  1. @hari s mahesh,

    I am currently using Airtel 4mbps plan, speeds are constant and good throughout. Plus I get Rs 1000 talk time for local calls.

    I was using BSNL for more than 5 years with the same 4mbps speeds but unfortunately for about 6 to 8 months, their speeds were very poor and there was no response at all to my several complaints. When I gave my termination letter, there was no call also from them regarding retention. Such is their attitude to customers. I am very happy currently with Airtel.

    In between like you, I also asked RM about the various options available. I specifically asked him about YOU as this seemed to be very cost effective, provided the speeds were constant. I called the YOU sales person and he almost conned me into going for a connection. I asked him to provide me some references and he backed out. So, obviously, their services were not good and I opted out and then called Reliance BB sales person.

    He came and took my application with the entire proofs, my advance cheque etc. For almost one month, there was no response at all. Finally I called up from a different number and the sales person told me that they have some cable problems in my area and are unable to provide the connection. After a week, they returned my application with all the proofs and the unbanked cheque also.

    Finally I had to opt for Airtel. In case of any complaints, there is instant followup from their service engineers who come with Apple iPhone and check at my place and do any tinkering if necessary. They also call me up atleast 4 to 5 times just to check if I am satisfied with the resolution provided. All these 10-12 years I have been with RCOM, they have never ever exhibited such customer service. Airtel's complaints system is really professional. RCOM has a hell lot to learn from Airtel. And the customer service execs do not mislead us (like RCOM's nincompoops) when we complain. If we say the speeds are poor, they do not ask for which laptop or computer we are using, but they send their service engineers to check and do the needful immediately. They even come at 8PM or 9PM to check on our complaints. This is what has set Airtel apart from RCOM.

    I always used to beleive Airtel was Airhell, but in the last 3 months, my entire viewpoint has changed. RCOM had only economical services but very, very, very poor customer service. This is where they have lost out. Probably they cannot afford to have such service engineers with the kind of tariffs they were charging all along. Now, they have also started charging as high as the GSM gangsters are doing. Hopefully, RCOM will improve.

    Coming back to your problem, it would be better for you to wait it out and see if Airtel will provide you services. Till then, you can try out anyone from the available basket.

  2. I have used Uniconnect for 18 days while I was in Europe last year. The service was very good, the cost very low. I used it only for incoming calls and for outgoing I used Matrix and when I got the bill, my wallet burst - around 25k. Since Matrix had already taken my credit card authorisation, there was nothing else to be done. Uniconnect was a prepaid one with full incoming free across Europe and UK. Matrix had incoming free only in UK, whereas Europe incoming was chargeable.

    This year again I used Uniconnect and Clay when I went to Malaysia and Singapore. The same story repeated - Uniconnect this time was postpaid with full incoming free across Malaysia and Singapore, the bill was a super measly Rs 20 only.... Yes, you read it right - only twenty rupees and that too for calling my Clay number once in Singapore. Clay was a super disaster like Matrix - they charged me rental plus access fees for free 30 minute per day calling to India (then how they call it free) and the total bills were for around Rs 10k. I contested the rentals and access fees and they waived the rentals for about 2k and I eventually paid up Rs 8k in all.

    These are my experiences. For me, Uniconnect was very good with superb services. No call drops anywhere. Only thing they did not provide was GPRS/3G facility which they claimed will cost a bomb and hence they refrained from providing.

    My sister used Matrix when she travelled to US for 20+ days, again pretty same disaster story - she was charged ard Rs 22k. She did not contest and she paid up, swearing never ever to touch Matrix again. She went this month to Thailand and she bought a local SIM there.

    Travellers/readers here may just read the above for guidance and information. They are free to take any provider. What may be food for me may be poison for someone else. Matrix and Clay may have been very bad for me, but for others, it may have been very good. Similarly Uniconnect also.

    BTW, the website address for Uniconnect is Uniconnect.in.

  3. In my Photon, this happens regularly whether I am at Home, Office or anywhere else. It happens even with my SE WT19i and also HTC Desire. I think this has something to do with all Androids only. It does not happen across any other make or model of phone if they aren't Androids. Not too sure about BB, Win Mobiles, iPhones.... My iPadmini works flawlessly even when connected to a power outlet.

  4. I found this interesting!

    When GOD solves your problems, you have faith in HIS abilities; when
    GOD doesn't solve your problems HE has faith in your abilities.

