Right now I am using Galaxy C9 PRO and my wife is using A9 PRO. Both are very good. Jio has CA using Band 3 + Band 5 (1800MHz and 850MHz) in most places and in some recent sites its Band 3 + Band 40 (1800MHz & 2300MHz). A9 PRO supports them and I have experienced great speeds. Though Samsung doesn't show LTE-A or LTE+ in signal, we can confirm them via dialing *#0011# on native dialer. Right now I am using C9 pro, because it is having SRVCC facility, which is NOT available in A9 PRO. My main number is in Airtel. Airtel has started testing VoLTE. SRVCC allows calls to fall from VoLTE to 3G without DROPPING it, when we are on call while moving from 4G coverage to 3G or 2G coverage. Only SD625, 626, 630, 653 (used in C9 pro), 835 currently supports SRVCC (not sure about lower end ones). Even SD821 (used in OP3T and LG G6) or 652 (used in A9 PRO) doesn't support SRVCC. But A9 pro supports many LTE bands, including upcoming 700MHz one on Band 28 and 900MHz on Band 8, both are not supported in C9 PRO (at least not till now, may be enabled later via update). Further A9 PRO has better battery life (5000mAh vs 4000mAh of C9 pro) and very very cheaper now. Advantage of both phones is, you can use Airtel for DATA on 3G and still get incoming calls on JIO. It is great feature to use, where Jio data speed is too low, but you want to get calls on both numbers. This feature is supported in very few phones, mostly Samsung. Go for any of them, you will be happy, imho.

^^^ Seems exactly like that. A very important observation. Even I got nowhere with AirHELL in the past, even after complaining to DoT. RCom and even Docomo though do pay heed to it.

Raja's arrest too little too late: BJP The Economic Times l 2 Feb l New Delhi BJP today dubbed the arrest of former Telecom Minister A Raja as "too little too late" and demanded that others involved in the 2G spectrum scam should also be brought to book. "The arrest is too little too late. It is very unfair to say that Raja alone had gulped Rs 1.76 lakh crore. Who are the rest of the people? BJP categorically wants to know that," BJP spokesperson Rajiv Pratap Rudy said. He said Raja's arrest was just beginning of an exercise. "Please don't give credit to the government for the arrest. Government has to answer many questions before this finally comes to an end," he said.

Good news for the customers whose operator has no 3g license in their circle. But what about the 3G tariff by the private players? Initially the tariffs may be sky high.If 3 biggies form an alliance to share the revenue.Hard times for the customer to escape their high tariffs.

The termination charges should be fixed at 10p - 15p from the current 20p. We shouldnt pray for anything further as the network will DETERIORATE then. The call rates in India are already among the lowest in the world at less than $0.01 a minute and the Operators are under immense pressure. Such drops will be suicidal for all.

Ghaziabad is part of Delhi circle. Please check if you can get network in Delhi. I got a Delhi SIM presently on roaming at Kolkata. Went to a main RCom Store in Kolkata for adhaar linking snd bio-metric verification today. The store guy without even asking for any further details point black refused saying that RCom is closing down and not doing any bio-metric verification. After what we faced during CDMA to LTE conversion, this brings fear.

Jio is just creating more confusion and nothing else. Also the early adopters have been left in a lurch. I still recall they had given a similar Rs 50 discount offer during May when summer surprise we ending and lot of people like me did multiple recharges of Rs 303 . Today all those recharges are a loss as we are getting only 1 month plan under the 303 plan and only 1 GB data for 28 days. While now by just paying Rs 100 more, folks are getting 84 days 1 GB data. So i would not jump and do too many recharges and blindly follow jio offers as they are misleading and may come up with something better post 19th.

Wow.. Confusing as usual.. I beg Mr. Ambani to NOT bring Rs399/84 days type plans again. Here network has become very unreliable, especially voice. Not only for Jio, even Airtel / Voda / BSNL and all others' network is like sh!t due to intense competition. Airtel also has brought stupid plans like 30GB + last month unused data for Rs649 and as expected now their network is also horrible. The default plan of Rs309 for 28 days is NOT bad, even Rs449 for 56 days is OK, but not worse than that please, pretty please... I am sure, I will be in minority here, but quality is important than quantity, in my humble opinion.

