Motorola Q to launch in India soon Samsung Blackjack might be the hottest Windows Mobile device in the US, but the Indian market is eagerly awaiting the launch of Motorola Q, according to our good buddy Aman Kapoor, principal with consulting/research group, Packetology. Motorola intends to launch both the CDMA and the GSM versions of the Q phone in India. Tata and Reliance Communications are the two carriers who are currently in negotiations with Motorola to get the device that is being personally touted by Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer. The CDMA-Q will be the first one to launch in India, and will be followed by the GSM version. If true, then this is good news for those who are awaiting the release of the GSM-Q. There have been some recent rumors that Moto may put GSM-Q on ice.

RCOM in talks with Accenture to float JV MUMBAI: Telecom operator Reliance Communications (RCOM) is in talks with IT services and consulting giant Accenture to float a joint venture to manage and operate the Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group’s IT infrastructure services and processes. The JV will be largely owned by RCOM and will have control over a business worth $1.5-2 billion, a person close to the negotiations said. “Talks have been on for nearly two months for the joint venture. The proposed JV will also have an exit clause giving RCOM the opportunity to buy out Accenture in the future,” said sources. ADAG’s IT team now employs about 600 people to cater to the IT needs of RCOM and other group companies such as Reliance Capital and Reliance Natural Resources. This task is expected to be done by the new JV, said sources. RCOM is also said to be in talks with Hewlett Packard (HP), Germany’s T-Systems and French IT consulting giant Capgemini. HP declined to comment while Accenture was unreachable for comment. An RCOM spokesperson said, “We do not comment on speculation.” Accenture, however, is learnt to be taking its time in responding to the RCOM offer because globally, it does not work on the JV model. Discussions with HP are in very early stages, sources added. Telecom operators such as Bharti Airtel and Idea Cellular have shed non-core functions such as IT and network management to multinational giants such as IBM and Nokia in order to focus on the main function of selling services. Accenture and HP, both globally renowned names in outsourcing, have not bagged any contract in the booming Indian telecom space. IBM is servicing Bharti Airtel as well as Idea Cellular in contracts worth over $1.2 billion and $600-800 million, respectively. While IT outsourcing refers to hiring an outside agency to provide IT services to a company, insourcing is the in-house management of technology. ADAG is well known for not outsourcing its call centres, IT or networks management requirements despite industry trends to the contrary. Bharti Airtel, Hutchison Essar and Idea have outsourced most of these functions to specialists. “Another model under consideration is hiving off the IT division and selling a minority stake to Accenture or any other interested party on the lines of the telecom tower business. The JV can then get business outside the ADA group too,” said industry sources. With RCOM looking at cashing in on its IT assets, it floated a proposal to outsource IT services nearly three-four months back. Some firms including Accenture, Hewlett Packard and Germany’s T-Systems expressed interest in the contract, valued at around $1.5 billion. Subsequently, some officials in RCOM felt that they should consider some other models. “As a result, the concept of JV was mooted where Accenture could give its services and expertise to RCOM’s manpower. It will give a steady revenue stream to the company’s JV partner and bring latest technological expertise to the ADA group,” people close to the talks said. Reliance Communication To Enter Gsm Services

Spice Telecom + Idea Cellular + Reliance Telecom 2 create sparks!! NEW DELHI: Spice Telecom, Idea Cellular and Reliance Telecom (the GSM arm of Reliance Communications) are in talks for forging an “operational alliance with a pan-India footprint”, according to MCorp global chairman B K Modi. “Discussions are on for an operational alliance with regard to network sharing, roaming, international arrangements and handset bundling,” Mr Modi told ET. “The talks are not related to any merger, but relate to a tie-up for operational requirements,” he added. Mr Modi, however, did not disclose the specifics of the proposed alliance. When contacted, Idea Cellular managing director Sanjeev Aga told ET that he was not aware of any such development. Reliance Telecom refused to comment on the issue. Meanwhile, in a related development, Spice Telecom on Wednesday got the Sebi nod for its upcoming initial public offer. Telecom Malaysia currently has a 49% stake in Spice, but this will fall to 39.2% after the mobile operator’s IPO. According to the latest figures from the Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI), the body representing all GSM operators, as of April-end, Spice had 2.8 million subscribers, while Idea Cellular had just under 15 million and Reliance Telecom under 5 million. Analysts, however, share the view that the operational alliance was a logical move as all three companies did not have an pan-India presence. Idea currently has operations in 11 circles—Maharashtra, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Delhi, Kerala, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh (West), Uttar Pradesh (east) and Rajasthan— Spice has operations in Punjab and Karnataka, while Reliance Telecom has GSM operations in eight telecom circles in the eastern part of the country. Reliance Telecom has GSM operations in Kolkata, Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal, Himachal Pradesh, Bihar, Orissa, Assam and the North East. This implies, if the operational tie-up were to take place, the three companies will have a presence in 19 of the 23 telecom circles in India. The four circles where none of these companies have a presence include Mumbai, Chennai, Tamil Nadu and Jammu & Kashmir. Source: http://economictimes.indiatimes.com/Spice_...how/2070474.cms -
Reliance Communications To Launch Wimax Services!
vmsanghrajka posted a topic in Reliance Communications
Reliance to Launch WiMax Services! Soon - likely next month (June), Reliance Communications (RCom) will launch its wireless broadband technology aka WiMax in Pune and Bangalore, says a Times News Network (TNN) report. The report further says that Reliance will extend its WiMax service to other cities, including Hyderabad, Chennai, Chandigarh, Delhi, and Mumbai, after taking stock of customer response in these two cities. Other major telecom operators such as Bharti Airtel, VSNL, and BSNL have tested WiMax, and are also mulling roll-out in the near future as per sources in-the-know. However, as of now, only Aircel Cellular has launched WiMax services for business customers in Chennai. Targeted at nearly 3 million wireless Internet users, the RCom WiMax service, the company believes, will give it a first-mover edge over other players in the industry. An industry expert reportedly said that unlike wireless fidelity or WiFi, where radio waves can cover up to 30 meters, WiMax services are accessible for over 10 miles, theoretically speaking at least. WiMax offers better mobility to users, without having to be connected by wires to service operators. “Unlike wireless fidelity (wi-fi), where radio waves can cover up to 30 meters, WiMax services are accessible for over 10 miles in theory. WiMax is offering better mobility to the users without being connected by a wire to a service operator. Indian wireless market, which is growing rapidly by 40%, is expected to react positively to the new technology,” said an industry expert. “RCOM can launch the unlicensed version of WiMax service anytime as it has completed all the tests. The initial launch will be in Pune and Bangalore and later move to other cities. BSNL is also looking to launch its WiMax service in Pune,” said a sources close to the development. But RCOM spokesperson refused to comment on the development. Source: http://www.techtree.com/India/News/RCom_to...-81255-613.html ---- Cool news!! I was waiting for this.. -
