  1. I also held the view that a notebook gave you far more bang for the buck. However, if size is a criterion then ... Also, the apparent rarity of small (12-13") Notebooks at decent prices, without DVD's pushes you in that direction. I have an Acer 3801T bought last year and am quite happy with it. Only I had a battery change under warranty, so did a couple of colleagues who bought the same. My daughter-in-law had two battery changes within the one year. So I will be reluctant about Acer for the moment.

  2. I have also been with Reliance since its inception, and am happy with it. The bone of contention will be the handsets. I have a BB8330 (from Hitesh), but if they start locking up the services etc. on 'cloned' handsets then I may be forced to move. Incidentally, I saw far more reasonable prices of some BB Reliance handsets on futurebazaar.Cannot match what you get here but about 20% or so lower than the Reliance prices. Still no decent Android (apart from one obsolescent Samsung) on the Indian Market.

We have to see how the services of others pan out, esp. in 3G. One big issue will be the tariff and an all India footprint. I hear that Airtel, Vodafone and Idea are tying up for these.

Incidentally, I have been off the forum for too long so a silly question - what do *228 etc. enabled mean.

  3. I agree that the days of cloned handsets may be somewhat numbered. However, with junk handsets at a rip off price, we are left with no options. I think we will be forced to move off CDMA to GSM pronto. Thank God MNP is (almost) here.

One thing worth noting - many of the handsets may be originally locked and sold at a concessional price in the home market as part of a plan (say 3 years). So we are in a dark grey area to start with.

  4. I think there is another big question - touch or keypad.

Some people (yours truly included) are unhappy with Touch. At the moment the decision is obvious - Touch -> Android or (maybe) Apple, keypad -> Blackberry. There are signs of dual interfaces (e.g.BB Torch) coming in.

In the longer term touch is likely to be dominated by Android, which BB is an extremely mature and stable platform, and will continue, possibly with more dual interfaces.

Symbian, I am afraid, has fallen in the crack.
