  1. Inspiron 1525 Laptop Sim Slot

^^^ If some facility is present and which is not provisioned for use in India, how will the technical people help you out? You can only seek some hacker's help to get it running. Not only DELL, even Nokia does not help if such facilities are locked. And the CC execs cannot go out of the way to help you out as their jobs will be at stake. So even if they know the way out, there will be no illumination from their side.

  3. Airtel's New "fair Usage Policy" Policy

@ srk,I meant the mobile fair usage policy. Rcom is the pioneer in this afaik. Correct me if i am wrong....
  4. Intex Launches new cheap CDMA handset

WAP browser and PC Sync is available with this mobile, also has 1000 contacts and SMS storage facility. No camera, which is actually good. However, the price could have been lower. And as Setu Shah says, at that price, people can as well trust LG for atleast their legendary service backup.
  5. The above merger has nothing to do with RCOM, please move this topic to the appropriate place.
  6. Is this topic for RCOM GSM test signals or for all operators test signals? If the latter, then the topic title may please be changed.
  7. ^^^ I did not get what is De Javu all about. And what is the best feature in that which no other company is offering in GSM?
  8. ^^^ It is very obvious that both TATA and RCOM are taking a calculated risk by introducing 3G EVDO thro' data cards. And as for the usage of 3G high end mobiles, unless and until they get the 3G licences, they cannot introduce it for these high end handsets. Another question that arises is how long can both these operators continue EVDO services on data cards? The GSM lobby will definitely introduce a spanner in the works very soon. And then all the poor people who bought such 3G data cards will be forced to use it as a paper weight. I think our country does not want 3G at all, maybe we will wait for 4G or 5G or xG as and when it comes. The word 3G only means delay, delay and more delays in India's context. Forget about the PSCs like BSNL/MTNL....
  9. Strange Problem In Windows Xp

^^^ It would be better if folks here use the exponent sign ^^^ (3 times) when quoting the person just before them. It is not necessary to quote the previous person's post in full. When you want to quote someone who is maybe 2 or more posts before you, then it adds clarity, but for the immediate post which is before yours, it is suggested to use 3 exponent signs (^^^) I notice from one of your posts today that you have caught on with ^^^ usage. Good.... I Hope Mods/Admins can make this a rule. It may be there already, I haven't read it recently.
  10. Nokia 8208 Cdma : Coming Soon

^^^ No it means unlocked handset. You can use it for any provider. This is similar to the GSM handsets available all over wherein you just have to insert any SIM of your choice. In non SIM phones, maybe you could go to the service provider and get it activated. Not too sure, though.
  11. Aircel Super Plan

AFAIK, Aircel CC says 5000 local SMS only and not national SMS. maybe for existing users, they will give 5000 national SMS, but for new users, they will give only 5k local sms. And you can always add a National SMS pack for Rs 50 which will give 5000 national SMS's and yet retain the 5000 local SMS's also. Can other Aircel users check with CC and confirm?
  12. ^^^ What about the data speeds? Is GSM equally faster? I am only asking about BB services.
  13. Finally KUMBHAKARNA (RCOM) appears to be getting up after an endless sleep. Hope he (rcom) does not fall asleep again.
  14. Aircel Super Plan

^^^ Obviously it will crash now!!!! It is the season for crashes!!!! Everything will crash!!! Hopefully buildings built by builders will not, ha ha ha
  15. 500 Min R2r Free Every Month....

^^^ ooops, even I missed that.
  16. 500 Min R2r Free Every Month....

^^^ I think CC is wrong, it should be 500 mins local and STD, try again with another CCE. With RCOM, one has to keep trying with CCe atleast 5 to 6 times and you will get different results each and every time. If you recharge with 4444, then you get 500 minutes local and STD R2R every month for lifetime. Anyway, I think pkdaga will be able to re-confirm. @mods, there is a similar topic going on elsewhere, please merge this topic with that.
  17. 500 Min R2r Free Every Month....

^^^ You are bang on the dot!!!! RCOM very cleverly has made this calculations in such a way that the normal average user will not understand it. This is as usual in RCOM. But then one spends Rs 800 per month to get 500 minutes free and also all local calls at 50ps and all STD and roaming calls at 1 buck for LT. How long this call charges remain is a debatable point. In TN, Aircel has started offering 600 free minutes to mobiles plus 5000 local/national SMS, plus all LL and STD calls at 1 buck for a monthly rental of Rs 225 only. (See the topic posted elsewhere on this forum) RCOM does not mention anywhere that the call charges will vary (read - go lower) as per the market trends. And knowing RCOM, it is debatable if they will offer lower rates in future if the tariffs fall. Anyway, good calculations, keep it up.... Thanks for enlightening the readers here.....
  18. ^^^ Thanks for the lovely tones/tunes, keep posting...
  19. Non SMS Stuff

