Kamalbhai - read your linked post, you have mentioned Orange. I have used Orange, they have very good GSM network. I used to get unlimited UK landline calls, 100 messages, 300 any mobile network minutes, all for 15 pounds a month. And for 35 pounds you get more minutes, messages and unlimited internet. There is another provider called 3 owned by Hutchinson, and they used to give unlimited free Skype calls on their network. That is the level of affordability Indian service providers should target. There is huge potential and vast untapped market.

In rimweb often the buy sell forum is most active so this problem is less here but still increasing. In sites like XDA this is a major issue. Your idea is very good but no need to manually merge existing problem solving threads. Instead there could be a sticky thread named Q&A in each section. This thread will contain links to the problem solving threads. Whenever a new problem solving thread is added, it can be linked to the Q&A thread. And also members must be encouraged to follow search in Q&A threads before posting.

A 2008 photo of Win7? And also no tablet PC has desktop style taskbars complete with volume button, start button, quick launch button etc. Till winmo 6.1 we used to have computer style interface and that is why no one used it. So I am pretty sure in Win7 tablet they would not make same mistake. A tablet would have redesigned UI. Anyway it is proven these are photoshopped so no point discussing.

Both images are fake, first one has a 2008 date in top left corner, and the second one shows the windows desktop taskbar. Though it would be good if they do come up with a sliding keyboard tablet. That would blow iPad out of the water.

Using the ADB rm method will still keep the entries of the removed apps in Manage Applications list. To remove them one needs to use adb uninstall. The Titanium Backup Pro is an easier option. Please be careful while uninstalling apps, for safe apps list please check XDA threads.

Google launched Chrome OS today, which I guess will take this privacy question to a next level. Because Chrome OS is radically different from other existing OS like Linux/Windows/MacOS, in the sense that Chrome is a cloud based OS rather than a traditional offline OS. All of the user's data - be it word documents, playlists, user settings or surfing habits - will presumably be stored online on Google's servers. The computer will immediately connect to the internet after booting (booting time will be superfast, needless to say) and the user will not even feel that they are doing even the most mundane tasks online.
This is a very different approach to OSes, and great for accessiblity from anywhere/portability/cloud computing. No more pains in setting up all software/settings after formatting your computer or after buying a new computer. Just login to Chrome OS using account and everything will be there - voila! Imagine - your entire computing time - online.
To me it is frightening because it erases the boundaries between online and offline. To me it poses an uncomforable question - who has rights over my data, who has rights over my computer usage patterns - me or Google? Did I authorize Google to collect data over every single keystroke pressed in my computer - even when doing a traditionally offline task such as typing out a word document? How do I stop someone from intruding into my offline computing life?

Government of India statistics reveal that only three out of ten girls who enter Std. I complete Std. X. At primary school level, over 45% of girls dropout of school and this increases to over 73% by the time the child has reached Std. X. Research has shown that reasons for this dropout may be as minor as the girl child not being able to afford a dress/uniform to go to school and could include more complex factors like girls taking on the responsibility of household chores at a very young age as a result of gender stereotyping.
What is Nanhi Kali?
Project Nanhi Kali was initiated in 1996 by the K C Mahindra Education Trust (KCMET) with the aim of providing primary education to underprivileged girl children in India.
Anand Mahindra, the founder of Nanhi Kali, believed that educated women form the foundation of a modern secular society and felt that there was a strong correlation between the existing societal ills in India such as spiralling population rate, dowry deaths, caste system etc and no education of the girl child. He believed that empowering the girl child with education would result in huge benefits for the nation in the long term.
Impact
1. Project Nanhi Kali currently supports the education of over 57,000 underprivileged girl children from poor urban, remote rural, tribal and conflict afflicted communities across 7 states of Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka and New Delhi.
2. The project has witnessed a significant increase in both enrolment of girls and attendance of girls in schools.
3. Drop out rates of girls have been curtailed to less than 10% within the programme compared to national level figures of 30% at Primary level and 70% at the Secondary School level.
4. Further assessments done by a third party have reported an increase in learning outcomes ranging from 40% improvement in tribal Chhattisgarh to 78% in Mumbai slums within a period of a year.
What can we do?
Project Nanhi Kali is a participatory project where any individual or corporate can sponsor the education of a disadvantaged girl child for only Rs. 1800 a year (for a girl studying in Std. 1 - 7) or Rs. 2500 a year (for a girl studying in Std 8-10).
This comes out to be around INR 5 (for a girl studying in Std. 1 - 7) or INR 7 (for a girl studying in Std 8-10) a day. Plus the donation is tax exempted.
What does the Nanhi Kali donor receive?
Each Nanhi Kali donor receives a detailed profile of the girl they sponsor along with her photograph and two progress reports to keep them updated of how she is faring in both academic as well as extra curricular activities.