It is not yet clear - Jio has not confirmed for second recharge yet. May be this is why they are giving 100% cashback as it will be then totally free even if for 28 days. It is better to buy ₹399 as Voucher under My Vouchers so that it can be used with any other number in future to avail 84 days validity (& 100% refund too as ₹50 *8 cashback vouchers) in case benefit is not provided for 2nd recharge. No The cashback cannot be gifted in isolation. It is not transferable so it may not be available for redemption while recharging other numbers. But the cashback will automatically get gifted when you gift the Rs 399 voucher to someone as the cashback will only be credited once this voucher of Rs.399 is redeemed and will be credited to the MyJio account of person redeeming the recharge voucher of 399.

As per experience of some users, 1st & 2nd 399 recharge gives 84 days validity. Also, if you are Amazon user, Amazon is offering 101 cashback on Jio 399 recharge via Amazon Pay for first time recharge transaction. Same offer is also available through Phonepe. So you effectively pay 299 and get 8 discount vouchers of 50 each. Recharged via Amazon and got 8 vouchers in My Jio immediately. The Recharge is queued in My plans. Vouchers are not transferable. But It is possible to recharge any number from My Jio so should be possible to use with any number as long as recharged from your own My Jio app.

New offers will be announced on 19th October 2017. Further there is a new offer (₹50 Cashback) for those who are planning to buy ₹399. The offer is available from 12th to 18th October. Under the new Diwali Dhan Dhana Dhan offer, Jio Prime customers who purchase the Rs. 399 recharge pack between October 12 and October 18 will get eight vouchers of Rs. 50, totalling Rs. 400. The vouchers can be redeemed against future recharges of Rs. 309 or above for plans, and Rs. 91 or above data add-ons. Only one voucher can be redeemed at a time, and customers can redeem the vouchers after November 15 only. So, for example, after you get a Rs. 50 voucher, you can use it to buy a recharge of Rs. 309, and you will only need to pay Rs. 259 via debit card, credit card, netbanking, or other payment means.

Good News for Jio ₹149 plan users. Jio has upgraded its ₹149 plan & is now offering unlimited data on this basic plan. While most other plans from Jio come with a post FUP speed of 128 Kbps, the ₹149 plan will come with a post FUP speed of 64 Kbps. Earlier, Jio was offering 2GB 4G data, unlimited voice calls and 300 SMSs with a validity of 28 days. So, once you finished your 2GB data, you could no longer use data unless you buy a booster pack. But now Jio has updated its plans on its website and added a post FUP speed of 64 Kbps. According to the updated plans, users will get a post FUP speed of 64 Kbps once they finish their 2GB 4G data. Apart from this, there is no other change in the ₹149 plan. Users who recharge with ₹149 will now get 2GB 4G data, post FUP speed of 64 Kbps, unlimited voice calls, 300 SMSs and unlimited access to Jio’s suite of apps.

Sir, I am telling about that handset which is physically tested with CA. As per wikipedia list, all mentioned handset don’t support CA physically. For example none of the xiaomi and sony phones support CA in india physically. Even one plus 3/3t is mentioned but not supporting physically. Htc a9 mentioned but not supporting, only htc 10 supported. Htc u11 I never used or any of my relative didn’t used, so i don’t have idea. I never used samsung phone, so cann’t comment about any model of samsung. Yesterday I bought a9 pro after taking advice from you itself and it is working great. I just want to say sir, many of the handset that should support CA , actually not supporting physically in india..

Idea Cellular slashed the rates of its 4G, 3G BIG Internet packs by upto 67%, providing more value to heavy internet users who consume data packs of 2GB to 10 GB. Last week, Idea had announced the price reduction by 45% in its sachet data packs. Idea is now offering 10 GB 4G, 3G data pack for just Rs. 990. Idea’s 2 GB data is now priced at just Rs 349, as against the earlier price of Rs 449. Idea users will now get 5 GB of 4G and 3G data at Rs 649 – a 67% more value than 3GB data earlier. Idea’s new BIG Internet packs will give both postpaid and prepaid data users the convenience to download movies, stream songs and play online games without worrying about data balance. Commenting on the recent rate revision, Mr. Sashi Shankar, Chief Marketing Officer, Idea Cellular, said, “While the price reduction in our sachet data packs was aimed at inducting more users into the world of internet; the reduction in rates of BIG Recharge packs now, is aimed at delivering significantly higher Value for Money to our regular internet users. Our consumer research studies have indicated a growing demand for affordable high volume internet packs which we are aiming to fulfil with the new offers.” http://rtn.asia/t-t/20323/following-airtel-idea-cellular-also-slashes-4g-rates-ahead-reliance-jio-launch Airtel has today slashed data tariffs for its 2G, 3G and 4G prepaid users. In essence, the company has increased the amount of data one gets on each plan by up to 67 percent. Airtel’s announcement comes days after Idea Cellular too slashed prepaid data tariffs by up to 45 percent. The moves come after reports of Reliance Jio planning to launch its services next month. Even if it doesn’t launch commercially, Reliance Jio is expanding its free Preview Offer from just LYF smartphones to Samsung Galaxy smartphones and even Apple iPhones. Under the revised plans, a user opting for Rs 655 monthly pack will now get 5GB of 4G data as opposed to 3GB earlier. In other words, the user gets 67 percent data benefit. Similarly, users opting for Rs 989 or Rs 455 plans will get 10GB (up from 6.5GB) and 3GB (up from 2GB) data respectively. http://www.bgr.in/news/reliance-jio-effect-airtel-slashes-data-tariffs-for-prepaid-plans-by-up-to-67-percent/ Now RJio 4G plans are costlier than Airtel and Idea. Expecting Vodafone to also match the Airtel and Idea rates.

