Why Such Low Speed On Rconnect Using Lg 5340

hi group,

recently i purchased RIM LG 5340 specifically for internet.

i have got a third party USB to seriel data cable.

Rconnect is getting properly installed and connects to the net.the connectin shows 115.2 kbps and the session throughput shows from 2-6 kilobits/sec(kbps).not even a single webpage is getting opened.what is the reason?why such low speeds?

the software i am using does not have drivers for 5340 so the person i bought it from advised me to install for LG 5130.is that affecting the speed?

the device manager shows modem as "standard 28000 bps modem",why it shows it as 28000 bps modem?

i have XP SP2 installed on my pc.

is there anyway i can improve the speed.atleast upto 20-30 kbps.

will changing the cable to a plain USB work?

what other things i can do?

and i live in a small town in orissa where there is a good coverage of reliance network.

kindly give some sggestions.
