money.

The chip is not placed in the headset, it is in the phone itselt. Its just that the phone utilizes the cord of the headset as an ariel for catching the FM signals.

You could bypass carrying a headset, by carrying a 2.5 mm headset jack instead. That would fool the phone to believe a headset is attached - but the recepetion would not be clear.

Hi Schumi, I am unable to browse any site using WAP. It says 403 forbidden. How did u manage to check your mails? Please reply back ASAP.

Well as I have mentioned in my review that such error messages pop up but you need to retry for atleast 3-4 times then the site opens.Sometimes if you are lucky then it opens in the 1st chance only.

Well the battery backup seems to be good. Its been just over 40hrs since I have got this handset so I cant really comment on the battery backup now.Regarding the Voice clarity, its good and so is the signal strength. But this mostly depends upon the network but still its good. :)

but schumi said he got thru wap on his phone n i tried the rediff mobile website but getting the 403 error, so how did schumi get thru? i tried atleast 8-10times

Just try switching off and switching on your handset and then try accessing Wap.You should get through. When the 403 error shows then just press retry key for maybe 3-4 times and you should be able to get through.Even Zappu had the same problem but now his problem is solved.I cant suggest you anything else,so just try the above steps and hopefully your problem should also be solved. :(

There is no in-built mail software so you can not set any email account and check mails. Currently I am checking mails through inbuilt minibrowser. But there are 3rd party mail s/w available for this phone where pop3 mails can be installed but I am not sure if mail download will work or not. I assume it can be made to work. I will spend 2-3 days exploring this and let you know.

Also there is no document viewer app inbuilt but yes there are few 3rd party available on different websites. I am yet to find a good free apps so I have not installed one.

Thanks Zappu...

So it seems there is just the camera and the looks that had made this set so expensive, but no business tools. It is surprising that to know that it does not have any in-built email client, especially when even sub 10K GSM phones these days have the option to setup email account. Strange that GSM hansets supporting slower data rates have the features like this, but the CDMA handsets which support faster data rates are not having even email client...

You are right Basant. Business tools should be standard in such expensive handsets but you've got to accept whatever we have. CDMA network can support reasonably good data transfers than GSM so operators shoulc get some good PDAs to make use of the network fully.

hey guys,

the WAP stuff is a bit confusing.

i tried accessing thru minibrowser (r world-> options) it gave me 403 forbidden

but then i installed opera mini browser thru bluetooth, and to my delight it did open up site, though as schumi said, at times, i did have to do a reload to get the page and certain pages were not at all opening.

all shud try opera mini, it is gr8.

but my query is how is it accessing, on GSM you generally have to activate your GPRS, how is it working here, we have not done any activation, is it happening thru rworld or cdma data access, is it chargeable??

@Panks

Let me know which Bluetooth software have you loaded on your Laptop and also have you ever used Bluetooth dongle before :quest: After you answer to these questions then I will be able to help you out better :)

As requested, here is the comparison of Nokia 6265 - Nokia 6255 and Nokia 6235. Click on the link below...

6265 Compared with 6255 and 6235

The Main Differences are...for details check on the link above

1. Standby Time

2. Display size and resolution (Vast Difference)

3. Camera Resolution

4. Internal Memory

5. Site says there is no Voice command on 6265, However it does have Voice Command.

Besides this I think video recording is of Limited lenght on 6255. and many more differences.

I think Shumi can add a few more to this....Maybe only the major ones...coz I am sure I have missed out on some features like the storage and all...

Well most of the differences are listed above but there are few more minor differences like :

1.Security options-Nokia 6265 has much better security options as compared to Nokia 6255 handset. You have the option to lock your phonebook and also request a pin for UIM card on startup.

2.Camera-Offcource the resolution and clarity is the major difference but also digital zoom which allows us to actually zoom in and zoom out while video recording. This feature is not there in Nokia 6255.Also Image sequence which captures upto 4 images in quick succession. And also Video recording length is another difference.

3.Music player-The Mp3 player in Nokia 6265 supports upto 500 songs while in Nokia 6255 supports less(I think 250).I am talking about the Music player list and not the storage capacity of the handset. Also I feel the speakers of the Nokia 6265 are much better than the Nokia 6255 handset. And also Nokia 6265 supports more music formats.

4.Display-Themes are supported by Nokia 6265 unlike Nokia 6255 handset. The entire Menu format can be changed according to your preference in the Nokia 6265 which is missing in Nokia 6255.Nokia 6265 has Sleep mode which is again missing in Nokia 6255 handset.

5.Extras-In the Nokia 6265 handet you can easily download jar. format games and applications via Nokia Pc SUITE.You donot need to download 3rd party softwares for it like was the case in Nokia 6255 handset.

6.Wap-This is another addtional feature in the Nokia 6265 handset.

7.Memory card-In Nokia 6265 handset the memory card slot in given above the display and is easily accessible while in the Nokia 6255 handset the memory card slot was given under the battery which was a big hassle.

8.Looks-No one can argue that the Nokia 6265 handset looks much better than the Nokia 6255 handset.

I think most of the differences have been mentioned maybe a few are still left. But the above points clearly show how the Nokia 6265 is superior to the Nokia 6255 handset in almost all aspects.
