Virgin Mobile Is Here For The Youth, Courtesy Tata
sougatadc replied to Arun's topic in Other Network / Cellular Providers
Not at all! It will be a simple procedure to recognise the identity of a Virgin Mobile call and a few recorded messages will meet the requirements. While they can handle such a big deal, why on earth they will not take care of such a small & trivial thing? Rest assured, my dear friends, you will hear customised voice response for Virgin also. Regards... -
My Dear Basant, Please take the pain to check it once before you comment. I am not at all against BSNL or MTNL, but it is a matter or fact that although there is roaming agreement between them for Delhi & Mumbai, they fail to provide seamless roaming. People enjoy voice roaming and never complain, but when data roaming fails, there is none to help you. This also happens in different GSM zones. With proper zonal configuration for GPRS/EDGE also it fails when you roam into different zone. Regards..

Hi Vishal, I am unable to attach the tone you wanted. I have made it in mp3 format, but Rimweb is not allowing uploading of any attachment. Actually, the attach option is missing when I am clicking on the 'REPLY' tab. Anyways, I have uploaded it in rapidshare. Please download it from there. Here is the link: http://rapidshare.com/files/98708616/Kuchh_Is_Tarah.mp3.html Just click on the 'Free' tab if you don't have any premium subscription. Wait for the code, enter it in the proper window and download it. Regards... -
I am afraid, this Rs 274 is not for unlimited, is it? At our place, AirTel unlimited costs Rs 550. Actually it varies from zone to zone. And Idea is present only in few pockets. So, Reliance GPRS is a good option.

Harnessing Mobile Technology For Railways
sougatadc replied to Honest's topic in General Technical Discussion
Good idea, My dear Kamal, but IRCTC's site sometimes behave erratically. I have purchased ticket through it quite a few number of times but in a couple of instances it failed at the final step (even after debiting in full from my AXIS Bank account) and tickets was not generated. The amount debited was credited back to my account withing 48 working hours. But I had to queue up at Railway reservation counter for the tickets. Hence e-ticketing or i-ticketing through mobile will gain popularity only when the whole process starts working without a snag. It is not like calling somebody over a phone, getting the line snapped and going for another try. One snap during the ticketing process after the account is debited means you get headache. Yes, MVNO is going to be the next big in-thing in Indian telecom. BSNL is also contemplating MVNO venture. -

Yes, a free uim replacement is required. Let us also wait and watch what happens when GSM service is launched. Whether the existing CDMA subscribers are offered with options to migrate into GSM service with their number retained or not. -
I don't think so, my dear Kamal. I have had bitter experience with BSNL GPRS in roaming (I had unlimited Rs199 plan). It stopped working whenever I was in Delhi or Mumbai and even in South India the configuration did not match. When I was in Hyderabad, I changed the access point configurations as per southern circle requirements, but it refused to work. I went to BSNL head office there but no one was there to help. Then I contacted a leading BSNL franchisee, but he also could not do much. So, let us don't hope much about seamless roaming in data card also. Regards...

Reliance has launched mobile internet on GSM silently (I don't know why. Its CDMA sibling is quite extrovert) and finding details about anything in the official website is difficult; and sometimes it is impossible also. Anyways, regarding your query, it has been launched in December last year and unlimited usage costs Rs 303 for a month. EDGE is not omnipresent. Regards...

Okay, my dear friend Hetal, your approach is adorable. Now please move ahead. Regards...

Let us welcome the first member user of Virgin mobile on this forum. The pro-rata idea of crediting is great. But lack of openness with Tata uim is condemnable. Tata should look into the matter early and get rid of the problem. Their own product should not have such problems. -
If Rs. 6500 can be afforded, then why not go for HTC S-310 SMARTPHONE which has Windows 5.0 OS, 1.3 MP Camera, Bluetooth and many more. Check it here.

^^^ Except Delhi & Mumbai my dear friend. Regards. Then, the problem remains live. Similar in GSM, subscribers might find problem in seamless roaming in data services into Delhi or Mumbai from other places of India.

Why are you trying to baffle, Adisa? You have broken the norms of this forum and now redirecting the thread into another? Please stop doing all these.

But the truth is, BSNL remains to be highly confused organisation about maintaining CDMA as one of their success niche. They launched various services including WLL bFone as well as 'Tarang' mobile on CDMA platform at different places, but actually, one cannot subscribe to these services across the desk easily, even in cities like Kolkata and Siliguri. More importantly, BSNL's CDMA signal is weak and available in restricted pockets. So one cannot roam. MTNL is somewhat better, albeit it is restricted in Mumbai and Delhi. Regards...

