  1. I have been on post paid right from my Usha days in 1999, except for a brief period with Essar as they then were. Have no regrets so far. have a RCom (original DAPO) and a BSNL connection. Just waiting for the 3G situation to stabilise before dumping the latter. Heard that Tata Docomo will also be offering 3G in UPE very soon (are on the Tata Docomo backbone). Also, they are offering a CUG + concessional tariff to IIT.

  2. Lucky you. As mentioned in another (not fully appropriate) thread TataSky HD is restricted to metros (and their environ) only. We upcountry yokels are deemed to be unfit for HD. I had also mentioned about the half-hourly hangs on the display/remote. dhiraj it was not just the Actve channels. This morning I found the system doing a full reload, took over five minutes. Obviously it found that there were too many bugs in the software. I checked on my second connection, it was functioning normally. Did not find the hanging problems after the 'self reboot'.

  3. @dhiraj: Not strictly a hang. The system does not respond to the keypad for a couple of minutes. Could be that my STB is a very early one, with an even slower processor.

Meerut is very close the Delhi, and by the looks of it you travel/commute between the two places. This is why CC gave you the work around. Installation is a childs play - I guess the same decoder card plugs in. I am sure you have seen ads for the HD box aplenty on the TV.

  4. Of late my Tata STB also tends to hang esp. on the hour and hald hour. Must be getting data updates on the programs schedule. After all it is a pea brain.

I am an original TataSky customer in Kanpur with a Mega Pack + two room. I want to upgrade one of the STBs to HD. Wrote to them 3 months ago. A call within three hours, essentially stating that we are not launching HD in Kanpur (I never thought satellite signals differed from town to town). Wrote again today, adding a line that I may move elsewhere in May when my subscription expires, if HD is not available. Response within one hour, essentially the same. Told the chap if you do not care about Tier II cities then why should we.

Moral: If you are in a non-metro city and want TataSky HD - forget it. All advertising notwithstanding.

However, I must add that service is excellent. Once I had LNB failure, and twice power adapter failures. In each case response time was under an hour.

  5. Neither has anything to lose. Nokia is in big trouble, and Microsoft Windoze is just zzz in the mobile market.

Nokia should be ready for bugs a plenty. Microsoft are still trying to fix the bugs in XP (Vista and 7 are only bug fixes with the temerity to charge users by calling them bug fixes). Even today you see about 15 fixes a month from Microsoft for the bugs.

I will hate to see a lovely hardware platform ruined, but then if someone is bent upon committing Harakiri!

  6. et me repeat. I had no problem in creating a .csv file. I could open in in Excel. When I tried to load it to Nokia it refused, even counted the number of entries correctly. When I looked at the two file I found the Blackberry file had far more records per line. I guess I could edit out some columns are then should be able to transfer.

funambol being Open Source is free not only to try but also to use. Having recently installed Linux (Ubuntu) is dual boot I am slowly getting to understand Open Source. I guess more than 99% of the stuff in Linux is free.

  7. I agree it may be too late. I start6ed with a Nokia in 1999. The had two (CDMA + GSM) my son and daughter also had Nokia.

At the moment I have a 6275 (on the way out in a day or two) and a 5230 which will also be dumped very soon, and my daughter has an E-series. My son has a Epic4 and daughter in law Galaxy 3. My son in law carries a BB. So we will be soon down to ONE. The only reason my daughter is on a Nokia is that her father-in-law's BB (official) developed a fault and Reliance did nothing for over a month. When they served a legal notice the phone was replace within a day!

  8. I will love to see Nokia go with the Open Source - Android. Nokia make superb hardware and when coupled to the leader it will potentially be a BB, iPhone killer.Wfter all we know that Linux is probably the most stable platform (sorry Bill Gates - this is the truth) and the underpinning of Android is Linux!

  9. When I moved from my Nokia6275 to BB 8330 using outlook express moving data into the BB was no sweat.

Following the AKay/MEID flap I decided that I need to get my 6275 operational again. There seems to be n decent way of moving data out of BB to another format.

I can read the IPD file using Amber. I can export a .csv file using Magicberry. The file can be opened in Outlook, but Nokia will not accept it.

My son moved from a htc Hero to an Epic 4 in a jiffy, using his Google Mail backup.

Any way out of my dilemma. I ended up using a backup from 6 months ago of my wife's Nokia 5230 and then editing manually.
