Hi, My brother is going to send me HTC hero next week. I am all exited and want to know everything to get it working in best shape. Need help from Guru’s here. As per Mufaddal’s mandate, I’ve done my homework and ready every post on in this discussion and more. Everything doesn’t sound alien to me but I am not confident yet. I am a programmer of past and that too non unix so need helping hand. I am on Relence network Making it work 1) What backup should I take before I start? Is copying nandroid folder to computer enough? 2) Would HCC and MEID card make the phone work for me. At least voice n then ##3282#. If answer to 2 is no then I’d need more help from Gurus. I can say I know how to do certain thing but don’t know the sequence. Does the answer lies in HTC-Sprint-Hero-MEID-Solution? Is it necessary to sacrifice a phone? 3) In April end some people got a message for activation/registration? Is that sorted now? Any suggestions for newbies? 4) Would I need PRL file? Good to know 5) Is rooting mandatory? I’ve read the many people here did not root their phone. If rooting is reqd then should I for fresh kitchen? 6) Which ROM would you suggest. Is 2.1 good enough to jump on. I understand that once RUU 2.1 is installed then I cant go back. So should I jump for 2.1? If not then Alap? Thanks a lot to everyone in advance. This forum rocks!!!

I’ve just joined but following rimweb as guest from few days. Hello to everyone. After being victim of Blackberry 8703e n lousy support I decided to get a new phone. My bro overheard across the ocean and asked me if a CDMA phone from US wud work here. This forum showed me the way and he is sending me a Sprint HTC hero. Well, few questions before he buys the phone n sends it to me. 1) I read the krispuniq got a htc hero the same way and got it activated with help from Dhiraj. And if anyone has any query Dhiraj, mufaddal, Hetal (frm my town ), SumitVerma and other people are there to help. 2) Well, I have reliance and need help to understand steps by step approach to activate the phone and get data services running on it. It was 8 yrs back when I did 8086, 386 programming in college days. Never later. 3) How foolproof is the method. I mean if a CDMA operator changes settings on his side to restrict the imported phones to connect. Would it be end of day or 2012 for the expensive electronics piece? 4) Would getting a Bad ESN phone do? Any risks? 5) Any more suggestions before my bro buys a phone n ships it. He will do that anyways. I just have a choice to say which one. Thanks a lot in advance.