    God's accuracy may be observed in the hatching of eggs. . . . .
    -the eggs of the potato bug hatch in 7 days;
    -those of the canary in 14 days;
    -those of the barnyard hen in 21 days;
    -The eggs of ducks and geese hatch in 28 days;
    -those of the mallard in 35 days;
    -The eggs of the parrot and the ostrich hatch in 42 days.
    (Notice, they are all divisible by seven, number of days in a week!).

    And for Humans 40 weeks is the average pregnancy period.

    God's wisdom is seen in the making of an elephant. The four legs of this great beast all bend forward in the same direction. No other quadruped is so made. God planned that this animal would have a huge body, too large to live on two legs. For this reason He gave it four fulcrums so that it can rise from the ground easily.

    The horse rises from the ground on its two front legs first. A cow rises from the ground with its two hind legs first. How wise the Lord is in all His works of creation!

    God's wisdom is revealed in His arrangement of sections and segments, as well as in the number of grains.

    -Each watermelon has an even number of stripes on the rind.
    -Each orange has an even number of segments.
    -Each ear of corn has an even number of rows.
    -Each stalk of wheat has an even number of grains.
    -Every bunch of bananas has on its lowest row an even number of bananas, and each row decreases by one, so that one row has an even number and the next row an odd number.

    -The waves of the sea roll in on shore twenty-six to the minute in all kinds of weather.
    -All grains are found in even numbers on the stalks, and the Lord specified thirty fold, sixty fold, and a hundred fold all even numbers.

    God has caused the flowers to blossom at certain specified times during the day. Linnaeus, the great botanist, once said that if he had a conservatory containing the right kind of soil, moisture and temperature, he could tell the time of day or night by the flowers that were open and those that were closed!

    The lives of each of you may be ordered by the Lord in a beautiful way for His glory, if you will only entrust Him with your life. If you try to regulate your own life, it will only be a mess and a failure. Only God, who made your brain and heart, can successfully guide them to a profitable end.

    I HOPE YOU FIND THIS AS FASCINATING AS I DID.

    May God Bless You In Ways You Never Even Dreamed.
    I didn't think twice about forwarding this one.

  5. I have been using Reliance Global call sine the last one year. It can be used from any Reliance number across India, I have about 10 RCOM connections across my home and office and anyone can use this. Even my relatives across India can use this if I give them the registered mobile number and the PIN. You can use any Relaince number from anywhere in India to call abroad. It is better than paying rental of Rs. 90 every month IMHO. Only the service tax element is a burden, which in rental of Rs 90 also, you will be paying anyway and that too every month. Plus you will be paying ST on the call rates too as it will be billed to your account. Hope you have taken that into account.The minimum recharge amount is Rs 100 and not Rs 250 as per your post.Check the site again. Only the first time you have to activate with rs 250 for which you get 50 minutes of calling free also.

    Check other operators' offerings also, I think Voda and Airtel are giving good offers on ISD.

    My $0.02. :hypocrite:

  6. With the changes in the 74 Master plan across circles (not sure about RoI, but in Chennai/TN its changed twice in the last month) it would be wiser for people on RC74 to recharge if its available right now. Because with RCOM, you can never trust them to continue the plans forever. You can afford to forgo 1 or 2 or even 3 months. AFAIK, if you recharge today, your validity will be 6 months from today.

    I do not have this RC74 plan, but maybe its possible to recharge before the expiry of validity of this plan.

    Try it, if its possible and enjoy for atleast the next 3 or 4 or 5 or 6 months. At the most, you will lose Rs 74 only. Maybe if RCOM does not activate this plan, you may get a refund or atleast main balance. Give it a try.

    EDIT: Just checked RCOMs website, this RC74 voucher is available for recharge for Chennai/TN still. No idea about RoI.

  7. My experience with RCDMA over the last 6 to 8 months is that when my usage exceeds 500 MB in a billing cycle, the EVDO speeds automatically comes to a crawling 0.1Mbps. On complaining, the nincompoopish CC says that your EVDO is not active and they take a request and which takes 5 days to activate EVDO. After a week, there is a call from Mumbai saying your EVDO is now active, please switch off and switch on your handset after 10 minutes and you will get good speeds. This will work for the next 2 to 3 days during which, amazed by the good EVDO speeds (actually better than 0.1Mbps), you will have used another 300 to 500 MBs and once again the same rigmarole will start all over again - your EVDO is not active, complaint registered and after a week or so, EVDO gets activated, you use up a bit and again the same scenario starts again. Sickening to say the least.

