3. Its All New Airtel Now

The TV commercial is good, but what do they really want to convey?
4. New Delhi: In a swift action against new telecom players who were given licences in 2008, telecom regulator TRAI today asked government to cancel 62 licences given to five companies including Etisalat (Swan), Uninor and Videocon. As per the TRAI report, cancellation has been sought for licence in 15 circles given to Etisalat, a company earlier known as Swan that CAG had dubbed as a front company of Anil Ambani group. Besides, licences to Unitech group's Uninor in eight circles, 10 to Sistema-Shyam, a joint venture between Russia's Sistema and India's Shyam group, 10 to Videocon, which Venugopal Dhoot-led group acquired from Mahendra Nahta's Datacom, and 19 of Loop. As per licencing conditions, the licencees were required to roll out the services in 90% of service areas in metros and 10% in district headquarters within 12 months of the date of award of licences. The action comes amid the Comptroller and Auditor General slamming the Telecom Ministry for irregularity and impropriety in giving licences to new players in 2008, causing a loss of a whopping Rs. 1.76 lakh crore to the exchequer. According to the report of the Comptroller and Auditor General, though these new operators obtained the initial 4.4 Mhz spectrum in 81 service areas during the period April 2008 to January 2009, none of them had rolled out their services as per the provision of Unified Access Licences in any service area till December 31. The CAG report also raises questions on 85 of the 122 licenses that were given out, saying either the documents given were not proper or the information provided could not be verified. This action by TRAI also coincides with the Supreme Court hearing into the allocation of 2G spectrum in 2008 at 2001 prices. 5. Its All New Airtel Now

I would say it is indeed good. The swoosh is really good.

And as kesav has very rightly pointed out, change in logo should be accompanied by a change in attitude as well. Hope it happens and we see good offers from Airtel, so that we fence-sitters of RCOM can jump over to the newest No.1 maybe.
6. Gadgets Of Our World

@ rajan, Awesome new discoveries, keep it up...
7. Obviously both the caller and the called party both should have 3G service active in their mobiles. Moreover the network also offer 3G services, otherwise it is not possible for video calling to happen. Data services at 3G high speeds - the opposite party does not need to also have 3G, because only one party will use the data service.
8. RIMweb compatibility with Opera Mini

Yes, I have received the email and also accepted the password reset. But even I have enabled the number of posts from the default 20 to 40, why do I see only 5 in mobile skin? Why not all the 20 or 40? I have not checked from my mobile as yet because the password was not reset by me till now. I will do it later and then re-post here my experience. Please wait for my next post here.
9. RIMweb compatibility with Opera Mini

13. Vote For Narayanan Krishnan

Catch: He brings hot meals to India's homeless – so please vote for him New Delhi: If you had not heard of Narayanan Krishnan, as I had not, it is a collective failure. This is one of the most incredible stories of personal commitment. Narayanan Krishnan, all of 29 years old now, does what he was professionally trained to do as a chef. Feed people. Only Krishnan does not do this in the swanky confines of a 5-star hotel. Every day, he wakes up at 4 am, cooks a simple hot meal and then, along with his team, loads it in a van and travels about 200 km feeding the homeless in Madurai, Tamil Nadu. Krishnan feeds, often with his hands, almost 400 destitute people every day. And for those who need it, he provides a free haircut too. According to CNN, eight years ago, this award-winning chef with a five-star hotel chain was all set to go to Switzerland for a high-profile posting. On a visit to a Madurai temple, he came across a homeless, old man eating his own human waste. That stark sight changed Krishnan's life. Much to the dismay of his parents, CNN says, Krishnan abandoned his career plans and decided to spend his life and his professional training in looking after those who could not care for themselves. He has provided more than 1.2 million hot meals through his nonprofit organisation Akshaya Trust, and now hopes to extend this to shelter for the homeless too. Krishnan is the only Indian in a list of 10 heroes that CNN has picked worldwide to honour. One of them will be chosen CNN Hero of the Year, selected by the public through an online poll. If many Indians get together to vote for this inspiring man, he can win by a long mile. If Krishnan wins he will get $100,000 in addition to the $25,000 that he gets for being shortlisted for the Top 10. Akshaya Trust needs all the monetary support it can get to build on Krishnan's dream. Let's help him get there. Vote for Krishnan here. (http://heroes.cnn.com/vote.aspx)The poll continues through November 18 at 6 a.m. ET. We are crawling the Web for more great videos, tweets pictures, blogs and people that just must be showcased. If you spot some that make you stop and stare, See here We'll be happy to credit it to your spidery efforts on the WWW. Reason for Edit: Font size reduced