Starting a new thread to get and make the information available on different 3G plans. I feel the requirement because now I feel that I would switch from RCDMA to some other GSM provider which provides competitive rates for 3G services. For last 2 years of so, I am using Idea and RCDMA with Motorola XT800. The voice requirement is served with idea and EVDO is from RCDMA. On RCDMA, I am on Zero Rental plan and pay only for data when I use. I dont have any add-on pack for it. At the max I get 20 Rs. of the bill per month. Because I also have 100 MB of data free on Idea. I keep the data always ON on my phone. For calling on viber, Kakao, skype I use EVDO. For other surfing purposes, EDGE is sufficient. But now, purely from the reason of having better and affordable handset, I want to move to GSM+GSM. So even though having the best association with RCDMA, unavailability of good and affordable CDMA+GSM handset, I would make a move. It would be sad to leave RCDMA's association which is now almost 9/10 yrs old. I would like this thread to provide information on different data plans (Only 3G - GSM). I got this info so far - RGSM - Rs. 123 - 1GB Airtel - Rs. 252 - 1GB Aircel - Rs. 198 - 1GB BSNL - Rs. 250 - 1GB Idea - Rs. 250 - 1GB Docomo - Rs. 93 - 600 MB + 500 mins. Vodafone - Rs. 250 - 1GB I would search for pay-as-you go rates and update here shortly. Edit: Updated with direct links

TRAI further modified pesky calls/SMS regulation today. Now if there is an unsolicited commercial communication from a subscriber who is not registered as a telemarketer, the telecom service provider will be liable to pay Rs 5,000 as penalty on each complaint. When such unsolicited commercial communication contains reference to another telephone number or an entity such as banks, insurance companies, builders, for which the commercial transaction has been solicited, the telecom resources issued to the subscriber/ entity for which commercial transaction has been solicited, shall be disconnected across all service providers on receipt of a complaint, after serving notices each on the first and the second complaint. New complaint number to get unwanted mobile VAS deactivated. Telecom consumers can now register complaint about wrongful activation of value added services (VAS) like mobile Internet and caller tunes on a new common number, 155223, for all operators. Telecom operators will have to refund the amount charged for such activation of services if consumers inform about it within 24 hours on this common number. The service has been put in place by telecom operators jointly after telecom regulator Trai refused to give them any leeway in such cases from February 2. Operators reported compliance to Telecom Regulatory Authority of India on February 1. "A common solution has now been devised for all of industry which will enable simple and easy exit. It came onto force on February 1," Trai Chairman Rahul Khullar told PTI. Subscribers who have been using any value added services beyond 24 hours can also request for deactivation of service on this number. Telecom operator will have to deactivate service within four hours of getting phone call but the customer will not be eligible to claim refund in such cases. On July 4, 2011 Trai directed telecom operators to obtain explicit consent of consumers "through consumer originated SMS or e-mail or FAX or in writing within 24 hrs of activation of the value added service and charge the consumer only if the confirmation is received from him" for subscribing it. The industry has objected to this direction and estimated Rs 12,000 crore revenue loss and over 10,000 job loss on complying with the direction. After failing to convince the regulator, industry body representing GSM players COAI approached telecom tribunal TDSAT but lost. The Telecom Disputes Settlement and Appellate Tribunal (TDSAT) gave telecom operators three months time (till February 2) to comply with the direction. As per the rule, operators will have to take consent of subscribers before activating any VAS and deactivate it without charging for it if no consent is received from them. Trai has asked operators to inform their subscribers about the new facility and also publish its details in newspapers. http://economictimes.indiatimes.com/news/news-by-industry/telecom/new-complaint-number-to-get-unwanted-mobile-vas-deactivated/articleshow/18369522.cms