Hi,
I had recently taken My Truly Unlimited Onnet (995 rental) plan. Yet to be activated though. The customer care exec told me that unlimited calls can be made to reliance cdma/gsm/walky, and for gsm mentioned specifically that rcom gsm is only unlimited. I would like to make calls to west bengal, and it seems reliance gsm is not there (my mistake, i didnt checked it). It seems, there is a smart card option.
Can somebody tell me what is this smart card option, and can I make unlimited calls to that smart card under this plan.

Are you on RCDMA and your WB number is also on RCDMA? Then take the Rs 770 unlimited onnet pack. I use the same to call Kolkata from Bangalore.

True I forgot to mention that categories will inevitably have overlaps, and there one will have to use some judgement to make the categories as far mutually exclusive as possible. It is not about making everyone happy, but it is about making the polls broad based so that we can award more winners instead of just one - so that winners in each category who are doing the good work get motivated and continue to excel - and those who come close seconds in each category also up their game and strive to win. Healthy competition = good for community.

@Rajan true but this is the first time we are having such a vote right? Effectively this is a baseline not an incremental YoY vote. Hence many members including myself am having the dilemma, though it is a good dilemma to have
because it means the forum has many stalwarts who are contributing.If this vote is made an annual exercise then in next edition things will be smoother. Other way is to make nominations in different categories.

However was very confused as to whom to vote as all the nominees are winners in their own right so choosing one is difficult.
Initially I had thought suggesting to Rajan it might be better to keep several categories and make the awards more broad-based ala filmfare awards (instead of choosing one winner) e.g.
Best techie - Mufaddal, HetalDP, Kesav, Kshah, Dkaile, Dj etc
Best seller - Sadikk, Hitesh, Tushar, Gauravjc, Senthil, Shripal etc

The 2.27.651.6 is rootable via 1-click Androot. 2.31.651.7 is not directly rootable via this because it has a root exploit patch.

You will first need to download 2.27.651.6 Sprint ROM from Hitesh's ROM post (http://www.rimweb.in/forums/topic/26722-all-roms-in-one-post/). Then connect your phone to PC and run the RUU on your PC to upgrade your ROM.
If you want root, you can use 1 click Androot method (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=753910).
After this if you want a custom ROM you can optionally upgrade to rooted 2.31.651.7 ROM (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=790889).

I will put my neck out and say real time monitoring of voice/data communication is required provided (and this is the operative word)the data collection is handled by the IB i.e. government itself and not by ISPs/telecom operators. There must be provisions to ensure that the data collected is encrypted, and remain safe. We cannot entrust public/private operators to do this monitoring. It must be done only by the government.
I know most members will disagree and say this is invasion of privacy etc. but fact is, in the dangerous world we live in, surveillance is required real-time. Outdated policing methods will not work, preemptive action is the only option. The intelligence agencies must know of threats before they are carried out.
Most of us are already giving all our personal data to ubiquitous third party - Google - GMail, GTalk, Youtube, Orkut, Chrome browser, Android, Chrome OS etc. with very little concerns(Dkaile ji had infact opened a thread for such issue).
It is only when our government asks for it that we have a tendency to cry foul.
Most developed countries already have such evesdropping mechanisms in place since way back. The CIA has been monitoring citizen's calls for years - and this is public domain information, god knows what else they are monitoring. In the UK there is highest concentration of CCTVs, infact on average a person is photographed over 1000 times daily in London. There is a proposal by UK government to stop porn at ISP end for households with children. I will not give more examples as the list of big brother activities in these countries is endless. I have read even there the people are angry at obtrusion and there have been cries of police state but at the end of the day, they know what is required for national security and they comply.
Bottom line is, if monitoring is required for national security then do it. But do it efficiently and do not dither over it. We cannot afford another 26/11.
PS I do not think that this real time monitoring will be done in the end. There will be hue and cry from operators and the government will backtrack. If it really meant to do it, then the government would have ensured that all operators are compliant with this from day 1. After all, cyber crime has been going on for long time (recently the CBI website was hacked by friends across the border and was down for multiple days), so operators and government had enough time. So I think this will mostly be a gimmick with no real results.