16. RIMweb compatibility with Opera Mini

@ Arun, By using the Mobile View setting, Opera Mini cannot be forced to use the mobile skin of RW, AFAIK. Correct me if wrong. EDIT: This has been replied in the previous post, so please ignore my post. If necessary, please delete.
17. RIMweb compatibility with Opera Mini

@ Arun, Did you reply using the Mobile skin? Try to reply with the CleanCut skin.I am asking you to do this because the add reply and the fast reply options are shown even in CleanCut skin. Try it out. One more problem I have come across some days back - The RSS feeds button does not show in my Opera Mini at all. It is on the top right hand corner when viewed from my laptop or desktop. But when I view it through Opera Mini, I can only see the Forum Guidelines and the View New Content links.
18. RIMweb compatibility with Opera Mini

@ Arun, 1. Mobile View is activated ever since I started using Opera Mini - right from my 6265 days to my current Palm Treo 800W. 2. I am able to view only 5 posts on Opera Mini and not 15 posts with all settings as advised by you. 3. I am not using Mobile skin as I do not like to toggle the skin every time I change my devices...And in CleanCut skin which I have enabled, I get the add reply and the fast reply options, but then replying is not possible. It is somewhat similar to what sougata experiences except that I did not face the log-in and log-out problem so far. In fact I have stopped trying it out because replying is not smooth and refined from a mobile using CleanCut skin or the IP.Board skin. @ sougata, How to take screenshots on a WM?
19. Kanagadeepan for the link, but there also I have posted something on similar lines. In any case, already Airtel and Voda have got the 3G licence for TN, only Idea is left out. So it does not matter for us much unless some of us TN users use Idea also. And I had checked with RCOM also, thats why RCOM will have to buy out some other operator like maybe Aircel to enlarge their 3G footprint across S India. But then, Aircel in S India is a very big entity and RCOM will not be able to buy them out without bending the rules once again. In case RCOM does pull it off, they will gain the 900Mhz band spectrum of Aircel which is very, very valuable because it required fewer towers than 1800Mhz that RCOM has currently. The last hitch in the probable buyout was that Aircel reports the subscriber numbers as extremely high and hence their valuations are too, too high. RCOM is the only fully 100% Indian owned company currently (I hope I am not wrong - as all other operators have some foreign funding or the other) And if at all your dream does become a reality, how will they account for voice calls? Roaming will be applicable or not? And how would they be able to give only data roaming? The situation is not impossible but there are many imponderables that have to be ironed out fully.... So it will be sometime before this dream becomes a reality. Ofcourse if the GSM gangsters can pull off a coup by aligning for covering the entire country, then faster action will have to be taken necessarily by the rest of the operators (read RCOM, DoCoMo and Aircel) or they will be left way, way behind in the 3G numbers game.. @kshah, Sad that your city is not covered as yet by DoCoMo, was expecting your reviews on the 3G services there. Anyway, we will have Kunal coming in with his reviews.
20. I presume it is because they also can say BBM - Bharat Berry Messenger instead of the original BBM apart from the Blackberry versus the Bharat Berry... And plagiarism is something we are number one in the world (maybe)
21. Vote For Best OS

My vote goes to W7 - the boot time is considerably faster than with XP. I have never tried out the geeky Linux series.... Not that I am not inclined to do it, but I do not have the patience and the time and energy for trying out vague things....
22. RIMweb compatibility with Opera Mini

sougata for your replies. Another thing you have omitted is that in IE mobile, you consume a lot of MBs as compared to OM. And now with the data plans being chargeable, every MB counts fully.

And by OM I mean Opera Mini whereas you have I think inadvertently mentioned Opera Mobile. I hope you also meant Opera Mini. I am not aware of Opera Mobile.

Yes one more thing I noticed while the page is loading and you try to scroll down, it ends abruptly and thus many areas of the page show as blank. You must wait for the entire page to finish loading. And you must set the image quality a notch down - I changed it from high quality to medium quality. When you have high quality images set, you also consume a lot of MBs which you already know, but also pages load very late.
23. RIMweb compatibility with Opera Mini

@Rajan, Which OM version you are using to add replies from your mobile? And which skin you have used - is it IP.Board or Clean Cut or IP.Board Mobile? @sougata, Do you face any problems with replies on your OM?
24. RIMweb compatibility with Opera Mini

Arun for the clarifications. The problem with Mobile skin is that all my devices - laptop or desktop also show the same skin when I access RW from them. Is it possible that a device should have a lock for a particular skin? Or any other way out for that? Further when using mobile skin and accessing RW from my mobile, I do not see all the posts in a topic. But when I access RW from the desktop or laptop, I see all the posts in the topic. And one more thing - fast reply or add reply from the mobile is not as refined as from a laptop or desktop. Maybe this is a glitch we have since we upgraded from IP.Board 2 to IP.Board 3 +. I remember I used to add or fast reply from my mobile very effortlessly.