Friends keep sending me these good stories, so I hope you don't mind me passing them along to you........... Sack Lunches I put my carry-on in the luggage compartment and sat down in my assigned seat. It was going to be a long flight. 'I'm glad I have a good book to read and perhaps I will get a short nap,' I thought. Just before take-off, a line of soldiers came down the aisle and filled all the vacant seats, totally surrounding me. I decided to start a conversation. 'Where are you headed?' I asked the soldier seated nearest to me. 'Petawawa. We'll be there for two weeks for special training, and then we're being deployed to Afghanistan. After flying for about an hour, an announcement was made that sack lunches were available for five dollars. It would be several hours before we reached the east, and I quickly decided a lunch would help pass the time.... As I reached for my wallet, I overheard soldier ask his buddy if he planned to buy lunch. 'No, that seems like a lot of money for just a sack lunch. Probably wouldn't be worth five bucks. I'll wait till we get to base ' His friend agreed. I looked around at the other soldiers. None were buying lunch. I walked to the back of the plane and handed the flight attendant a fifty dollar bill. 'Take a lunch to all those soldiers.' She grabbed my arms and squeezed tightly. Her eyes wet with tears, she thanked me. 'My son was a soldier in Iraq ; it's almost like you are doing it for him.' Picking up ten sacks, she headed up the aisle to where the soldiers were seated. She stopped at my seat and asked, 'Which do you like best - beef or chicken?' 'Chicken,' I replied, wondering why she asked. She turned and went to the front of plane, returning a minute later with a dinner plate from first class. 'This is yours with thanks.' After we finished eating, I went again to the back of the plane, heading for the rest room. A man stopped me. 'I saw what you did. I want to be part of it. Here, take this.' He handed me twenty-five dollars.. Soon after I returned to my seat, I saw the Aircraft Pilot coming down the aisle, looking at the aisle numbers as he walked, I hoped he was not looking for me, but noticed he was looking at the numbers only on my side of the plane.. When he got to my row he stopped, smiled, held out his hand, an said, 'I want to shake your hand.' Quickly unfastening my seatbelt I stood and took the Captain's hand. With a booming voice he said, 'I was a soldier and I was a military pilot. Once, someone bought me a lunch. It was an act of kindness I never forgot.' I was embarrassed when applause was heard from all of the passengers. Later I walked to the front of the plane so I could stretch my legs. A man who was seated about six rows in front of me reached out his hand, wanting to shake mine. He left another twenty-five dollars in my palm. When we landed I gathered my belongings and started to deplane. Waiting just inside the airplane door was a man who stopped me, put something in my shirt pocket, turned, and walked away without saying a word. Another twenty-five dollars! Upon entering the terminal, I saw the soldiers gathering for their trip to the base. I walked over to them and handed them seventy-five dollars. 'It will take you some time to reach the base. It will be about time for a sandwich. God Bless You.' Ten young men left that flight feeling the love and respect of their fellow travelers. As I walked briskly to my car, I whispered a prayer for their safe return. These soldiers were giving their all for our country. I could only give them a couple of meals. It seemed so little... A veteran is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to his country for an amount of 'up to and including my life.' That is Honor, and there are way too many people who no longer understand it. May God give you the strength and courage to pass this along to everyone on your email buddy list.... I just did that and it feels GOOD!!!

^^^ The same way you would have done it on your computer. Click on the RSS icon (which is available at the bottom left side or the top left side - usually they are bright orange in colour) and you will get a "Subscribe" option screen next. Click on subscribe and you are done. I am always logged in, so I use the option stated in my above post.
  21. Aircel Super Plan

Good Plan for the average student user who use it mostly for peer calling and SMS'ing. And look what RCOM has done to DAPO - limited it to 3000 per month. Are they giving some charity? Not to speak about the lousy services on the SMS front - lost messages, delayed messages, only 160 character SMS's and yet they deem it necessary to max it to 3000????
  22. 500 Min R2r Free Every Month....

^^^ It is a onetime payment valid for 1 year or LT.... @ashok, R2R includes onnet FWPS/LLs also or only mobiles? What about RGSM?
  23. ^^^ One has already opened some 4 to 5 months back at R K Salai, Chennai. They have good collection of all Apple products, but they are ridiculously priced for other electronic gadgets like pendrives, ext hard disks, etc. A 4GB pendrive was marked something around 2.2.k, whereas it is available everywhere for around 700 to 800 bucks. EHDs were also expensive at around Rs 8k for a 160GB/250GB. It is available at sub 4k elsewhere...Check prices before you buy.
  24. Lets Ask Arun

^^^ I do not think it is possible, however let other techies reply. Even i want a solution. What I do is, I click on the topic interesting to me, read it and then click "View New Posts" at the top. But this work only if you are logged in. You can also subscribe to RSS feeds from your 6265 mobile through Opera Mini. I have been using it for quite some time now. The RSS feeds are a bit late always and the "View New Posts" link is fastest.
  25. Congrats, GoI. Great move, GoI. Great and Superb news. So we will enjoy 3G maybe in 2012 or 2020 when the world would have moved to 6G or maybe 10G. Till then we all can enjoy EDGE/ GPRS etc from the existing operators. It may be plausible that the GoI has developed cold feet after halving the estimates from 40k crores to 20k crores for 3G licences and hence they do not want to start now. One more hing I fail to understand, if TATA is able to brazenly introduce 3G / HSIA by way of Photon, what is RCOM doing? Sleeping or scared of introducing it?
