  11. Gadgets Of Our World

Microsoft Kinect 'fastest-selling device on record' Microsoft has sold more than 10 million Kinect sensor systems since launch on 4 November, and - according to Guinness World Records - is the fastest-selling consumer electronics device on record. The sales figures outstrip those of both Apple's iPhone and iPad when launched, Guinness said. Kinect is an infrared camera add-on for Microsoft's Xbox 360 games console that allows it to track body movements. More than 10 million games have been sold worldwide to date, it added. Gaz Davies, editor of Guinness World Records 2011 Gamer's Edition, said: "We can confirm that no other consumer electronics device sold faster within a 60-day time span, an incredible achievement considering the strength of the sector." Guinness World Records said that Microsoft sold eight million devices between 4 November last year and 3 January at an average rate of 133,333 a day. Source: BBC.co.uk
  12. Apple has released its new operating system, iOS 4.3. The new download, available via iTunes from the company’s website, comes two days earlier than Apple had initially planned. New developments in the software include significantly faster web browsing, because the company has updated the way iOS handles Javascript. It also now allows content to be shared around the home via a user’s wifi network, and includes enhancements to AirPlay so that enabled Apps and photos can be displayed on a big screen via Apple TV. Perhaps the single biggest update, however, allows iPhone users to share their data connection via WiFi; the hotspotting, a feature that Google’s rival Android operating system has included for some time, can be shared by up to five other users. Bluetooth and USB can also be used to share the data connection. iOS4.3 also allows iPad users to define whether the side switch on the device mutes the volume on the device or locks its orientation. Apple is preparing to release iPad 2 in America tomorrow. The thinner, lighter version of the original, best-selling iPad goes on sale at 5pm local time, and then in the UK and other markets a fortnight later. The new operating system was announced during the iPad 2 launch. Software experts who have examined iOS4.3 suggest that it contains evidence that the fortchoming iPhone 5 could be powered by the A5 processor used in the iPad 2. iOS 4.3 can be applied to the iPhone 4, the iPhone 3GS, the iPad, and the third- and fourth-generation iPod Touch. 13. Nokia X1-00 Music Phone

^ Better it is Nokia succeeding than low cost Chinese mobiles flooding the market and jeopardizing OEMs.
  14. MNP Retention Offer You Received

    ^ Good for you brother.
  15. Trai To Script Vas Norms

^ No I did not make any references to you, I was just commenting on the post which shows number of complaints and stating that TRAI is a lame duck as most of the regulatory authorities in our country. They just introduce rules but not implement them. You are correct in your statement. The regulatory authorities need to be empowered else they are effectively doing nothing. Edit guess you were replying to Rajan ji, our posts were at same time.
  16. Trai To Script Vas Norms

What does TRAI do when they get these complaints except sitting on them, just see the date when this thread was started and still unauthorized VAS menace continues unabated, no point in TRAI just scripting norms unless it enforces them.
  17. MNP Retention Offer You Received

^ Yes you can but ask for more than 100 rupees discount in talk time, might be also ask for SMS 1p pack tariff waiver etc., as your rental is remaining same if you remain in 440 plan. I think your requirement is RCDMA-RCDMA STD free, in that case there are only two options that retention department are giving - either 440 or ARP4999. If you are sure to remain with RCDMA and your requirement is fixed for 1 year then instead of 440 go for ARP4999 plan where you pay 4999 plus tax as rental upfront for a year (comes less than 440 rental per month), then you pay only usge amount in each bill. The offnet call charges in ARP4999 are much lower of 40p local and 75p STD. But with ARP4999 you would not get additional discount as it is already a retention plan.
  18. Updated Palm Pre Plus To 2.1.0

    Good info thanks.
  19. Android-Number 1 Smartphone Platform Now

The latest figures for American smartphone usage reveal that the new Windows Phone 7 platform has not halted Microsoft’s decline in the category. Data from comScore MobiLens shows a 1.7 per cent fall in Microsoft's share, from 9.7 per cent to 8 per cent in the three months ending in January 2011. Google’s Android operating system rose by 7.7 per cent and Apple’s iOS platform showed a 0.1 per cent increase. BlackBerry-maker Research in Motion showed a decline in line with recent trends, from 35.8 per cent to 30.4 per cent. Microsoft’s Windows Phone 7 software was launched at the end of October in Europe and Asia, and at the beginning of November in North America. The new figures are the first to include the period when it was on sale, and indicate that customers are continuing to leave Microsoft in favour of other operating systems, despite the new software. Microsoft’s deal with Nokia and with some US carriers may, however, stem that tide. At Mobile World Congress in Barcelona executives who did not wish to be named reported that Microsoft was disappointed with sales and consumer impressions of WP7. The company announced some updates to the platform at the show. Data from Nielsen, however, puts Microsoft on a 10 per cent share of the American market over the same period. It places Android on 29 per cent and both Apple and BlackBerry on 27 per cent. Source: telegraph.co.uk
  20. MNP Retention Offer You Received

Great plan but how many users would go for multiple MNPs given that most port outs are taking long and is a harrowing experience for the users.
  21. Good info however why any third party app market would work, when all OSes have built in app markets with great app collections (market in android, app store in iOS etc.), sure some third party markets like appbrain work but they provide additional features e.g. installing app on PC and syncing to phone. Why would someone just want a customized app for a separate app store confuses me, just like notion ink adam uses genesys app store instead of normal market (though in all fairness the adam runs 2.2+ and market for only tabs is not available till 3.0, the galaxy tab has a phone chip specifically to have market).
  22. Motorola Atrix 4G-The Monster

The other thing is it might have an encrypted bootloader, definitely has locked bootloader like all Motos but has been already unlocked on XDA, but in addition if it is encrypted then no custom kernels. Still it is THE phone to beat in terms of hardware specifications.
  23. How to remove Phone.apk to improve battery life?

Please provide a review of the product when possible, thanks.
  24. Google Cloud Music Store Coming Soon

Thanks for the info. @Racoon, true, mobiles are also going the PC way in terms of processor speed development, but without advances in screen/battery it will not be sustainable and manufacturers need to focus on usability-performance balance, think that is where Apple has an edge right now.
