The store has a stupid system in place for Free apps. You have to use the Free Trial link hidden in a corner. If you add it to the cart then there is no option to download even if its free without regn. and Cr Cd details. Very annoying. -
Updated: 3G Auction completed after 34 days of bidding
Harshal replied to Arun's topic in Indian Telecom / General News
The New Spectrum Tussle - 3g V/s Wimax, Telecom war enters 3G, WiMax space MUMBAI: Round one of the telecom technology war has gone to the GSM platform, with CDMA taking the backseat. A second war for supremacy is brewing between the soon-to-be-launched 3G and WiMax technologies. Both are platforms for providing high-speed internet on mobile, enabling video calls, movie downloads and other multimedia applications on mobiles. The differences between the two technologies are coming to the fore ahead of the spectrum auction next month. Ericsson - the biggest supporter and equipment vendor of 3G - is laying claims on the 2.3 GHz spectrum band, which is meant for WiMax in India. On the other hand, WiMax Forum, the international body supporting the deployment of WiMax, says that it has products certified for use in that band, which is most spectral efficient for offering high-speed internet on mobile. WiMax stands for Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access. It can also be used to provide voice services and rivals 3G as both the platforms are used for similar applications. 3G, however, is considered to be voice-centric and may be used for easing network congestion before high-end data services can be offered. According to the Department of Telecom (DoT), the 2.1 GHz band spectrum will be used for 3G, while 2.3 GHz and 2.5 GHz have been earmarked for Broadband Wireless Access (BWA), which is considered synonymous with WiMax. However, Ericsson CTO Hakan Eriksson said that BWA is a family of technologies, which include 3G, HSPA (high speed packet access), LTE (long term evolution) and WiMax. "There is nothing that specifies that it is only for WiMax," he told ET. WiMax Forum, however, feels otherwise. "2.3 and 2.5 GHz bands are globally harmonized as per the International Mobile Telecommunications (IMT)-2000 standard. As a telecom professional, I have not seen a 3G network operational in these two bands anywhere in the world," WiMax Forum India chapter chairman C S Rao said. WiMax, which can be fixed as well as mobile, mainly operates in the 2.3 - 2.7GHz range. Japan and the US are using both 2.3 and 2.5 for WiMax/OFDMA, said Mr Rao. Several mobile WiMax products operating in the 2.3 GHz-2.5 GHz band, such as Sprint Nextel in the USA, have been certified by the WiMax Forum. Ericsson, however, anticipates the presence of two billion mobile broadband subscribers by 2013, with a majority using 3G networks. "I don't think WiMax will ever break the 10% market share," said Mr Eriksson. For BWA, the DoT auction will distribute two 20 MHz blocks in both the 2.3 and 2.5 GHz bands. In the 2.1 GHz 3G band, spectrum will be auctioned in blocks of 5 Mhz. The success of both 3G and WiMax will largely depend on the strength of the ecosystem. The larger the number of equipment vendors, software suppliers and operators, the more will be the usage. The networks will be deployment countrywide next year. Source: ET -
Well the same should also go for the Unitech license. Look at the mockery they have created out of the bidding process. The license they got for 1600Cr is now worth 10K+ cr. Who knew? Except of course A Raja and his now deeply filled pockets.

All About Treo 755p - Lets Discuss The Good And The Bad

Ok so I mustered some courage and swallowed the BLUEPILL. NOTE: Before I swallowed the bluepill I took a full NVBackup and then backed up the card to my hard disk. Amazing, is the word. Within a sec (of receiving the SMS in the background) the screen showed the Owner Info. Once I pressed OK, it got busy deleting stuff. The phone went into suspended animation - No buttons were working. In around a minute or 2 the 4 GB SD card was formatted and the phone was hard reset - WIPED CLEAN. The network settings were not affected. So I could still make and receive calls after the reset and it still showed "Reliance" in the top right hand corner of the phone. I did not have a physical card reader handy so the only option left was to install "CardReader" through HotSync, since I needed to restore the card data first. HotSync did a pretty good job I must say to restore all the previous phone software as well, but not good enough. So I wanted to rely on NVBackup. I copied all the backed up card data back to the card and ran NVBackup restore. Voila! The phone is now restored to the state before the SMS was sent with the NVBackup restore. The most time consuming part was obviously copying data off and on memory card. But having experienced the whole thing first hand I can say it was pretty easy and a must install s/w for your Palm - for that DOOMED day (God forbid) when you may loose your phone. -