Telecom Companies to hike call tariffs by almost 100% In a blow to consumers, both Bharti Airtel and Idea Cellular have increased their call tariff rates by nearly 100 per cent. While Bharti Airtel has doubled the call rates from Re 1 per minute to Rs 2 per minute, Idea has also gone for a steep hike from 1.2 paise per second to 2 paise per second. According to ET Now, the substantial increase in rates indicates that pricing power has returned to the telecom sector, with incumbents likely to have more flexibility going forward. In a written reply to ET Now, Bharti Airtel said that the hike was inevitable and revision in rates is in line with increasing costs. "We have been reiterating that increase in prices is inevitable, which is reflected from the fact that despite rising costs, tariffs have been falling over the past 12 quarters," Bharti Airtel said in a statement. A source with direct knowledge separately told Reuters that Bharti Airtel is reducing free minutes by up to a quarter and has increased prices of some call vouchers for prepaid customers by Rs 5-15.The call price increase will be extended to all of 22 telecommunications zones in a phased manner, the source said, declining to be named. The plan to up call rates has been submitted with the telecom regulator TRAI. ET Now did not rule out the possibility of an intervention from TRAI on the same. With an aim to protect consumer interests, TRAI may intervene in the call rate hike decision, ET Now said. Earlier this month, Bharti Airtel and Vodafone hiked tariffs for 2G data services. Airtel revised its 1GB 2G data plan from Rs 100 to Rs 125. "This nominal price revision is subject to rate elasticity, customer demand and supporting cost structures. Our recent revision...is an increase of only 2-3 paise per MB. It continues to be an excellent value proposition for our customers," an Airtel spokesperson had said. Vodafone too has made similar changes in the monthly plans and has reduced data limits available under various prepaid plans. While the Rs 95 plan (28 days validity) is now available for Rs 124, others plans allowing 250 MB data usage and 150 MB usage have been reduced to 150 MB and 100MB, respectively Source http://economictimes.indiatimes.com/news/news-by-industry/telecom/Bharti-Airtel-and-Idea-hike-call-tariffs-by-almost-100/articleshow/18144804.cms

BWA spectrum was for 2.3 GHz frequency band. This is meant for LTE-TDD. LTE TDD will be preferable for data services. Wimax is abandoned across the world, even BSNL has surrendered their spectrum. LTE FDD will be preferable for telephony services. It is supported on 700 Mhz band. Currently, these bands are allocated to Doordarshan and AIR for tv broadcasting. DOT wants DD to surrender these bands, unless these happens there are very few bands available in this range.

@Rajanmehta, Welcome to the all new RCOM, where you have to threaten them with complaints to the GoI. Only then, they will take action. This is indeed bad and also very sad state of affairs at RCOM. I think we have lost the old reliable RCOM to a new very mean and selfish RCOM where the only way of increasing ARPUs is by cheating, cheating and more cheating. Anyway, congrats to you on getting the refund finally. You showed utmost patience with them and got your refund finally, although you had to take the GoI's help. +1 to you for the finer details and superb chronology of events in your post.

Other things aside, I'm really surprised to know that only 11% users have registered with the DNC Registry. How do the remaining 89% survive without it? Or is it that Indians just love being harassed? I used to get 20 - 30 calls+SMS everyday on RGSM and Idea (each), before registering for DND. If you have two connections, just imagine how much time you would waste and the irritation caused.

The termination charges for SMS was fixed at 10 paisa but TRAI never monitored the transactions in SMS charges which resulted in operators sending messages without paying any termination charges to each other. The business logic for operators was that SMS constitutes a major chunk of their traffic thus non-charging would negate any payment towards termination charges. This resulted in operators offering free SMS packs with mutual understanding. This started choking the networks as new entrants also started the same practice of offering free or lower SMS rates pack. Older telecos are not comfortable with new entrants utilizing similar strategy as majority of old customers reside on their network. Thus Bharti Airtel recently started charging 10 paisa as termination charges without dolling out any favors to other networks Currently a voice call is charged less than a SMS. The SMS charges ranges from 50 paisa - Rs.1 without considering any value added package plans. Thus the levying of termination charges will bring transparency to the whole messaging system at the same time see irrational telecom packages going out of market and SMS charges falling inline with calling charges. This move will hardly increase SMS charges but if TRAI interferes to bring down the SMS prices as majority of this revenues goes into operators kitty it could start a downfall in SMS charges. The operators currently earn a hefty profit through messaging as network cost is minimal in terminating messages thus they needs to bring rationality in their chtarges to benefit the subscribers