    It is a deliberate ploy by RCOM to limit EVDO usage for people on the unltd plan. Hence I downgraded my plan to 1GB this month, saving Rs 506 per month. To hell with RCOM if they do not want the extra income. The CC says that the unltd plan is now available if I want to take it. I am sick of their attitude, so I have not taken the bait.

    On a serious note, I am seriously thinking of switching to AirHell. Atleast their 3G speeds are good in Chennai. Fothe same amount that I spent with RCOM, I can live peacefully with AirHell 3G with almost the same voice, roaming and SMS tariffs as RCOM and a far superior and responsive CC. maybe I should have MNP'd earlier itself. Still no regrets. Better late than never.

    Just my $0.02.

  8. This plan is no more avail in tn or chennai circle as per reliance web in chennai w.e.f 25th december. Reliance had gone for tarrif revision from that day on.

    So is change in gsm too rs.198 earlier had 1.20 lakh r to r and 42k r to o secs and 100 l/n sms. Now w.e.f 25th dec only 48k to any local secs

    There is clarity on unused secs carry forward

    As stated plan is no more avail in th/chennai also the website is not updated though it been over 7 days since changed. Too bad. Kindly chk b4 u rechrge

    What is the clarity on unused secs carry forward - is it available for carry forward like earlier, or not available?

    Website seems to be updated with the new tariffs when I tried through Rcom's online recharge site.

    I was checking the website,

    Even the revised call tariff is Rs0.75 for local call now :(

    Who is going to take new connections now?

    They want all customers to use some rate cutter or the other. This seems normal for all operators. Actually base tariffs are always high.

  9. Now distinction for mobile calls and landline calls tariffs also. Earlier LL calls used to be at 0.30ps pm, now it is 90 ps per mt. If RCOM charges are a bomb, why remain with their lousy 3rd rate CC, nincompoopish attitude for each and every query, and very horrible GSM network services (have been suffering call drops and very poor voice clarity since the last month, but was continuing only for the good tariffs, another interesting thing is RCOM used to SMS us that 10 minutes for free local calls are credited due to faulty network issues, but in reality no such thing was there - they were only cheating us royally).

    Might as well shift to Airtel or Vodafone. With the same tariffs and loads of offers on Airtel prepaids, RCOM is screwing itself badly. Seems they have not learnt anything from the MNP chapter at all. To Hell (AirHell) with RCOM now. Am moving all my RGSM to AirHell by this month end. As for my RCDMA, mobile will remain as it is my primary number for the last 12 years and my 2 FWPs cannot be MNP'd as yet.

  10. :previous:
    Left YOU Broadband 12mbps/25GB plan because it rarely delivered that speed. Never consistent. Download speed was around 1-2 mbps most of the time. Even normal resolution YOUTube videos used to buffer. Used it for 3 months, lodged many complaints but there was no improvement whatsoever. However your mileage may vary as i have heard that in other areas of Mumbai, some users were happy with this plan of YOU.
    Don't know much about Chennai ISP options. May be if Reliance Broadband is available in your area, their new Thunder Unlimited 4mbps plan has become quite a hit at Rs 1,099 >> http://www.rcom.co.in/Rcom/personal/internet/wired_postpaidplans.html

    Have finally decided to go with RCOM's BB - the sales person told me to go for a 2mbps unltd plan initially for 1 month and then switch to 4mbps unltd.

    Now I need to buy a wifi router (without modem - no idea why) Any suggestions and the likely setback? The sales guy asked me to get Belkin or Netgear, he was saying it will cost ard 2.5k, he did not know the model numbers also. What type of wifi router will work with RCOM BB? What is the difference between 150 mbps and 300mpbs routers? My flat is ard 2000 sq ft, should I go for 150 or 300 mbps? Pls also give me the model numbers and the links for online buying, if possible.

  11. Dr. Marc Faber, the investment guru, concluded his monthly bulletin with the following comments! :

    Dr. Marc Faber tells it how it is
    "The federal government is sending each of us a $600 rebate. If we spend that money at Wal-Mart, the money goes to China . If we spend it on gasoline it goes to the Arabs. If we buy a computer, it will go to India . If we purchase fruits and vegetables it will go to Mexico , Honduras and Guatemala . If we purchase a good car, it will go to Germany and Japan . If we purchase useless crap, it will go to Taiwan . In short, none of it will help the American economy.
    The only way to keep that money here at home is to spend it on prostitutes and beer, since these are the only products still produced in the US .
    I've been doing my part....."