y dont u try it for urself and let us know....... also somewhere on this thread or other threads on treo sms commander has been posted ......it is similar to bluepill but i guess its an evaluation copy not a solved one Well my only fear is will NVBackup be able to restore the changes which Sadikk must have done to start the phone after a hard reset done by bluepill. If someone can assure me that NVBackup will successfully restore the phone settings so that at least my phone is functional, I don't mind giving this a try. Here is the bluepill solved I have, not sure from where I got it. BluePill_Solved_steps.rar -
Nokia's Future Smartphone Ui Leaked !
Harshal replied to Honest's topic in Other Network / Cellular Providers
Also Nokia is not too big in the US where most of the new cell fones are tied to the network and other handset manufacturers surely must provide better deals to networks to push their handsets. Personally I am happy that Nokia is getting some great competition from WinMo / Android against Symbian and HTC / Apple against the handsets. This should keep them in check and help us get better products at better prices. -
LONDON: Swedish researchers have found memory impairment in rats exposed to cellphone radiation for two hours every week for more than a year. The rats subjected to a memory test were released into a box with four objects. These objects were changed on two occasions and their position was also altered both the times. The actual test trial was the third occasion. This time the rats encountered two of the objects from the first occasion and two of the objects from the second. The rats, used as control, spent more time exploring the objects from the first occasion, which they considered more interesting since they had not seen them for some time. The experiment rats, on the other hand, evinced a lesser pronounced difference in interest. Henrietta Nittby and her supervisor Leif Salford, of the neurosurgery division of Lund University, Sweden, believe that the findings may be related to the team's earlier findings, that microwave radiation from cellphones can affect the so-called blood-brain barrier. This is a barrier that protects the brain by preventing substances circulating in the blood from penetrating into the brain tissue and damaging nerve cells. I would think the best option for heavy users would be to use handsfree, though make sure you dont put the phone in your shirt pocket or pant pocket. You dont want other body parts to malfunction either. LOL.

I have installed this software "MetrO" which gives information about the Metro systems of the cities of the world including Mumbai / Delhi. Just put in the name of the source and destination stations and it will tell you, approx time, number of stations, where to switch trains etc. Pretty cool. How To Jam A Gsm Mobile Phone Mannually
Harshal replied to satyanjoy's topic in General Technical Discussion
What is the difference between jamming the cell fone vis-a-vis switching it off - from the "other caller" stand point? Do they hear a different message? If so how does the network know whether the fone is switched off or out of network once it is not able to communicate with the same? -
My SMSes to this number are failing every time I try to send searches to this no. May be reliance has blocked the service, not sure.

Contradictory statements by people above. Some say Rs. 3, some say std sms but not in free quota and still others std sms. Confusing.

Harshal replied to kshah's topic in Other handsets
Hey Amitabh, can you throw some more light on what you are trying to achieve. and how? I am thinking you have a GPS device that can communicate with Treo over BT. Then you are trying to use google maps to make Treo behave like a true GPS based maps device. If so, please give more info about the GPS device and your success with making it work. -

I agree with Dhiraj, what is preventing the parcel not being stopped at customs, especially if he orders a big and costly BD player.

Possible Screenshots Of Windows Mobile 6.5 Emerge!
Harshal replied to Honest's topic in General Technical Discussion
Looks like the new interface could have taken inspiration from Touchflo and iPhone UI, in that case the speed will suffer more - since these are more graphics oriented. Take W. Vista for ex., just to enable the semi-transparent background and the cool window switching technique a la "Aero", the recommended HW requirements went very high - at 2 GB and 1.6 ghz my laptop sometimes struggles to cope when multiple programs are open.