@Kamal Yes, these are in Indonesian language as rightly pointed out by Rakesh. I am giving the meaning of the words written in two threads above. Sini=here, deh= I agree, juta= million, pun=1, gua= cave, embat=down with strip of bamboo, capek = tired, kasi = give, put.... I have got these from Live Indonesian 2 English Translation website. As none of us know the grammer of Indonesian language, I cannot give the right meaning of the sentences. But it is clear that these guys don't have anything to do with Rimweb. They are disturbing the forum, and I think Arun should take necessary action.

That's really a good news, Arun. -
150MB will surely not suffice mere e-mailing on a regular basis. This plan will be a huge flop.

With Virgin mobile in hand, there will be an illegal means of recharge your phone when you run out of balance - just call your own number from any phone ( this will be a regular practice from any office phone) and keep the call on. You go on accumulating credit on your mobile @10paisa per minute. Ha ha ha.... Thank you, Sir Branson. -

Virgin Mobile, a unit of British communications group Virgin Media, has launched youth-focused services in India through telecom operator Tata Teleservices, officials from the companies said on Sunday. Tata Teleservices, India's No. 2 CDMA mobile operator, will launch Virgin Mobile in 50 cities initially and in more than 1,000 cities by the year end, Virgin Group Chairman Sir Richard Branson said. It expects to get 5 million subscribers over the first three years with special value-added services and handsets priced at Rs 2,000-5,000 , he said. "This is Virgin Mobile's seventh launch globally and Virgin's largest investment to date in India," he said, without specifying financial details. "The Indian market is growing like no other market in the world," he said, referring to the nearly 8 million new mobile users who sign on every month, drawn by very low call rates. India is the world's fastest-growing mobile services market, attracting foreign firms including Vodafone Plc and SingTel, which has a stake in leader Bharti Airtel. Virgin Mobile estimates there are 215 million urban youth mobile subscribers and an additional 50 million urban youth subscribers over the next three years. It expects revenue in this segment will be in excess of 350 billion rupees in 2010, said Jamie Heywood, deputy CEO of Virgin Mobile in India. Foreign ownership in mobile service providers is capped at 74 per cent in India. Branson has criticised the tight controls in sectors such as telecoms, airlines and retail. Tata Teleservices and its subsidiary Tata Telservices (Maharashtra) Ltd , provide services in 20 of India's 23 telecoms zones, and had more than 22 million subscribers at end-January. Branson's Virgin Group , which encompasses planes, trains, automobiles, space travel and personal finance, operates flights to London from India, but is not allowed to own a stake in a domestic carrier. The group also has a minority stake in a private FM radio operator, Fever, controlled by HT Media Ltd Virgin Comics is partnering India's Studio 18 and broadcaster UTV Software Communications Ltd in publishing, television, film and gaming. "India is a very attractive market to be in," said Branson, who recently beat Jesus Christ in a UK survey to find the top role model for children. "If we can't do well here, we can't do well anywhere else." Tata officials said their service would now have two brands: Tata Indicom for the mass market and Virgin for the niche youth market. The Virgin-based service would offer the extra zing that young users want, such as music, games and downloads. Virgin and Tata hope the alliance will break even at a user base of 5 million, expected in three years. Mr Branson put the revenue target at Rs 35,000 crore by 2010. Tata Teleservices has lagged competition in India’s growing, but fiercely fought, mobile phone market. It operates in the code division multiple access (CDMA) market, as opposed to the more popular global system for mobile communications (GSM) standard. The group, which has a pan-India-presence serving 22.5 million customers, had a 9.3% market share at the end of January, compared with rival Reliance, which had 17.5%. Under the deal, Tata Teleservices will pay a pre-agreed fee to Virgin for every user buying the youth-focused service. Both, however, refused to give details of the revenue-sharing agreement. Mr Branson said that Virgin would also look to enter into similar arrangements to cater to GSM users in India. “In another nine months, when the new GSM players start rolling out their services, we would look to offer similar services on GSM as well,” he said. Virgin will not be an MVNO (Mobile Virtual Network Operator) using TATA's infrastructure: MVNO is still not legal in India. Tata Teleservices managing director Anil Sardana countered complaints from some rivals that the deal amounted to Virgin’s being an MVNO. “This is not an MVNO agreement between Virgin and Tata Teleservices,” he asserted. “There is no airtime contract between us. Virgin Mobile is just another brand that the company would offer. It is us who will invest in infrastructure and get regulatory approvals and operate as a network service provider. Virgin, on its part, would just lend its brand and the value-added services (VAS) that come with it to us.” However, the Virgin brand is exclusive for Tata in the CDMA segment, he added. -
