not a single user has put up any review..
there are lots @ xda - need to be careful that one doesn't put the debug kernel in the Bootloader spot in ODIN
it's better to wait for a day or two to see other's experiences and then go for update

Gingerbread for Epic - 'EF02' leaked @ xda http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1128124 (it's a leak, not official)

What's the BEST custom ROM that's available now other than SRF .
Has anyone tried AnonymousROM v7
-
Latest Gingerbread update would be EF02 http://forum.androidcentral.com/sprint-epic-4g/86069-android-2-3-gingerbread-ef02-latest-build.html
-
All good Dev's @ xda leaving Epic, most of them moving on to Nexus S 4G ..... seems there is not much fun left in Epic
-
So, you need to update your signature now.......... & BTW on which ROM are you on?
on the new EE03 gingerbread ROM. No major issues with this other than GPS (in my case, haven't applied the GPS fix)
it's pretty cool, though is definitely slow. Front cam doesn't work in Gtalk Video. Definitely worth a try.
Will use this for a week to enjoy Gingerbread , and then revert to stock EC05 and will wait for the EE12 OTA.
-
flashed new Clockwork CWM 3.0.2.5 from stock EC05, and upgraded modem to EE03.... aall izz well
-
flashed AOSP 3 ROM today and applied the patch - it's pretty cool
-
Tried but its giving Errror & not able to update
Maybe you must have removed some bloatware
-
Great find +.
Has anyone tried out Gingerbread? CM does not officially support Epic which is pity but team at XDA have been working on an unofficial CM GB ROM.
Yeah, I've tried thw CM7 alpha 1 release which lavks support for camera, gps amd hardware acceleration.
But overall experience is too good, only thing that borhered me was the battery getting too hot while charging
-
Midnight 5.2 is quite stable, thanks to Bonsai 4.0.1 kernel. Everything works, including wired tether
-
flashed the Midnight 5.2 ROM today - pretty straight forward, no issues found. Till now I have tried the following ROM's
Bonsai 3 (EB13) and Bonsai 4 on EC05
ACS SRF 1.0.2 and SRF 1.1.0 (themed with Emotionless Beast) on EC05
Midnight 5.2 on EC05
CM 7 (Alpha 1) on EB13
haven't had any problems with any of these ROM's, though my favourite is SRF 1.1
-
rooting is straight fwd. download the clockwork mod rooting tool 2.5.5 from xda and just let it weave its magic. the process cant be any simpler. as for DK, he would urge me to burn EC05, but would never root !!!!
Had no issues rooting EC05 with CWM3 , only thing to remember is that once CWM3 completes FS conversion to EXT4
we need to immediately flash from revovery any of the latest ROMs which have kernels with EXT4 support.
I personally am on SRF 1.1 ROM themed with Emotionless Beast theme
Well, this is my personal experience - go for CWM3 only if you are sure , coz there are differing opinions on whether it is advisable to go for CWM3 on EC05
-
Trying Mystery's Emotionless Beast theme over Syndicate Frozen 1.1 ROM
Kinda different..... Only bug found is that chequered background in stock browser returned
-
Flashed the new Syndicate 1.1.0 ROM over stock EC05
No reboots or other issues found other than loss of wired tether, though wifi tether works fine.
Had to flash ROM twice to get it going, both times wiped cache/ data 3x
Take Nandroid backup prior to flashing ROM , as this wipes data
Here's what I did
1) ODIN'd back to DI18
2) OTA'd to EC05
3) Copied ACS Frozen 1.1.0 ROM 'zip' file to sdcard
4) rooted using CWM3, which on reboot to recovery converted FS to EXT4
5) after FS conversion wiped cache / data 3x from recovery and flashed SRF 1.1.0 ROM zip file
6) rebooted to CWM3 recovery, flashed cache / data again 3 times and flashed once more zip file of SRF ROM
-
Is it possible to root with CWM3 after updating to EC05 ? coz I'm not able to root with CWM3 from stock EC05 - once CWM 3 install completes and FS conversion completes on reboot, my phone does not boot properly next time and just vibrates with blank screen. So I had to ODIN back to DI18, update to EC05 and root with CWM 2.5.5, which is OK
Earlier when on EB13 I could do the following succesfully
1)install CWM 3.0.6
2)install dual FS kernel on reboot to recovery
3) install deodexed EB13 ROM
4) install multiple custom ROMs like ACS Frozen 1.0.2, Bonsai 3 etc
5)ODIN just the EC05 modem
But now from stock EC05 not able to boot into android after installing CWM3 - when I try to install the Bonsai 4 zip after CWM 3 , it throws error 'get prop.id'
-
Done it this way only. Worked well for a couple of days... not any longer
ODIN to DI18 and flash the EC05 'update.zip' that u can get from xda.
This has worked perfect for me. Also I have rooted using CWM 2.5.5 post update.
-
updated modem to EC05 via ODIN, also flashed Bonsai 4 ROM. Everything OK as of now.
-
Epic Android 2.3 Gingerbread alpha release is available thro Cyanogenmod. its based on a recoded Eb13 radio.
the best yet .. though the Camera / GPS does not work as of now .
Still alpha .. just installed the ROM (and removed it coz Cam is kinda very important for me )
cheers
karki
Also phone gets too hot while charging.
-
can you can share usb driver for pal pixi plus?
if u r referring to the usbnet driver , try this link http://gitorious.org/webos-internals/usbnet-pre/blobs/raw/master/windows/usbnet-pre.inf
-
yes u can go for CWM3.0.5/6
No need.. just flashed again Syndicate ROM , and everything is OK now, except absence of wired tether
-
I went to Cyanogenmod 7 Alpha from ACS Frozen 1.0.1.
After trying CM 7 for some time I went back to ACS Frozen 1.0.1 by restoring earlier backup on ACS.
But now I have lost root and don't have su.
Earlier I had rooted stock DI18 using OneClick 2.5 CWM, and after applying EB13 update.zip had rooted again using CWM 3.0.6. After converting to ext4 filesystems and flashing dual fs kernel, I had succesfully flashed ACS Frozen 1.0.1 with no issues.
Only on reverting back from CM7 I have lost root. So to regain 'su privvileges' can I do CWM 3.0.6 OneClickRoot again ?
-
I have switched to ACS Syndicate ROM Frozen 1.0.1 since yesterday, it's faster than Bonsai. No issues noticed till now, except that I have lost wired tether, though wireless tether works fine. GPS too locks pretty fast.
Also there is no TouchWiz, and there are no default wallpapers. Don't know whether there's any way to get default wallpapers.
CM7 alpha has been released for Epic. Will give it a try when a more stable release comes, coz Alpha release has issues with GPS and bluetooth.

Ok, ODIN'd to EF02 and rooted with CWM purple 3.1.0.1.
Definitely it's slow coming from EXT4, as prior to this I was on SFR 1.1.1/EXT4/CWM3.0.2.5. Otherwise everything seems ok, including GPS
can't fix rotation lag as the old fix doesn't work
better option I hear is to ODIN using the EF02 Plus tar
haven't yet tried the EF10 modem
And Oh YEAH GTalk Video works with front facing camera
